The seeds were sown way back in 1997. Once the Divine wills, no time is wasted in getting started. Things fell into place and started happening. The seed has been planted and a fabulous tree has emerged from that tiny seed in the form of Nachiketa Tapovan. It was established in 1999 as a non-profitable spiritually oriented service organisation to spread moral and spiritual values. Our Vidya Mandir activities were started in the nearby Madhapur Slum and later shifted to a temporary hut where our present building stands out elegantly today. The building came much later. Now the tree- Nachiketa Tapovanis heavily laden with fruits, providing shade, security and sustenance to all. The gigantic force, who prefers to stay behind the screen is Swami Nachiketananda, our Guru, Guide and Mentor. There is no activity in which He does not evince interest. Slowly, people started stretching their helping hands and formed a group of volunteers. We all live like one big family, moulded and shaped in amazing ways by Swami Nachiketananda. We invite you to join our family and help elevate humanity irrespective of Caste, Creed, Community or Gender and look upon people as the absolute manifestation of the divine.

Devotion to the mother is the root of all welfare!

You may delay, but the life will not. Celebrate the Moment!

Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much!

What we think we become.

YOGA The definition of Yoga has changed through its evolution. Now a days the moment you say yoga people think only about asanas, pranayama or physical health. The word yoga means 'Unity' or 'Oneness' with the divine and is derived from the sanskrit word 'Yuj' which means 'to join'. Yoga means the union of Individual soul with the Supreme soul. Yoga is a divine gift revealed to the ancient sages so that man is given the opportunity to realize his divine nature. Yoga is an Adhyatmik Science. It teaches you how to elevate ourselves into various planes. When you perform selfless action (Nishkama Karma) it becomes 'Karmayoga'. If you are performing Jnana Yagna without ego it is called 'Jnana Yoga'. Not religiously but if you are immersed in Japa without any expectation then it is called 'Japa Yoga'. Not superficially but if you forget yourselves in the glory of Almighty it is called 'Bhakti Yoga'. When you perform asanas and Pranayama concentrating not only on your physical health, but also your spiritual health, then it becomes Hatha Yoga. Hatha Yoga brings harmony between your physcial, mental and spiritual planes. When you perform meditation with the urge to discover yourself it is called 'Raja Yoga'. Similarly there are many streams of yoga, like Mantra Yoga, Laya Yoga, Tantra Yoga, Swara Yoga etc. All these yogas are meant to realise our True Self. 9

CREATIVITY FROM OUR LITTLE ANGELS At Nachiketa Tapovan, there are so many aspiring budding artists and poets and what not! We will showcase strengths of two students each fortnight. Durga from class 5 who has been with us since the inception of Tapovan is someone who won everyone’s heart with her hard work and talent to express through poems.

A couple of weeks ago on Sunday 11 January 2009 Nachiketa Tapovan released its inaugural issue of Nachiketanjali-our Newsletter-high lighting all our major activities. A 16 page free newsletter was sent to all our sponsors, donors, wellwishers and above all the participants in this noble task. Construction of a Dhyana Mandir with a seating capacity of 400 people was taken up in the first phase of Ashram activity. This will be dedicated to the general public with the basic objective of enlightening the spirituality in everyone's heart. We have started the construction with the minimum funds available to us, which is clearly a drop in the ocean. The estimated cost of construction as of now is Rs. 25 Lakhs. It was decided that we should issue a letter of appeal to all members. We solicit generous donations in cash or kind for the successful 15

completion of the Dhyana Mandir. It may kindly be noted that donations to Nachiketa Tapovan are exempted from Income Tax u/s 80G of IT Act, 1961 of Govt. of India. Donations in the form of Cheques / Demand Drafts may please be drawn in favour of Nachiketa Tapovan. Thanking you and awaiting your favourable consideration of our appeal at an early date. Yours in the service of Motherland

The Moon is my Friend

Narasimha from class 4 is the name that comes to our mind at the mention of “art”. Expression through drawing is his strength. He is also known for his candor and leadership skills.

Moon is my friend Because, when my mother beats me, I cry for 1-2 minutes Then I sit in front of my gate I look at the sky. The moon and stars make me happy. All my sadness goes away My happiness comes back to me. My friend is the moon!
