Spiritual Foundation is necessary to life or it becomes a burden for yourself and the society. Spirituality answers beyond the realms of science. Spirituality will help you make the transition from a citizen to a good citizen and an enlightened citizen. A spiritual person will move around in this world without hurting anyone. A spiritual person will enjoy life from every angle. In order to become spiritual, you do not have to drop your career, family and luxuries. But you can introduce Spirituality into your lives by giving back a little to the society, without expecting anything in return. Along with your academics try to do some service from where ever you are in whatever way you can. You have to take care of your family, society, nation, universe and lastly yourself. Only then you will succeed in your life.

It is fascinating when we see all that we are surrounded by today. Television which was a wonder fifty years ago, has become as common an accessory as a table in every home. The mobile phone has completely changed the communication landscape of this century. Our lives have changed when invaded by the Internet. Thanks to the intellectual exploits of modern man the whole world is inside our homes. But at the same time we are deeply disturbed and shocked almost on a daily basis with events that unfold in our neigbourhood and what the

media delivers us. Pick any day’s news paper and it can easily depress you. Today we have more knowledge but little wisdom, we have great connectivity but little time, fancier houses but broken homes. We have added years to life but not life to years. A drastic change for the betterment of humanity is the need of the hour. Youth are the roots of society. With their selfless service and ideal lives they can become harbingers of a future that is filled with hope, harmony and goodness.

Have the desire to know thyself. Spend some of your energy inwardly in understanding your self than all of it outwards. This wonderful tool called mind can be purified into heart. Follow your heart not hate. Develop deep perception so that you can see the absolute truth beyond the external body. Express the divinity within you and see the divinity in each person. Be sincere to yourself. Have the courage to admit to yourself and your parents even if you do something bad. Start walking your own path without following anyone. Don’t lose your identity in whatever place or culture you are living in. Be your own Signature. Do not stop, Keep going; Believe in yourself and your plans will materialize. Start inspiring people.

Swami Nachiketananda

The ever present is the natural state.

Peace is your nature.

to nature. But if you look at today’s human being, he wants more than mere survival, he is greedy. For his selfish motive he is ready to destroy the world. He is living against nature. Today’s man has infinite desires; he is blind with desires. Why is he living against nature? Man thinks that he is going to live for long in this world. He doesn’t know that, death is waiting at the doorstep. This is all because of ignorance. The purpose of coming to this world is to dispel the ignorance that we are carrying from so many births. Unless we won’t realize or experience the truth or the cycle of birth and death it will keep repeating and in order to discover the self, you need to remove the ignorance. How do we dispel the ignorance? With the help of spirituality and with the tool of knowledge not with the help of information. Information only gives you intellectual satisfaction not the Realization. Initially information helps you on the path of spirituality, but just information does not make you realize the real knowledge. Swamiji always says

Dear friends, this world is not true. Because as long as you are there in this world it exists, the moment you leave this world, this world disappears. So this world is not true, even your own body is not true or permanent. This world is ignorance, illusory.

Swamiji always tells that whatever is limited it is going to perish one day. Your body, mind, husband, children, relatives, and society everything is perishable. Ignorance is the root of all problems and worries. We always try to blame others for our problems but it is not really true. The problems are created by you, because of your ignorance. In this world except Atman everything is perishable. As long as you are covered with ignorance you are going to live like an animal that thinks about only its survival without any higher goal in life. Yet animals are living according Forgetfulness of your nature is real death; 4 remembrance of it is true birth.

that this entire world is within not outside. The same way the Real knowledge is within not outside. Only thing you need to remove is the sheaths of ignorance which covers the self. True and real knowledge will not be acquired just by reading books. It is received only in the holy presence of a real Guru. If you see Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, he didn’t read any Vedas or Upanishads, but whatever he spoke was real wisdom. When you experience true knowledge, wisdom sprouts from with in. The true self is covered by ignorance. Wisdom of the self helps to discover the real self. The purpose of human birth is not to neglect the self. The purpose of life is to discover the self within and enjoy the eternal happiness. The purpose of life is not only experiencing death but to experience immortality. So discover the self with the help of grace of the Guru, because only the Guru can dispel the ignorance. Experience your self with the help of true knowledge and wisdom.

Yuvanjali Youth Outlook
The Pre-launch of Yuvanjali that took place on the 7 th June 2009 culminated in a very energetic and purposeful exchange of creative and progressive ideas between the young participants. We make an effort to present the exuberance in the form of words in this issue. Ramya came up with the program called “Mission Five”in which within the college premises the students will collect a small amount of Rs 5 which will be easy on individuals but promising in good numbers. She also suggested that youth should make a point to make organizations as occasional hang out places. Kumar felt that after the prelaunch meet he gained clarity on what to do. We can come up with our own solutions for social issues and try them out, and if they work the government might help in implementing them and making them laws. (What great attitude!) Hold exhibitions for the crafts and works created by Summer Campers which earns more recognition for the campers and the Organization. More Yuva Outlook in next Issue.

RELIGION AND SPIRITUALITY Every child is taught to fold hands in front of a God’s photo. Every parent teaches his/her child to sing small slokas in their mother tongue. All these disciplines, that were imparted to us from our birth, together with what is learnt as we grow, eventually constitute our theistic belief. The crux of this process is, should we let this become our identity?

taught the Dos and Don’ts in the name of religion while Spirituality offers the logic behind those rules. Religion tells us what to do whereas Spirituality lets us choose what we want to do. No doubt that a toddler needs the mother who decides what is nutritious, easily digestible, yet satiating for him/her? However, one fine day the baby needs to wriggle out of the protective wings, and start making as well as earning his/her own bread. Only then the motherhood gets the fulfillment and the credit it deserves for giving the essential foundation to the child. So it is crucial that we fly high from the loving hands of our religion.

We all need to stretch beyond the shade of our religion and bask in the To me the answer is no. Religion glory of the universal God. To plays a major role in the early and achieve this freedom we have to formative years. Religion is like detach from the ties of sex, class, alphabets to a language. Learning caste, creed, country and religion the basics has always been the and work towards realizing “one in logical way of learning a subject all and all in one”. “So long as the except for prodigies. Religion is like drop remains separate from the the rocket that launches the satellite ocean, it is small and weak; but in the infinite space. Religion lays when it is one with the ocean, then the foundation for the spiritual it has all the strength of the ocean.” -Annapurna R. discernment in later years. We are Go to the source direct and do not 6 depend on borrowed resources.

The upanishad commences with the word Isha, hence the name. It is, therefore, called Ishopanishad or Ishavasya Upanishad and is from YajurVeda. The account is very short that it consists of only eighteen verses. Isha Upanishad is the wondrous experience of a sage put in words. It is the expression of the indescribable state of awe that was experienced by him when he attained the highest state of Consciousness. The Upanishad is like the gist of whole Vedanta. The beauty lies in the simplicity, succinctness and applicability to modern day life. The teachings are applicable to both Spiritual aspirants and the pursuers of material world. The world that is perceived by our senses is pervaded inside out by the God or Brahman just like a mud pot is pervaded by mud. The Universe has no existence apart from

God/Brahman. God/Brahman is identical with Atman, the selfluminous individual spirit. Thus we can understand that, Universe=God =Individual Atman. Based on this premise, the Spiritual Aspirant shall see Atman in all beings and renounce greed and lust. The seeker of Selfknowledge looks at the world from this perspective and advances towards the Oneness of Universe when Love extends beyond all partitions and limitations leading to Bliss. Greed and lust which arise only when there is multiplicity, keep us away from our true nature. Thus by controlling lust for wealth one moves closer to the true nature which is Divinity. A person who is attached to the physical body and wishes to live a long life, enjoying the material world should do so while performing work within the realm of righteousness which takes effect as unselfish actions. Righteous work purifies the heart, creates desire for Self-Knowledge and endows one with spiritual discipline required for such knowledge. Thus the Self-knowledge is within everyone’s reach and the knower of the Self overcomes grief and delusion and loves all beings.

The source is the heart, the self.

As stated earlier, this year we celebrate Nachiketa Tapovan’s 10th Birthday. We would like to take this opportunity to give a small recap of Tapovan’s History. Even before its inception, in the year 1996, Swami Ranganathananda, Late President of Ramakrishna Math and Mission blessed Maa Vasundhara that her house would become a Tapovan and later this is where Tapovan took its genesis. A small but dynamic group of volunteers under the aegis of Swami Nachiketananda successfully launched its Spiritual and Service activities in the year 1999. We began believing that anything is possible if you are willing to work hard and combine this hard work with Knowledge and a plan. Today our Tapovan family is serving over 150 underprivileged children. For us every single child is special. No matter what his background is, we are always ready to extend our tender care. Within no time we not only succeeded in giving quality education to these children but also provided free medical aid to people from neighbouring slums. (Continued on next page...)

The mind turned inwards is the self; turned outward it becomes ego.

The self exists without the mind, never the mind without the self.

Emboldened by our successes we brought other school children from the twin cities under our fold. With enormous effort from our volunteers, we successfully conducted workshops and Talent Search programmes and created a robust team able to move forward with compassion and understanding towards our common goals. Our quality of service was recognized by many who joined hands by sponsoring our children’s education and gave them food, clothes and medicines on occasions, seasoned with their love. We did not stop there. We aimed at improving the quality of our service standards and moved on to launch a development framework plan in the form of Ashram project at Kodgal village in Jadcherla Mandal, one of the largest schemes in the sector. First phase of construction is fast progressing and hopefully it will be inaugurated in the year 2010.

Many Himalayan yogis and other great Spiritual souls have visited Nachiketa Tapovan and the year 2007 brought into focus another great soul, Swami Shivanandamayi. Moulded and guided by her Guru Swami Nachiketananda she has dedicated her life for the cause of Tapovan. Swami Nachiketananda has provided solace to hundreds with His projects on Free education and Free Medical aid. It has been a saga of 10 years of service in action lived by example. His life has been His message all the way. It is our pleasure to share these thoughts with you because now, as we celebrate our tenth birthday we wish to move forward even faster to reach even higher supported by Youth Power. We honor the sponsors, Donors and Well wishers for their trust, respect and cooperation. It gives us strength; it fuels our passion and provides us with the stamina to pursue our goals. We will continue on the steady course we mapped out together.

No thought will go in vain. Every thought will produce its effect.

Let your standpoint become that of wisdom, then the world will be found to be God.

Anna daanam maha daanam; vidya daanam mahattaram. Annena kshanika trupthihi yaavajjeevanthu vidyaya.
Vidya Mandir at Nachiketa Tapovan is currently able to accommodate a family of about 150 children who receive all-round nourishment from man-making education to milk-n- meals and basic health- aid in an atmosphere of genuine love. Kind-hearted Well wishers have been the unseen force behind this offering to God. We thank you for your continued support.

Dear Atman
No man is an island. To fight the good fight we need help. This has been the basis for the Nachiketa Tapovan’s inception and ensuing growth over the last 10 years from a hut into a 3 storiedbuilding onto a 40 acre spiritual complex. Imparting literacy to children from impoverished families was the idea with which the divine project started before it grew into a multifarious movement. All along Tapovan’s efforts received great support from you all in every way bringing fruition to the noble intent.. The main focus has never shifted from Vidya Mandir. Nachiketa Tapovan has become the haven for the underprivileged children who have been nourished with not only milk and food but also good academics supplemented by the traditional values of India. Vidya Mandir will be taking a big stride this June from offering Primary Education extending onto Secondary Education. That is, this academic year, Vidya Mandir will offer classes ranging from LKG through 6th grade. It requires additional resources, both monetary as well as human to fund this progressive step. We hereby make a fervent appeal for generous donations. Please participate in this ‘Vidya Daana Yaga’ being performed to benefit the most deserving children and help pass on the legacy of our Cultural heritage, Social values and Religious traditions. It may kindly be noted that donations to Nachiketa Tapovan are exempted from Income Tax U/S 80 G of IT Act, 1961 of Govt. of India. Donations in the form of Cheques/Demand Drafts may please be drawn in favour of Nachiketa Tapovan. We acknowledge the generous contributions made by donors.
