The Named Men
A tough band of veteran mercenaries many of whom carry a reputation hence being “The Named Men”. This free company was formed by retired knight Drache Krondor to go north to help defeat Archaon’s horde.

Captain Drache Krondor

Personality / History: Drache Krondor was born in Ostland into a well-to-do family of minor Sigmarite landed nobles, he was sixth of eight children and was raised in the knowledge that he would either serve in the military or the Cult of Sigmar. Drache became a Squire to his uncle a Sigmarite knight. At the age of 16 his uncle judged Drache ready to become a knight himself but as family tradition had it Drache would first be sent to a seminary to train for the priesthood and then be allowed to choose his form of service. Drache had no great interest in the priesthood and left 2 years later which was as soon as his Father allowed it. At the age of 18 Drache was granted his Page 1

“The Named Men” NPC Mercenaries knighthood he spent the next 25 years serving the in the imperial army and then retired with a small land grant in the Reikland awarded in recognition of his honourable service. Drache’s family home in Ostland was burned to the ground in the early stages of the Storm of Chaos, when Drache learned of this he formed his own mercenary company hiring the hardest men he could find and went to join the war effort. The Named Men were involved in a number of engagements during the Storm of Chaos including the relief of Middenheim. Since the end of the war The Named Men have been retained to help clean up the remains of Archaons horde.

Vladimir is not exactly a great thinker and is definitely not officer material he is very good at following orders and making sure the men do. Vladimir hails from the same region of Ostland as his Captain and has served with him for many years. Vladimir retired from the Imperial army along with his captain and took a position as a militia sergeant on Krondor’s reikland estate. Vladimir is also familiar with Kislev having served there several times.

Personality / History: This former Reikland Outlaw was granted clemency in return for joining The Named Men and going north to face the Storm of Chaos. Black Elch has a terrible reputation among other tales he was said to murder all those he robbed in the name of the dark god Khaine his countless victims including dozens of innocent women and children. This is not entirely true if it was he would have been burned for heresy long ago. In truth Black Elch was a cold blooded killer but he has no great love for any god. Black Elch led a band of about twenty outlaws but during a beastman raid he led his band to the rescue of a small village, Drache Krondor and his militia were also riding to the villages aid and Black Elch was captured after the battle he and the surviving members of his gang were given the choice of hanging or joining the Named men for 5 years. Black Elch took the deal and is grateful for it but it is debatable if any other Captain could keep him under control. Black Elch is the last of his band the rest having been killed during the Storm of Chaos.

Lukas is a steady , skilled and loyal hand, he is happy to be back in a professional fighting force with real enemies after two years babysitting fat merchants.

“The Named Men” NPC Mercenaries Special Rules: The Raven Sword: A beautiful family heirloom with a onyx hilt shaped like a raven set with precious diamonds as eyes and wide flaring blade inlaid with silvered geometric symbols. Best Quality Craftsmanship Sword. Has the Fast and Defensive Qualities. The Raven Sword can wound Undead creatures that are immune to ordinary weapons. Deals SB+2 damage when fighting any form of Undead creature. Personality / History: Flashy, Arrogant, Haughty, Sneeringly Superior, Sigmar‘s gift to women. Felix is the classic “noble” knight he holds himself in very high regard and thinks anyone without the “right” blood is a pointless peasant. For all Felix’s flash and show he is very handy in a fight and nobody would dare question his courage. Felix reserves a special loathing for the Bretonian knight the rivalry between the two of them is starting to get out of hand as they both attempt to prove they are the best man in the company, Felix‘s use of a crossbow “a cowards weapon” has caused numerous arguments.

Things didn’t go according to plan during his first engagement Dominique was knocked unconscious and left for dead, the surviving knights were forced to move on to reinforce an imperial company that was under heavy attack. Dominique woke up alone without a horse, he began walking towards where he thought allies would be, on route he was set on by three beastmen stragglers Dominique killed two but was knocked down by the third as the remaining beastman poised to kill the helpless knight an arrow from Black Viktor’s bow struck it in the throat. The Named Men took Dominique with them and he has never left. Dominique has upset almost everyone in the group with his arrogance and pompous behaviour normally he simply ignores everyone he considers beneath himself, Dominique especially clashes with Sir Felix von Nuln, Felix is an arrogant empire knight Dominique is an arrogant Bretonnian knight a match made in heaven the two of them hate each other. Drache Krondor is close to telling Dominique to leave. For all Dominique’s bluster he doesn’t want to leave the Named Men he likes travelling as a man with a reputation and he has nowhere else to go and is near broke. Sir Dominique has no idea that Yasmina Belmort is a woman, he believes her to be a runaway serf and not worthy of life.

“The Named Men” NPC Mercenaries war for sometime a peace had been negotiated between them with a marriage to seal the union their lands were divided by a river the bridge was to be built to symbolise their united front and it had to be completed in time for the wedding. Not everyone was happy about the marriage and Goran was paid to sabotage the building of the bridge, Goran was just supposed to slow down the bridges progress but when a badly set stone collapsed two of his clan brothers fell in the river and drowned. Goran shaved his head and took the slayer oath. Goran has defeated a troll, a minotaur, a rat ogre and he helped bring down a giant during the war. Goran has vowed to never undertake any form of stonework again. He is surly and bad tempered. Goran would really like to die saving other dwarfs he feels this is the only way he could redeem himself. Goran will never pass up the chance to help other dwarfs unless he would have to work stone. Goran also spends a great deal of time trying to convince Uli Skullsplitter to give up his Slayer oath as he belives the Beardling to young for such matters.

Arthur “Patch” Adler

Personality / History: “Patch” Adler came from a well-to-do wine merchant family in Carroburg but as a young man he had no interest in trading preferring to spend his time hunting in the surrounding forest. Patch became known as a prolific archer and won several competitions. Due to his success as an archer Patch’s father indulged his son and allowed him to live off of an unearned allowance much to the distain of his hard working trader brothers. When Patch’s father died suddenly after a short illness his eldest brother Rudolph inherited the family business and immediately cut off Patch’s source of funds. Patch was forced to seek employment for the first time his Page 7

“The Named Men” NPC Mercenaries reputation as an archer earned him a place with a tough mercenary company but his poor hand-to-hand skills led to his dismissal. Since then Patch has drifted from one group to another acting as an archer and scout. Patch led a somewhat idle life for a number of years and it shows he never wants to do any form of physical work and will often disappear “scouting” if there is the prospect of some hard labour. Patch can in fact see with both eyes, his right eye became infected when he was a child and weeps if exposed to direct sunlight the eye-patch is made of very thin cloth which allows him almost perfect vision. Patch does not tell people he still has both eyes preferring to leave them amazed that a one-eyed man can shoot so well. Patch does not think of himself as a coward but he will run from any close combat his pitiful fighting skills make him an easy target for anyone getting close to him Patch is well aware of this and will “withdraw” if threatened with hand-to-hand combat. This has cause many problems in the past as Patch has appeared to run away during combat this is the reason he has never found a permanent home with any mercenary company. Patch’s attitude towards work and close combat has already caused some friction within the group.

Uli Skullsplitter

Personality / History: Uli Skullsplitter is a strange sight, a very young dwarf too young to have taken the slayer oath really. Uli is an expatriate dwarf brought up in Karak Slumbol. As a child he played with human kids and as a result felt that he should grow up faster than a normal dwarf. His father a Gunsmith is one of the few dwarfs in Karak Slumbol that actually works for a living. When some of Uli’s Page 8

“The Named Men” NPC Mercenaries human friends were conscripted into the army Uli wanted to go to his father forbade him publicly telling Uli that he was to young to fight. In an act of teenage rebellion Uli claimed his father had shamed him and that he would take the slayer oath and go to war anyway. Uli could not join an imperial regiment so he started north by himself and encountered the Named Men and basically attached himself to them. Uli took the slayer oath in a stupid moment of anger, now he feels that he cannot go back on it. But Uli does not want to die so he has reasoned with himself that by wearing armour and using guns he will be able to kill more dwarf enemies and so he wears heavy plate armour and carries several guns ( which he made himself ). Uli is at heart still a child, he gets scared often and is reluctant to initiate close-combat, to cope with this he has developed a sort of insanity he frequently goes into a frenzy during hand-to-hand combat. So one moment Uli will be hanging back the next he charges in screaming Khazalid war curses. He trys to avoid Goran Stonebreaker because Goran makes Uli feel like a child playing Slayer.

Ulrich Barentod

Ulrich likes to draw out a fight and toy with his opponents, he is very fond of single combats and duels. Ulrich also fills the role of company horse master.

Gustav fell in love with the beautiful Lady Dagmar Ost, she was far above his station and did not think of him as anything more than a good physician but nether the less Guastav loved her from a far. Lady Ost was the object of rivalry between several young noblemen and one morning she was found dead. Gustav was brought in to examine the body of his beloved who displayed all the signs of having been poisoned by Heartkill. Gustav had just sold a small amount of heartkill to Franz von Habstier one of the noblemen vying for lady Ost’s hand in marriage. Overcome with rage Gustav snuck into Franz von Habstier’s apartments and poisoned his wine with Spider venom and then hid, when Franz drank the wine it paralysed the young nobleman and Gustav revealed himself. Gustav proceeded to surgically butcher the helpless noble. Afterwards Gustav began to drink heavily his practice suffered and finally he was forced to seek employment with a military unit who were grateful to have any form of healer along. Gustav is a friendly if pitiful soul he always seems to be sunk in deep despair or drunk, but he means well and tries to help his friends as much as possible he especially has a soft spot for helping young lovers. In combat situations Gustav will hold back and attempt to provide support with his crossbow.

Luitpold was very happy with his life style until things changed very suddenly Luitpold and his usual group of companions were enjoying a drug fuelled visit to the Wolke Sphere drug den above the Aldorf’s Rohtanzer Club. As Luitpold lay in a stupor he had a strange vision of a great golden warrior ( Luitpold would later decide this was Sigmar ), the warrior showed Luitpold a secret door upstairs in the staff area hidden behind a wall hanging depicting a coiled viper. Luitpold awoke unusually clear headed with the burning need to see behind this secret door, he noticed that several of his companions were missing and he snuck upstairs. A sharp blow to the back of the head disabled the only guard and Luitpold quickly found the viper tapestry. Luitpold crept through the door and was greeted with the sight of two of his friends kneeling before a blood soaked altar shadowed by a statue of a coiled viper. A naked bejewelled elven woman stood behind the altar clutching a serrated dagger lying chained to the altar was Luitpold’s third companion the witch cut a piece of flesh from her victim’s thigh and throw it to the floor of the chamber, the two kneeling thralls scrabbled around the floor struggling over the meat like a pair of dogs while the elven witch watched on and laughed. The horrified Luitpold knew his purpose he had to stop this terror. Luitpold stormed into the shrine his rapier pierced the throat of one of his former friends while his dagger took the other acolyte in the belly. The Witch slashed the throat of the sacrifice spraying herself in a shower of blood, Luitpold vaulted the altar even as his friends choked their last breathes and struck out at the witch who parried with ease, Luitpold’s second blow forced her to jump back his third scored a deep cut to her arm, her dagger dropped from useless fingers and Luitpold’s fourth blow stabbed straight through the witch’s black heart. Luitpold started a fire in the club to destroy the shrine and escaped via a rear window, by morning the Rohtanzer club was just a smoking ruin. Luitpold was forever changed he is enternally grateful to holy Sigmar for showing him the truth and has since dedicated his life to serving his God. Luitpold left behind his carefree life and with the outbreak of the storm of chaos joined a free company ( the Named Men ) to “go forth and defeat the enemies of Sigmar”. Luitpold may have changed but he has not given up all of his past ways he still likes to look his best and still gambling is his favourite pastime. But Luitpold no longer drinks alcohol nor takes drugs of any kind, he treats women with respect and is willing to do a hard day’s work. Luitpold has the unshakable will of the fanatic he believes that holy Sigmar choose him for a reason and that Sigmar will send signs to guide him. Although he has yet to have another vision in the meantime he travels the land fighting evil.

Personality / History: Silas Tyrann was born in the rural upper Reik area his parents owned a small farm until a beastman raid burned it and killed them, the nine year old Silas fled into the woods and was found by a travelling trapper who took the boy on. From this point on Silas learned the ways of the forest, how to track and trap his prey, how to shoot, how to survive. Revenge burned bright in Silas heart and when he was old enough he began to trap a new type of prey: Beastmen. Silas spent his time hunting down beastmen, green skins and mutants with the occasional criminal thrown in to pay the bills. Personality / History: The beautiful Yasmina is originally from Bretonnia where she did not fancy the life of a Frogwife, so Yasmina cut her hair short and pretended to be a boy. Yasmina waited for the local lord to choose some new boys to become Men-at-arms and then joined the group when they left her village. Her straight back and strong limbs served Yasmina well and for a time no one noticed her presence was anything out of the unusual. Yasmina served her lord well and loyally she became a prolific fighter and was promoted to the rank of yeoman, allowed to ride a horse. Unfortunately Yasmina was injured in combat with a outlaw band, the wound cut her side and opened her tabard displaying her breasts and leaving no doubt as to her sexuality. Her Lord’s son who had led the attack against the bandits saw this along with everyone else in the party. Yasmina was returned to the castle for the attentions of a healer, Yasmina then received a visit from her lord’s son who tried to rape her “to teach her proper conduct” Yasmina fought back she bit his tongue off and knocked the knight’s head against the wall fracturing his skull. Yasmina then ran for her life, she was to well known as a Yeoman to join the Herrimault bands so she ran east towards the Empire. Not knowing how the Empire treated female warriors Yasmina once again disguised herself as a man to join a Mercenary company. Since joining she has learned that the Empire has a much more liberal attitude than Bretonnia and has revealed her true sex to most of the band. Sir Dominique still has no idea she is a woman and treats her as a run away serf I.e. even lower than dirt and will not even acknowledge her let alone speak with her. Yasmina is closest to the Physician Gustav and often tries to cheer him up. Yasmina has really blossomed into a fun loving young woman since coming to the Empire. She loves living in the Empire and would never go back to Bretonnia, she loves her freedom and the respect that most of her comrades hold for her abilities. Captain Krondor is fully aware that she is a woman and allows no special treatment and pays her just as well as any man this has earned him Yasmina’s total devotion and loyalty.

He was originally assigned to accompany a regiment of Ostland halberdiers and provide mage support, but during a vicious engagement with a war party of Khorne headed by Zar Smertel'nyj Diler all hope appeared to be lost and Alexi desperately attempted to turn the tide with a rapid succession of his most powerful attacks, his plan worked after a truly disastrous fashion. On Alexi’s ninth casting a great vortex opened knocking Alexi to the ground and a great golden claw reached through and beckoned to the combatants, who felt a irresistible urge to walk into the vortex only Alexi seemed unaffected everyone else including Zar Smertel'nyj Diler walked into the void. Then the rest of the daemon prince came into view in a hue of ever changing colours and rose above the fallen Alexi. The wizard was paralysed by terror as the daemon consolidated into the form of a beautiful glowing woman and reached out a suddenly delicate hand to caress his face. A voice entered the wizards mind seeming to speak every language he had ever heard at once “You are the Flame of Tzeentch my love, See your power” and a vision of a burning world with Alexi sitting on a flaming throne of bone with the daemon Princess kneeling before him. The daemon princess opened Alexi’s robe and touched the arcane mark of Aqshy that had burned into Alexi’s skin the day he became a Master wizard. Then just as suddenly the daemon was gone and Alexi was alone, the battleground had been wiped clean. Alexi was suitably shaken by this event and was found wandering in a semi-daze several days later by scout Heinrich Falke and taken back to camp. Alexi has been with the Named Men ever since. At the same time Alexi’s affinity with fire is becoming an obsession Alexi likes to burn things now in a way that he never did before, he will stare into the campfire for hours at a time sometimes talking to the fire when he thinks no one can hear him, when not entranced by a fire Alexi cannot sit still, he fidgets and talks incessantly while his eyes roam freely, his skin is pale yet hot and feverish to the touch, the mark of Aqshy once so clear on Alexi‘s chest has begun to blur and sometimes looks almost like a serpent. Alexi has fast unnerved some of the group, particularly those with a strong Sigmarite faith but despite his own religious misgivings Captain Krondor believes that the wizard may prove to be useful in the long run and puts his character oddities down to “A wizard just being a wizard”.
