2013 Edwin Hawkins Lifetime Achievement Awards to honor top Valley gospel greats
Valley citizens who have dedicated their lives to the gospel music ministry are recognized
FRESNO, CA The Valley will be suited and dolled up for a night on the red carpet, Friday, November 15 at 6:00 p.m. in honor of the 2013 Edwin Hawkins Lifetime Achievement Awards in Gospel Music, Central Valley (LAAGM). Fresno native, Christopher St. James, created the LAAGM in 2012 to honor valued Valley musicians from Bakersfield, CA to Stockton, CA who have dedicated their hearts and talents in the gospel music ministry for years. The LAAGM gives pioneers of gospel music the platform to be honored by their peers and colleagues within the Central Valley and beyond. The celebration is headlined by national gospel artists along with local talented artists who help illuminate the atmosphere with melodies of praise and worship. The founder of the conference, Grammy Award winner Edwin Hawkins, will present awards to the following honorees: The Bell Family of Fresno, CA; Mrs. Valarie Binion of Fresno, CA; the late Vernon Chappel of Bakersfield, CA; Ms. Stella Eldridge of Fresno, CA; Mrs. Cyndi Franklin of Fresno, CA; Ms. Mary McGee of Bakersfield, CA; Rev. Calvin Moore of Fresno, CA; Mrs. Darlene Neal of Lemoore, CA; Dr. Rodney 'Perky' Spencer of Fresno, CA and Mr. Mark Yandris of Merced, CA. This year LAAGM will also honor the original Pleasant Travelers of Fresno, CA. The groups original members, Mr. Junious Haynes, Mr. Willie Green, Mr. Ozell Thompson, and Mr. Nathaniel Walker, have been singing gospel music and uplifting hearts for over 50 years. Executive producer and media sponsor, Ann Marie Production (AMPTV) will broadcast the event during Black History Month, featuring radio and TV personality Ken McCoy on the Red Carpet pre-show, along with local celebrity, Andre Covington from 97.1, the 2013 Lifetime Achievement awards show host. The original Pleasant Travelers of Fresno, CA will be honored for their years of service is the gospel music ministry, followed by anticipated performances by Kathy Taylor of Houston, TX, Christopher St. James & the Greater Valley Chapter Singers, the Covenant Messengers of Bakersfield, CA, The Bell Family, The Ascension Dancers of BET's Bobby Jones Gospel, and a few special surprise guests.
