Say NO to Palm Oil to protect endangered orang-utans

Hi Everyone,
It is lovely to be back on deck after an unexpected lengthy absence. I wish to thank everyone for their concern and good wishes. The flowers and these kind thoughts certainly cheered me up. So much as happened since my absence nevertheless I feel particularly lucky not to have missed our wonderful production. I also wish to acknowledge Amelia and all the staff for keeping things going in the right direction in my absence. On returning I went and visited each class and what I noticed was the wonderful teaching that was happening in every room. Sometimes it takes a little distance to really appreciate how well things are going at our school. Another highlight of our wonderful school community was the fun day organised last Sunday for Brooke Alford and her family. A generous local community came out in full and showed that amazing things can be achieved when we work together for a worthy cause. It was a fabulous effort, headed up by the chief organisers, Flo Wallace and Nicole Macartney. Thank you so much for your efforts Flo and Nicole. It has touched many hearts. Another special thank you goes to Kate Ireland, who will join our school community next year when her little one starts in prep, and to Marcelle Miller who ran the fantastic Zumba sessions on the day. There were some sore legs around on Monday! Fun days like this take an enormous amount of time, effort and planning, so again thank you to all those involved. Just a reminder that we have a curriculum day next week on Friday 22nd of November. The focus will be on planning for 2014. We will be increasing our classes to fourteen and will spend the day working on staffing, grade structures and curriculum. Transition has started with 38 preps enrolled. It was just gorgeous to see their happy excited faces as they took their new buddys hand. Thank you to the Banksia teachers for such a smooth start to our transition program. By the time our newies start next year they will feel comfortable and ready for their first year of schooling. At this stage we are planning on having two straight preps. Last thing is we are planning a fantastic Friday on the 6th December for the whole school. This is being organised by the Parent Club and it should be great with a disco and a jumping castle. This day is a thank you from the Parent Club to the children for putting on such a great production. Additionally on this day students have organised an awareness promotion on the devastating effect that the growing of palm oil is having on the orang-utan population in Indonesia. They hope everyone will wear a bit of orange to support this awareness.

A wonderful result from the shopping tour: 24 ladies had a day out and raised $800 for the School. The tour was such a success, well done to Alison and the team who organised this great tour. The head lice check last Friday revealed 7 cases of live lice and 16 cases of eggs. Containing this spread of lice requires diligence in ch ecking heads an d usi n g products to kill live lice. At the last Parent Club meeting it was decided that they will be organising the disco and jumping castle on Fantastic Friday - 6th December. This is a gift to all for such a great production.

Its Not OK To Be Away!

Grade 3/4 Students will be making a sock puppet in art. Each student will need to have a old sock, medium to long in length and preferably not white. There will be a shoe-box in the art room labelled with each grade name and name tags to attach to the sock. Students need to write their name on the label, pin it to their sock and place in the correct box.

Mrs Krohn in the Art Room would appreciate the donation of small cardboard boxes. For example boxes used for toothpaste/ soap/face cream etc. Many thanks, Brigid Krohn Art Teacher
