Reflection and Evaluation

This was an enjoyable unit to create for our social skills students. The students in this course are special needs students who sometimes struggle with social cues and norms. Since these students school in a virtual environment, it is essential that they are familiar with Digital Etiquette. For this assignment, I collaborated with the social skills teacher, at my school, to develop an online module as well as live sessions for the virtual classroom. There were distinct lessons for the younger and upper grades because this teacher has students between grades K-5. The pre and post assessments were the same; however, the younger students learning coaches were allowed to read them the questions and assist with typing. This online module and the virtual classes were impactful to the students. The pre-tests scores were already hopeful; however, there was room for growth and for a better understanding of Digital Etiquette. The pre-tests scores are below; however, one may notice that most students were able to answer the multiple-choice questions correctly. One also notices that students struggled when trying to write an example of Digital Etiquette. The post-tests scores show evidence of full understanding of Digital Etiquette and their online blog (Weebly website) also shows evidence of understanding and their positive attitude regarding this unit. The post-test scores are also located below along with the Weebly website link. As one may see, after the sessions and module, students were able to provide an example of Digital Etiquette. Based on observation as well, students truly enjoyed this unit on Digital Etiquette and it is something that they will certainly be able to apply on a daily basis. When reflecting upon this unit, there are areas of strength and weakness. I feel as if this unit was engaging for the students and applicable. In addition, the pre and post assessments provide a fair measure of academic growth. However, I feel as if these assessments should have been somewhat more challenging and distinct instead of identical. This may have given a better picture of student knowledge and

understanding. I feel as if the online module was and is a wonderful addition to the live, virtual session. I think it would be wonderful to expand, especially for the social skills class. This online module could just be adapted to have more resources about other forms of Digital Citizenship or social skills concepts. I feel as if the live, virtual sessions were beneficial as well. The students were able to have live instruction, due to the nature of their learning environment, as well as access to the learning module online. With the implementation of both of these forms of instruction, students now have a better awareness of Digital Etiquette and are hopefully inspired to share their new knowledge with others.
