SKANDA-PURANA-SAMHITA
Kartt i keya, the commander -i n-chief of t he cel estial army, i s also
know n as Subrahmanya, Skanda. Guha and Kumara. In the southern
stal es of India, Subrahmanya is a popul ar deity even t oday. Among
the Tamil-speaking people he is bener known as Mll rukan or
Murugan.ln the Nor th. he is largely unk nown: but he is worshipped
i n Ihe East, especi ally in Bengal. where women pray to him lor
worl hy sons. Uke Ganesha. he 100 is a son 01 Shiva and Parvat i,

Svaminalha.
Karl1i keya though usuall y depicted as a bachelor is also mentioned
as havi ng two wives: Valli and Oevasena.
