Lady Cadets Host Lady Locos In Hilltop Boys Play Host To Montpelier In Foundation Game, Prevail To Take Opener Foundation Game, Takes Opener 50-41
WEST UNITY Emily Armbruster from the Hilltop Lady Cadets made an opening night statement scoring 20 and pacing the Lady Cadets to a 57-44 home opener victory over Montpelier on November 16. The Lady Cadets played the front game of a double header between the Locomotives boys and girls teams Friday night at the Foundation Game, benefiting the Williams County United Way. In front of a spirited crowd at home, the Lady Cadets opened the evenings action by outpacing the Lady Locos down the stretch and pulling away for an easy victory. Ambruster led the way and was followed by Hannah Bleikamp who contributed 8 points on the night along with Kailey Kramer, who dropped in 7 points for Hilltop. LeAnn Joost hit for 6 followed by Bailey Funkhouser who had 5. Also on the scoreboard for the Lady Cadets, Destiny Denton scored 4, Cierra Grant had 3 while Kayla Settlemire and Karissa Crisenbery each had a pair in the win for the Lady Cadets. For Montpelier, Baylee Hageman and Hannah Blake paced the Lady Locos with solid performances on the evening. Hageman scored 19 in an impressive performance and was supported by Blakes 15. Audrey Pirtle also had a strong evening under the boards dropping in 4 points for the Lady Locos. Haley Suffel got on the board for 3 along with McKenna Quaderer who had a bucket, and Malorie Yagelski closed out the scoring for Montpelier with 1 point. Proceeds from tonights attendance will go to benefit the United Way in Williams County, and the community support for opening night action at the Foundation game was a great success for West Unity and for Hilltop High School.
WEST UNITY Hilltop High School and the community of West Unity hosted the opening tipoff Foundation Game on November 15, in front of a packed house at the Cadets Gym. A spirited Montpelier crowd showed up to support the visiting Locomotives and the evening was a large success, both on and off the court for both teams. Leading the way for the host Cadets, Eric Stipe had the hot hand on the night pouring in 23 points, hitting on 5 three pointers and leading the way for Hilltop. Jalen Towers followed up with 9 points on the evening, while Freshman Quinn Smith contributed 4 points and a solid defensive effort. Xavier Lowery also dropped in 4 points, along with Miko Abner and Kelby Grime who each scored 3. Rounding out the scoring for Hilltop on the night was Nick Schieber and William McKinney who chipped in 2 in the winning effort. For the visiting Locomotives, Cody Caudill led the way with 12 points along with Nate McCord and Alex Matzinger who each dropped in 7 points in the loss. Michael Blake added 6, while Parker Houk, Jacob Leung, and Dalton Surbey each had 3 to round out the scoring for Montpelier.
