Archie Z. Cubos Student Mr. Francis Reginio Adviser Introduction Fallen Angels are not just fictional characters in novel, horror movies and video games; they are real spiritual beings that have evil motives when they interact with human beings, even though they may seem benevolent in order to influence people. Moreover, because they rebelled against God, they are already destined to eternal judgment. The researcher want to point out that this study is on what he calls “fallen angels” and not on what others call “demons”, mainly because there is a hierarchy of evil spirits, and some are more powerful than others. We see this in the scripture: “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” – Eph 6:12 In this study, it is meant to be understood “fallen” are those angels who are not holy; dwellers of heaven that followed Lucifer in uprising against God, as being the more powerful evil spirits that can have a physical presence that is not dependent on inhabiting a person‟s body. This modern understanding is scribed to Bailey (2002) that fallen angels are rebellious, deceitful and prideful. He believes that fallen angels are evil spirits who drag mankind to destruction, and thus, Evil spirit beings are regularly divided up into types in the Bible. It is written in the Gospel of John 5:5-14, evil spirits are spirits that have a strong attachment towards the earth and human way of life. They have an access to humans because of sin, traumatic events and judgment. In addition to this, evil spirits can affect the "state" of their host person ranging from the mind to total possession (whole being). They are able to influence the emotions, thoughts and actions of their host toward destruction (Matthew 12:43-45, Mark 9:17-18, Mark 5:2-8). Castellanos (2009) reveals that God did not create evil spirits. He only made the good, which was like Himself. Evil, sin, and death are the result of disobedience, which originated in Satan and fallen angels. Thus, there is a need to study the writings and evidences on how fallen angels affect the lives of people before and today. If they have knowledge about fallen angels, they are most likely aware on how Satan works. In the Philippines, many literature institution and learning programs focus almost exclusively on life, love, sin and death but very little attention is paid to help people understand the origin of these. In most schools, the thrust is always toward academic aspects of learning
