Matlock 1-5 RLWMFC Red Lion travelled to Matlock for this weeks game following a couple of poor results

and performances. Early morning entertainment was provided to the lads by Bushys attempt to reverse out of the car park at the Lion, leaving half his bumper behind. With superstars Robley (perfecting his tango), Macca (nursing a broken leg/semi depending on what youve heard) and Rich (still feeling the effects of last weeks sniper attack) all missing another new system was put together by Andy the tinker man Brear, Foggy and the latest addition to coaching staff, Lunny (the only man who helps sort the side out and ends up dropping himself). 4-4-3 was employed and right from the off it worked to perfection. Work rate, movement and quality were all on show as Lion dominated the opening exchanges against opposition who before the game had sat top of the table. 1-0 was only a matter of time and it came in unlikely circumstances. With the Matlock centre half pairing a combined 23ft in height, Luke Linacre somehow flicked a long throw on at the near post which crept in via the back post to give Lion the lead. Matlock, with at least 5 players well over 6ft (fuckin hell, what do they feed em round ere? Chris Gill 17/11/2013), were always likely to be dangerous from set pieces, something Lion had struggled with the week before, but the lads were much more organised than normal and defended very well. However, it was a set piece which brought Matlock level when the left full back who had yet to kick the ball properly in the previous 30 minutes somehow lobbed Adam from 25 yards. 1-1. Half time saw, for once, a constructive chat in which Lion felt they could win the game if they were patient and kept the ball on the floor, a plan which was to reap great rewards for the boys. In probably the best 45 mins of the season, four unanswered goals and near complete domination saw Lion run out 5-1 winners. Leigh Brear made it 2-1 with a brilliant free kick, coach Lunny taking full credit on the sidelines after he popped in a couple before the game. Not to take any credit away from Leigh who expertly curled it away from the keeper and in off the post from over 25 yards. Before it eventually became 3-1 Luke L managed to miss another penalty, but the lads reacted well and Luke M made it 3-1 with a great little shinner into the bottom corner. Pepe, on as a sub made it 4-1 with a really calm finish after some good work down the right hand side and Lion topped off a great performance with a fifth late on after Luke Ms shot deflected off Luke L for his second of the game. Top performance from the lads and much more like the Lion that have played well over the last three and a bit seasons. There is no reason why we cant beat anyone in the league performing like this. We caught up with Lions international sensation Pepe after the game for his thoughts on settling in with the lads and the wrench of moving away from his homeland: Reporter Pepe, how are fitting in with the Lion and what are your initial thoughts? Pepe Si, so far I enjoy. Pepe dont get ball enough and manager Andy Brear make Pepe sub too much. Today he tell me to play left wing I laugh and tell him Pepe striker. He idiot he continue to let someone else take penalty as well. He see soon that side must be based around Pepe. Reporter Talk us through your goal today. Pepe Well, Lion player, who cares name, do well down right hand side, pass it Pepe, Pepe control ball elegantly, sweep hair to one side, and caress ball into corner of net. Crowd go wild, people chant my name PEPE, PEPE, PEPE, PEPE! I hear so much about Sunday League of Chesterfield and moment is realisation of childhood dream when back in family villa on Lake C omo. Reporter How about the English culture how have you found it?

Pepe Dont tell anyone, but Pepe actually from Saltergate and real name is Pete I just do accent for banter. Now must dash, Pepe meet Elton John in evening at Lombardis. He great singer and love my meatballs. Manager Andy Brear was unavailable for comment. Rumours circulated that he was that pleased with the performance hed dashed off home for a three and half knuckle shuffle. Well hope to have comment from the gaffer next week.
