The world has seen countless number of writers and legends pass by in the past decades. Famous writers, authors have written plenty of books whose names mostly we haven’t even heard. The world is a globe of mysteries, of unknown depths. The urge to understand these mysteries is natural to man. It, however, becomes essential to begin this quest. Our school has been trying to extract, process and publish the talents of our brains into life-less articles and bring them into life through various other opportunities. Now that we have one such opportunity, to exhibit our talents, we think that we have utilized it in a profitable manner. We have utilized sciences and the available technologies and have sought our best to maintain the dignity of this -valued- book. To us, this is not a book, but a treasure of thoughts interlocked with everyone else to form a network- the network of friends-the vital part of life. All friends, have gathered; troubled our minds and assembled this very book in your hands into an everlasting memory. “LIFE”, literally a pretty term of two vowels and two consonants…but is a depiction of all the four-dimensional universe while fallible human beings think they have a right to not more then three. Life is an enclosure of eternity. Tragic ecstasy is what is life. The strokes of gray add colours to life. The goals of life pile up to its grandeur and grace. In this expeditious journey called ‘life’ we come across many but get intimately bounded up to only some. If you admire a person due to some reason, then you don't admire the person at all. Admiration, love and liking are all devoid of reasons. The reason imbibing ecstasy today might impose depression tomorrow. The same may lead to embracing moments and the same might end up being the reason for the most embarrassing circumstances. Causes and consequences are all always wavering. Therefore lets step ahead to put pain and pleasure at same pace. What a person is, can be learnt only by looking at him through his heart, but (mind it!) neither use brawns nor brains for it. A person’s outlook does not refer any accordance to what a person is! It all depends upon what a kind of person he is, at heart. Hearts compose a person. Hence decide one’s personality by peeping into one’s hearts through your hearts… It has been quite an old fact. “Change” is the only permanent and persistent change. What’s today has not been a day before…. Your dislikes can twist into likes. Your enemies can turn to be friends. Sorrows can bloom up to happiness…and bet you! This happens with all of us. This is all part of the game ”GAME OF LIFE”…where you and me are bound to win before life starts playing with us. When someone is dearest to our hearts, we should not mind letting ourselves a little low to win their hearts. As time passes all that matters is whether we had someone to care for us, understand us and be called ‘a friend for life’…life is too small a stage for disputes. By the time we realize that we need to get back our friends as they are the breath of life, the time might have passed out of our hands…….

How come it hurts so much? Kills you with slightest touch Even though you know you’re right You still seem to loose all hope Without notice how things get so off course? How a strange path suddenly begin to jerk Before you know it, one option becomes two As if the entire world spins faster And does not wait for you Things may go, before they had came And some one, somewhere, might feel your pain No one in the world is ever alone To you, their faces may never be shown, Just remember that we are all equal, And all get cut by their very sharp knife, That’s why we call this painful game- LIFE
The colors of seven
The sea that seemed to be an astonishing home of aquatic, Now looked as if it was filled with tears, And the rulers of the ocean that got hold of us, Turned into the most frustrating creatures. The most stimulating travel of the ship, Now became a tiresome job. Our faces that were full of excitement, Now were filled with tiredness. The irritations doubled by the drizzle, Making us depress and hopeless, There was no energetic traveler, Everyone exhausted, drowsy and so worn out…. In this nasty situation, A little boy out of this grumbling world, Screamed at the top of his voice, The travelers who were dead to the world, Now became alive to this provoking sound, One and all turned to him, ready to complain, The boy never considered ,looking up At the blue, bordered with the vibrant colors of seven, Which illustrated the man’s seven ages.
Every single person staring at its gorgeousness, With the face packed with joy, And the tiredness blushed away. Now the whole sea turned into a wonderland, The fish dancing, The ship sliding, The travelers full of life, And back into their enjoyable positions, The trip which seemed to be worthless once, Turned back into a most thrilling one.
The Real Life
Every morning we wake up, Have milk or coffee in a cup… We can never know what’s in store for us… OOPS!!! Time’s up! Gotta run for the bus!!!! School’s our second home they say, But to me it’s the only home I pray… Mud, dust, work, studies and play, This is the place where we live happy and gay… True to oneself, it’s the best ever felt, Even though we’ve been punished and knelt… The joy it gives me makes my heart melt, It’s so lovely and fresh that it can be smelt. All day long we toddle around Never do we sit without a sound!! Many things have been lost and found… Including my weight of many a pound!!! That’s why we go to school… Frankly, to walk around and fool??? Truly school life is just cool… Like a lot of honey and ice in a pool!!!
“School days are the best of a lifetime; so neither can you get the time again nor the joy… It is the right place and right time to experience life…. THE REAL LIFE”
The Night I slept with my eyes open...
As the brakes hiss, We are out, With a sense of bliss, In the dark blackout. The bus is up there, Now just a speck of light, There’s our guest house, In the dark, shining bright The building is surrounded by Giant crests and troughs of mountains, Sunken in the cold light, Of the moon in the mesmerizing night. In the full-moonlight so difficult to take, Is the water of a lake, As white as milk, The light as soft as silk. Here I am with my mouth wide open, In wonder, in amazement, So much that I never saw the four wheeled devil speeding behind me, Glaring with its bright yellow eyes, Reaching for the puddle Of the milky-looking liquid between him and me.
I felt a sudden splash of cold on my back, All my amazement washed away, I turned back to see my wet clothes And how the car sped away. That’s it the incident, After which I’ve never observed nature’s beauty, Here I am with my mouth wide open, In wonder, in amazement, So much that I never saw the four wheeled devil speeding behind me, Glaring with its bright yellow eyes, Reaching for the puddle Of the milky-looking liquid between him and me. I felt a sudden splash of cold on my back, All my amazement washed away, I turned back to see my wet clothes And how the car sped away. That’s it the incident, After which I’ve never observed nature’s beauty,
A Day’s Voyage…
Braced up, tolled up in one’s best bib and tucker The troop was all set for the trip Embarked on to the bus, The crew set in motion for the jaunt Began the amusement with the sights of the streets And carried on to the dwells of the dark The feet strolled all the way With sometimes a nay, the other a gay The day tacked from dawn to dusk At dusk, with no a deck.
I cannot forget those days...
I cannot forget those days, With my bright and smiling face, Jumping and wandering with fun, Fortunately in the absence of the sun. I and my friends caught up in the cold breeze, Who could hear only the sound of sneeze, Sitting and having fun with ice-creams, Sleeping and lost in the world of dreams. Singing and dancing on the stage, With very less difference in the age. Many ladies having their necks pearled, And young girls had their hair curled. When it was the last day, I had to leave the way, Sadness and sorrow filled my face, But the camels and horses that had to carry the visitors had a grace.

An Experience in train...
An experience in train, Turned my brain, While leaving my land, The dresses of my friends Were filled with fashion trends. Jumping and wandering with joy, Proving myself as a boy. Though there was no place to sit, But we were enjoying more than a bit. When it was noon, We realized this trip was a boon. When we reached the station, I completely went into depression. That was the story of an unforgettable dream.

No mirror can reflect your beauty, No camera can catch your grace, How proudly you stand, On the banks of Yamuna’s face, Everything is marble white about you, Your construction is flawless, So tourists are present near you always, You are beautiful as Shah-Jahan says, Softly shining while pearly dew drops fall on you, It seems like a majestic dream, In a misty opaque twilight, What a beauty to the eye-sight. That’s why you are a marvelous wonder, Without any blunder.
As the dawn spreads...
I was on my race, To a particular place, I was on the way to the hills, For which I had to pay no bills, At first, my path was extending uniformly, But as we moved on further, It was elevated suddenly, It was not only us traveling, but also the horses and many other. It was the time of the dawn, And the sky was totally fawn, There appeared a view chimerical, For which there would be no other view identical. There was darkness spread all over, But on the extreme tip of the mountain, was the beam of sunlight hover, which was just beyond my anticipatory curtain. This beam of light started spreading around, And made all the exhausted people physically sound.

My school days
My dear friends, please pay attention I have a few things here to mention When you enter the school gate Be sure that you are never late Then I say my prayers with a pure heart This is the way your day starts Listen to what your teachers say Increase your knowledge day-by-day If teachers scold you, never mind It’s a teaching of its own kind Be obedient and smart Then you can pull life’s art. These things are always of great benefit Keep them in mind and practice it School is a big playground Which makes us physically sound Schooldays leave footprints in our hearts Were there no schooldays may be you would ride a cart
At the foot of the young fold mountains Full of rough terrains Are the hills of Darjeeling Men were practicing terrace-farming And women were collecting leaves of tea At the plantations in the valley lonely Enjoying their duty And admiring the nature’s beauty Were the women who felt cozy Even in the chilled morning foggy and hazy Plucking each dainty fresh leaf And tying them like a sheaf They enjoy their duty And admire nature’s beauty The people of rough terrains At the foot of the young fold mountains

The Blackwell’s Island
A boy named Mark Watson was always known for his strange actions in the village of Costa Rica. He took birth with a triangular shaped mole on his forehead. He often had strange dreams about someone screaming in a ship and disappearing into a thin air. His parents were worried about his peculiar behavior and decided to leave him in an orphanage in Puerto Rico. In the orphanage Mark spent most of his time in thinking and recalling the strange dreams about the disappearance of people. After many months of thinking he came to a conclusion that whatever happened in his dreams were real. One day when all the children assembled to hear the news on the radio, Mark went on thinking about his dreams. Then he suddenly heard a news , ‘ ……today the ship M-285DGKL which was to travel past the Bermuda Triangle has disappeared and news has come from the passengers saying that before disappearing into the air, the cloud turned into yellow, compasses started spinning when they entered the triangle. We couldn’t hear anything further. The Minister says that………’Mark was sure his dreams were something to do with the Bermuda Triangle. He decided to leave the orphanage and go in search of the Bermuda Triangle. He knew that the triangle lied between Costa Rica, Puerto Rico and Bermuda. So, he took a boat from the orphanage and rowed into the sea. He was not frightened about disappearance but, was fully resolved to solve the mystery. Suddenly, the air around him became chill. He at once realized that he had entered into the triangle. He spotted an island and rowed towards it. When he reached its shore, he felt the island very familiar. As soon as he got down from the boat, an old man fell onto his feet. The man got up slowly and called others in a croaking voice, “Here’s our savior……he has come at last’’.
Mark was completely puzzled. In a minute or two, many people surrounded Mark. A young man called out, “We’re waiting for you Lord. Let’s not delay further. Please free us from the sin.” “I’m not the one whom you think. I am just an ordinary boy. I just wanted to explore about the Bermuda Triangle,’’ said Mark. “This island is known as the Blackwell’s Island,” said the man. He continued, “We are its residents. We were cursed by a wizard that we would be isolated from the earth for having disrespected him. Those who pass this area would immediately disappear for the others viewing them. We pleaded the wizard for mercy. He then prophesied that a boy would be born bearing a triangular mole on his forehead and he would free us from the sin just by uttering the word “Blackwell”. Till then we would remain isolated. Now we believe that you are the boy mentioned by the wizard”. Mark stood there dumb folded on hearing the story. “Please free us, O noble one,” said the old man. Mark felt uneasy and closed his eyes. He boldly shouted, “Blackwell”. He could hear gasps and cries from the people and realized that they had once again become a part of the earth. He slowly opened his eyes. The people around him let out shouts of, “Long live Blackwell ! Long live the boy!” Mark stayed on the island and never left it.
THE BEST AND DANGEROUS DREAM
It was a hot sunny day and it was Sunday. As usual I went to play cricket. After playing in the scorching heat I totally got exhausted. So after coming home I had a sumptuous meal and I fell asleep. In my dreams, I went to the past. I found myself in the wide open spaces of Africa where I found many groups of dinosaurs. It was entirely a wonderland to me. I was enjoying the adventurous and expeditious scene. I started admiring one particular dinosaur as it looked quite dynamic. One of the dinosaurs picked me up and I struggled to get onto its back. We went round the earth and while returning back we hit an asteroid and it went deep into the earth. BOOM! BLASH! Dust raised and touched the sky and the dinosaurs became extinct. I fell from the heights of the sky. I opened my eyes and I found myself on the clean marble floor. Sai Krishna
Our tour to Sikkim was decided only 3 days before the day. I was surprised as it was quite far from Hyderabad. We had all the packing done quite fast. We booked a cab and started early for the Airport at 0300. We boarded the flight at around 0430 and had our breakfast onboard. We landed in Kolkata as it was a break journey. We enjoyed a day in Kolkata and reached Siliguri. Sikkim had no Airports and that is why we had to take a bus to Gangtok. That was even more fun as we could see wonderful sceneries over the hills and on the way. It took 5 hours to reach Gangtok. In Sikkim, the temperature was as low as 2°C. Sikkim has replenished with nature’s beauty and scores of waterfalls. The language is kind of weird, like there’s a lake known as the Tsomgo Lake. We saw a bunch of interesting things like the Indo-Nepal border and the Kanchenjunga National Park. We returned home after around a week and I never knew how the week passed off just like the blinking of eyes. It was the most memorable trip in my whole life till date.
I watched this movie just yesterday. It was a touching movie on how a fallen US marine was honored and his mortal remains were delivered to his parents at a far-off place in US. Kevin Bacon, a senior officer in the US marine volunteers to take the mortal remains of Phelps Chance after he was gunned down during the Iraq battle. He was just 20 years old. Kevin Bacon, who also hails from Clifton, was very much concerned about the young officers in US marine losing their lives in the battle. He feels, such martyrs should never go unnoticed for they sacrifice their lives for their mother land. His journey with the marine’s body preserved in an exclusive wooden coffin covered with the US flag takes many changes of flights and on roads till he reaches the small town where his parents, relatives and people wait for Chance’s arrival. The whole film is about how the citizens across America feel and respect the young soldier’s sacrifice. The sympathy and support he gets from the children, workers, co-passengers, drivers, passers’-by, air hostess and other travelers were very subtly portrayed. There were very a few touching and moving scenes, the senior officer’s slow salute to the dead marine’s coffin case every time it was embarked and disembarked in the car and in the plane. The things he possessed with him (watch, cross, chain etc.) the way how they were cleaned, preserved and handed over to his parents, and when Kevin Bacon says, “Madam today you mourn for him, but not alone, across America people from all walks of life mourn for him” (where the flashback of the people’s reaction during his journey was well-edited, the co-passenger’s and two small children’s feelings were so beautifully shown). The film really awakened in me how our own soldiers too sacrifice their lives for the country and how we should also have such respect and treat, those who have fallen in the war, with such honor.
F-few R-relations I-in E-earth N-never D-die This is what friendship is. Life without friends is impossible and tragic to imagine. In our journey called ‘life’, we come across many while some get closer to us. Those, who leave a deep footprint in our life, are undoubtedly our friends. Sometimes they seem to be a burden. A friend is the one who keeps fighting with us, but the same friend can challenge the whole world to stop a drop of tear that might otherwise shed out of our eyes. A true friend is not a trend but a necessity since we need someone to share our feelings, opinions and make fun.
A DREAM COME TRUE Hey friends! This is Samhitha with you to share something about myself as a badminton player. I want to put forth my experience I had at the national camp last summer. The camp was held at Jalander, Rajasthan. It was winter season and was very cold in the mornings. My friends and myself had to wake up early in the morning at 4:30 and start practicing from 5:30 to 8:30. Then we could rest for one and half-hour and get back practicing from 10:00 to 1:00 in the noon. We could rest after our meal but got back to practice from 5:00 to 7:30. We had a good rest on Sundays and could enjoy watching the videos of world-class players such as Saina, Hidayat, Lindan, etc… All of us even enjoyed playing and chatting with our seniors. I had a good opportunity of getting trained from various coaches like Gopichand, Bhaskarbabu, Sudhakar and Mahboob Ali sir. We had matches on every Saturday. We divided ourselves into two groups and competed among ourselves. We had a meeting at the evening in which we discussed about the training in the whole week. We had campfires in the night and had a thrilling experience making friendship with many from different states.
QUICK THINKING: AN IDEA CAN CHANGE YOUR WHOLE LIFE “SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE”…. This may not work all the times. Spontaneity plays a vital role in the realm of life. An idea can change your life. An idea helped a man to win the Olympics gold medal. Only fifteen minutes before the weigh-in, American weightlifter Charles Vinci was horrified to find he had a overweight of 200g. Vinci acted quick and got his hair and beard shaved off. He made up his weight. He set a world record of lifting 342.5kg(1956) and won the gold medal. This is an example of something how an idea can change ones’ life. Here is another situation where an idea helped a driver. One of the scientists often toured to many institutions and universities to give lectures on one of his theory. His driver, Harry attended all his lectures sitting at the row in the back. One day Harry remarked “professor, I have heard your lectures lot many times that I am sure I can deliver them myself.” Harry, to his word delivered the lecture perfectly and the scientist sat in the back row as the driver. At the end of his lecture one among the audience posed a tough question for which Harry had no clue. Without stammering Harry replied “the question is so simple that even my driver can answer.” The professor went up to stage and gave the answer. The scientist was none other than Albert Einstein. It may so happen that no idea clicks to our mind in some critical situations. This is explained in this way. It was at midnight and an infant started weeping. The mother could not understand that the baby was crying due to a snake’s bite. They moved out of their house to reach the hospital but could not get any taxi as it was late in the night. It did not even strike their minds to wake up the neighbors.
Finally they got a taxi and reached the hospital but realized that they had not brought any money. Instead of taking the baby to the doctor they took the baby home to get some money. The baby had to lose his life in the journey. Therefore its quite important to get an idea at the right moment. To keep your brain working never let it go idle, give it some smart problems to solve or keep it engaged with some good thoughts and ideas by reading books or else your brain might get rusted as it is unused. As a result a smart idea will not strike you at the right moment.
HEY! BOOKWORMS, READ THIS!
Hey! Bookworms! Here is another book for you all to chill out with. It is a thrilling masterpiece of Dan Brown-THE DECEPTION POINT. The joy of reading comes alive through this novel. Lightning paced, intelligent and layered with remarkable research and detail, this novel is a thrilling piece of work-from its opening pages to its stunning conclusion. Talking about the story, it has got quite a good story line and a mysterious plot. The story is about a meteorite found by NASA in the North Pole, which contains a fossil of a bug. This discovery reveals that, life exists elsewhere in the universe other than the earth. To confirm this four scientists along with an agent of US Defense Agency are called on a secret mission to the North Pole. After a prolonged research and analysis, they come to a conclusion that the meteorite was completely authentic. But one fine day, one of the scientists finds out the truth-AN UNBELIEVABLE DECEPTION OF ALL TIMES. But as soon as he finds this out, he is killed. There is someone who is having a close watch on the scientists. The story also deals with the two contenders for power of the US presidency. One of the senators blames the other for having spent a lot of money over basic amenities like food and education. The other senator remains silent and is in the hope of unveiling the fact that extra-terrestrial life prevails. He waits till the survey by the scientists is completed. All of them, fail to realize the truth found by the scientist who was killed. Will the truth be lost forever…will the whole of the globe come under the cover a big deception??? To find the answers for these questions, you need to read the book with your heart and soul. Coming to the suspense and thrill, this aspect is carefully taken care by Dan Brown. When you read the book, you feel a blend of fear and shock. You need to remain spine-broken till you uncover the mystery. On the whole, this is a perfect book to spend your time on, as it contains enormous amount of knowledge, action, suspense, thrill and a great story. A must read for book lovers. S.Priyadarsini
The scary moment
It was winter. I think it was mid-November. The weather was cool; misty-something which made me dizzier. So I was still on my bed, dreaming in my own world. All of a sudden there came a loud voice calling “wake up”. I was irritated and thought to scold but it was my mom. It was getting late for my karate classes. So unwillingly I woke up and got ready to go. I was still feeling sleepy but I had to go. Along with my brother we were on our way to karate class. As it was winter the road was not clear due to the fog. The weather was misty and cool. Usually I would find some one or the other walking or jogging on the road, but to my utmost surprise only my brother and I were walking along the street. We went on and on. I was busy talking with my brother and I failed to notice my surroundings. All of a sudden my gaze fell on a long rope like thing. I was unable to realize what it was. I took myself near it. Oh! No it was a SNAKE!!!! It was long and fat with brown scales on it. I guess it was sleeping. My brother was about to shout loudly but I closed his mouth, I didn’t know what to do. My hands and legs started shivering. I could feel a bead of sweat trickle on my back. I was very much scared. There was no one to call for help. I was just praying to God. My brother and I began to walk very carefully so that, we don’t make any noise and disturb the snake. When we were confident enough that we were far from the danger we started running till we reached our karate class. Thank God! We were not encountered by the snake!
MTV Roadies 6.0 – Hell Down Under
Every minute, every hour, every day. I was eagerly waiting ,tying up all the works, putting my fingers crossed, bubbling up with excitement, spirit, anxiety, happiness, confidence for the best contender to win. I was struck by suspense and great excitement. Each second and each minute moved just like an hour and the ticks of the clock appeared striking lazily with another tick, tick, tick . When the clock struk 6:59 PM then the only minute which kept me away from the exciting, heart throbbing, mind blowing, fantabulous, the one and only show which can’t be replaced with any other show is Roadies. That single minute took away all my breath. My heart went thumping and I didn’t care about the surroundings and just got totally involved into it, and at that time the TV remote was lying somewhere in the position of rest at the corner of my house. Then the clock struck 7 and I felt that, that was the best time in my hands. Then the show went on for almost 1 1/2 hours and my eyes were totally glued to the TV. The reason I like it the most is, the show has many twists, shocks, and all the unexpected things throughout its journey of 3 months. The Roadies has so far completed 6 seasons and this season was the best season of all and every week it has showed us the ‘hell down under’. This journey of Roadies has left an indelible mark in my life all over its 6 seasons and I hope the 7th season of roadies also comes with more suspense, twists, bangs, shocks, excitement and lots more……..

Splish! Splash! Splish!
It was a perfect day and that was the day when I had to fly off to Madagascar [Africa] to write a report on the animal species found there. It was also my first time flight on an airplane. My first experience was quite good. After some time the sky looked clear enough and the clouds were spread like the cotton chunks all over the sky, there was no sign of birds. After a couple of minutes, the plane took wide turns, sliding gently in the sky, which gave the passengers a hint of joy and happiness. Finally at the mid noon we reached Madagascar. I found myself to be in the open spaces of the island where the research was to be carried out. We refreshed ourselves in the guest house. A week passed, now we had to extend our research in South Africa, so we had to travel to South Africa on a ship. That day was terrific, strong currents of winds and huge waves of the ocean were hitting our ship. After that terrific night, we found ourselves in a place which was packed with ice-caps, snow and glaciers. We were shocked completely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We knew that it was absolutely not South Africa but the icy Antarctica! Oh gosh! We were completely frozen and we packed ourselves with blankets and towels which gave us little comfort. Our ship was alright. We decided to continue our research, we collected some fur, DNA, and some foot prints of those animal species to find more. After a couple of days we reached South Africa where our team received many awards and rewards for our research work . One of them was Nobel Prize! Splish! Splash! Splish! Water slashed on me. I thought some one in our team but it was my mom! Oh it’s morning now! Hmm! Finally I’ve learnt something - “if you want your dreams to come true you must wake up”….
THE LAST CARNIVAL
Dec 23, at 5:30 PM, I am afraid this is not a diary entry! My buddies and me though tired, bore a good cheers and tattoos on our faces. Guess what? It was my last carnival filled with vigor, pomp and joy. Rewinding the time a little to about 7 in the misty morning. The show was set with pretty ladies and handsome guys. The carnival got into its form with the stalls raised by the students. Lucky Dip, Hole in the Face, Harry Potter and The Broom were the stalls in demand. That’s all about games… now down to the delicious delicacies… Amphitheatre, food court and our canteen were booming and brimming with mouth watering dishes, such as different type of pastas, pizzas, Hot dogs, Chinese items….YUM……YUM and so and so forth……..!!!! Something quite noticeable stall among the mess was that of the learning centre. This stall was put by the mentally and physically challenged people. Here were available the most scrumptious brownies. These challenged proved to be a challenge to the entire crew over there. One of the highlights among all the stalls was the stall put by the School EVS lab, which had novelties such as cards, candles, decorative items for household purposes, diaries and many attractive things. You might raise a question, saying what's a big highlight in this. Well let me tell you that these cards are not the ones which we get in famous shops like Archie's. These cards are made up of recycled and hand-made papers prepared by the students in the school. These cards were topped with some fabulous Madhubani Paintings done by the students themselves. Candles were made and then painted by the students with the help of the teachers. That’s the best part of it. The day just set from dawn to dusk and the rocking event of the days evening was the JAM SESSION. Well this is not a JAM eating session. It’s a JAM SESSION where the floor is set on fire by some amazing tracks played by the superb DJs which set up the entire mood go WILD. Well the most catchy moment of the session was the dedication session where the songs were dedicated by the students to a particular student or a group of students.
This Carnival didn’t just mean fun and music alone but it had a good cause behind it. The money or the funds raised by our students at the end of the carnival are donated to a school named Umang which gave the benefit of education to the poor and needy. This school is run by the management of our school in the afternoon. Life goes on and time keeps passing on…….. sometimes happy moment bring cheers to life and unhappy moments also go with them. The happier the moments are cherished and the more the unhappy moments are removed. The last Carnival has been an ever cherished moment in my life. This moment will always lit up a smile upon my face whenever I think about it. Sonakshi Radhika
What is music? To me, music is a language. A language used to express feelings and emotions. When one enters his room, tired after a long day’s work, music relaxes and soothes him the best. Music has changed over time. Initially, music was composed to touch the listener’s heart. Now music is all about rock & roll. Lyrics used in the songs have drastically changed. Many new genres have now been introduced to music. Some of them are rock, hard rock, punk rock, hip-hop, rap and R & B. In the middle of the 20th Century, competition between music composers grew, marking the rise of numerous bands. Vocalists, Guitarists, Bassists and Drummers grouped together to compose music. Most of them didn’t remain in the field for a long time. Some bands that gained popularity in the 80’s and the early 90’s are Metallica, Green Day, Backstreet Boys and Westlife. Metallica turned out into the kings of Hard Rock, Green Day ruled the genre of Punk Rock, and Backstreet Boys were in the field of pop. Many individual singers also rose during this time, like Bryan Adams and Bon Jovi. In India the hot favorite for almost 10 years has been the band Linkin Park, an army of 6 artists. The songs of these bands have widely varying aims. “What I’ve Done” by Linkin Park provokes people to fight for environmental protection and against evils like poverty and hunger, whereas, the punk songs like “Holiday” and “American Idiot” by Green Day are go ???, “ I don’t care” kind of songs that openly criticize American politics. Genres of music have been changing over time, but the meaning and the aim of music have remained the same since its creation itself, since the birth of Adam and Eve. Shardul Vikram
THE LONGEST RUN I EVER HAD
It was the day after the blast in a luxurious international hotel in Mumbai. But the people of Hyderabad were not afraid. They gathered for the 5th Hyderabad 10K run in large numbers. I felt like a rat in front of the uncles and aunties who were also participating. I got stuck in the beginning because the crowd was so heavy. I balanced myself in some time and started running with everyone else. Almost when 5 kms were up, I started losing my strength. They were providing water bottles and glucose to refresh. I had almost made up my mind to give up when the people encouraged me and I began running yet again. I thought that if I had finished the first half, why couldn’t finish the second one? In the way, when I was thinking this, I stepped into a puddle of water and got my shorts and shoes dirty. I wiped out the dirt and began running again. I finished the run in around an hour and a half. It was good to see that even physically challenged people were participating. There was also a number of cine stars. After the run finished the people were shouting slogans like “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, ”Vande Mataram” etc. An army officer won the first prize and received a cash award of Rs. 1 Lakh. I can never forget this run throughout my life.
Once, we were playing cricket at our school. The ball went deep into the woods. We went in search of the ball and found a map to an ancient treasure. We, F.F.F.F ( Fantastic Five Fear Fighters, Avi, Har, Sha, Ank and Vik (myself) planned to go on a treasure hunt. We were well planned for our adventure and we stayed at Sha’s home the previous night. We all had 5 different phobias Ank- phobia of darkness, Avi and I were scared of ghosts, Har-was scared of great heights, and Sha’s horoscope predicted that he would die due to water. We had a good dinner and slept at Sha’s home. I had a deep sleep. We had a healthy breakfast and were about to start our journey. Suddenly, a black cat passed our way. I am very much superstitious. So, I asked my friends to stop but they laughed at me and I had to follow them. The map was with Ank and was leading us to the treasure. After a long time, we reached a place which was suitable for camping. Then we, decided to fix a tent and put a camp fire as it was very cold. Then Sha snatched the map from Ank and tried to study it with the help of the light of the campfire. To his utter shock Sha realized that the map was upside down till then. Due to the shock his hands became numb and the map flew straight into the fire. Then, everyone scolded Ank. We all went to sleep. It was pitch dark at midnight. Everyone was asleep except Ank as he was scared of darkness. He was trembling. Suddenly, he heard sounds from the trees. He didn’t want to disturb anybody, so, he went to check it out alone. There was a deep valley which had appeared from nowhere. At the bottom, lay Ank’s body. Dead! alone in the darkness of the moonless night.
Next day we all searched everywhere for Ank, but all the efforts were in vain. We carried on our Journey. We saw a bear, it chased us to a river. All of us except Shar crossed the river. He was too scared to enter the river and the bear killed him. We missed our another beloved friend. We wept for him and prayed for the peace of his soul. Then, we continued our journey. We approached a big worn out bridge. Below, there was a deep valley. Avi and myself gathered courage and slowly crossed the bridge. But as Har was scared of heights, he refused to come onto the other side of the bridge. But after we encouraged him, he started to walk on the bridge. After sometime, he noticed that the bridge was half – crossed. He was tensed. He didn’t know how to cross the entire bridge. He stood in the centre of the bridge for a long time. He lost control over himself and suddenly, started running and the bridge turned upright. He fell into the valley and for the first time, I wished that gravity never existed. His screams turned into our tears and faded away. At last, Avi and I were alone in the deep forest. To our surprise it was already midnight. We ate some berries and fruits from the trees. We lit a fire and tried to sleep. All the memories of my friends went round in my mind. I could not even imagine that all the jokes we were making would turn into this. After some time, we went into deep sleep. Later, we heard some weird sounds. I got up slowly and saw a pale figure floating right over us. I woke Avi up. We noticed that it was a ghost. It told us that it was the owner of the treasure. As we found the map, the ghost started haunting us. This was the reason of the death of our friends. Now, it was the time to fight a ghost. Avi and I started moving in the same direction. Avi turned behind to watch out where the ghost was. And then, a sharp branch of a tree pierced into his chest. Blood oozed out of his heart. His life ended for me within no time.
I sat at the place of his death crying for him. I was so frightened that out of my fear I outran the ghost. When I stopped to catch my breath my shirt got stuck to the branch of a dead tree. I thought the ghost had got me and I tried to run away. I pulled so fiercely that the weak tree fell on me, taking my life. It went dark completely and suddenly I started feeling a kind of heaviness in my head. I felt a sudden surge of energy and got up. I found myself on my bed with the guys around. I narrated the entire dream to them and till the end everyone was stunned and suddenly they broke out laughing louder and louder. Fight your fear: “DARR KE AAGE JEET HAI” So fight your fears though real or dream, and be a winner.
Epilogue: It is my pleasure and privilege to proudly present this first ever digital (e-magazine) magazine entirely written, edited and designed by the students of Class IX (2008-09). I always believed in the inherent and latent talents of children. And I also believed that it should be nurtured by the teachers and parents. If we failed in this, and focused only on churning out photo copies and memory machines out of them we are sure to lose our 1.2 billion strong human resource and leave the unique qualities and skills untapped. And then, as usual we can look at the westerners with awe and wonderment and say, “How a few million people can take a nation to such an advanced level and give a pride of place in the world”. Let us all believe that we can do the same magic even in our country, if only we focused on students’ learning in the real sense and encouraged and celebrated their inner urge to create. Though it may appear small, for they are just little ones, but, they are sure to rewrite the history of this great nation one day. If we don’t encourage, at least let us not pin point their mistakes (or blow them out of proportion) and put barriers to their fast growing young minds. Let us believe that …. “They are born to create and not to duplicate”. N Sundaram The English Teacher
