VIRTUAL REALITY

Introduction Virtual reality (VR) is a computer-simulated environment that can simulate physical presence in places in the real world or imagined worlds. It refers to any virtual world represented in a computer, even if it's just a text-based or graphical representation. An artificial environment created with computer hardware and software and presented to the user in such a way that it appears and feels like a real environment. To "enter" a virtual reality, a user dons special gloves, earphones, and goggles, all of which receive their input from the computer system. In this way, at least three of the five senses are controlled by the computer. Variations of Realities 1. Recorded Reality: First there is a realistic presentation of a recorded REAL world. 2. Simulated Reality: Sometimes a view is simulated, or produced, to depict a real setting but without using a recording of this setting. 3. Represented Reality: In this type of virtual world an effort is made to recreate something with which the viewer is familiar. 4. Non-Real Realities: All of the above realities depict some scene or action which might actually exist in the real world we know. 5. Augmented Reality: In the case of an augmented reality, a world is created in which scenes of the real world are mixed with additional creations, such as representations of other real items or non-real symbols. Types of Virtual Reality 1. Passive. In a passive VR world, the viewer can observe and experience, but he cannot alter it. A common example is a typical movie. 2. Interactive. In interactive virtual worlds the viewer can interact with his virtual surroundings. Disadvantages of Virtual Reality The disadvantages of VR are numerous. The hardware needed to create a fully immersed VR experience is still cost prohibitive. The total cost of the machinery to create a VR system is still the same price as a new car, around $20,000. The technology for such an experience is still

VR has been considered by many to be out of the mainstream. Training with a VR environment does not have the same consequences as training and working in the real world. Many different fields can use VR as a way to train students without actually putting anyone in harm's way. Advantages of Virtual Reality Although the disadvantages of VR are numerous.R.
