As the presence and activity of Franciscan Mission Outreach in the Diocese of La Ceiba unfolds and extends, the momentum has increased and more and more opportunities have opened up. The two month visits that took place in late summer and late fall were full of a variety of activities involving evangelization and outreach to the poor. Some of them include:

Retreats and formation activities with and for Missioners of Christ lay community, both in La Ceiba and Comayagua. In Comayagua this includes working with Corazón Puro youth chastity outreach, a fledgling Communion and Liberation School of Community, and visits to the Granja Jesús Nazareth home for boys. Welcoming the Daughters of Mary of Nazareth mission team from Boston that included both religious sisters and lay women. The team conducted weeklong programs for women and children in the community of San Judas Tadeo, as well as provided school supplies, liturgical items and support for repairs on the Santa Inés Women’s Training Center. A number of different evangelization efforts with the assistance of pairs of Missioners of Christ that came to La Ceiba for two-week visits that included school programs, Holy Hours, radio shows, missionary formation, youth activities, prison ministry and more. AFRICA UPDATE: With the help of our benefactors, Franciscan Mission Outreach was recently able to send support to two
wonderful works of mercy visited by Fr. Herald Brock, CFR last year: the Mutemwa Leprosy Settlement and Mother of Peace orphanage in Zimbabwe (pictured above). FMO was also able to assist the Nigerian Missionaries of St. Paul working in Torit, South Sudan with vehicle repairs and sponsorship for local youth to attend the Youth for Christ conference at Emmaus Centre in Uganda.

At the request of Bishop Michael Lenihan, OFM, most of our missionary activity continues to take place in the Diocese of La Ceiba, Honduras and includes evangelization efforts, spiritual formation, programs for youth and young adults, welcoming visiting mission teams, and outreach to the poor. Many of these activities are carried out in close collaboration with Missioners of Christ.
