Recommendation(s): Consideration of a resolution authorizing the pu rchase of three Ward

Diesel Filter Systems to replace the current filtration system used with the ambulance and both fire engines.
Executive Summary: The purchase of the Diesel Filter Systems replaces outdated models

currently being used.

The new system will provide diesel exhaust

filtration at all times while the vehicles are running. The current system only provides filtration when the vehicles are in the station. The system exceeds all established exposure limits as stated by NIOSH/OSHA. The system will remove dangerous diesel exhaust gases and reduce emissions for a cleaner environment. These filters are currently used by Monterey Fire with their fire engines. The purchase of the Diesel Filter System was approved in the 2013/2014 budget as a Capital Improvement.
Analysis/Discussion: This system will replace an old system that cannot provide filtration

outside the station. The new system is mobile and will provide better filtration lowering exhaust emissions. Filtration system.

CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA CITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION 2013-_ A RESOLUTION OF 11IE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY TIIE-SEAAUTIIORIZING THE PURCHASE OF A DIESEL FILTRATION SYSTEM FOR TWO FIRE ENGINES AND AMBULANCE.
WHEREAS, the new filtration system will replace the old outdated system currently being used; and WHEREAS, the updated filtration system will provide air filtration at all times when the vehicles are being used; and WHEREAS , the filtration system exceeds all established exposure limits as stated by NIOSH/OSHA; and WHEREAS, the purchase of the diesel filtration system was adopted as part of the budget for FY 2013/2014 in Capital Improvement Plan FIRE-1213-01 and AMB-1213-03. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA DOES:

Authorize the purchase of three diesel exhaust removal systems.
