Subject: Kyle Houston - showing signs up improvement but not quite ready for transition.

Inez, Kyle Houston is showing several sign of improvement, but I do not feel he is ready for the promotion at this time. In order to arrive at my conclusion, I took into consideration my own direct observations as well as the ratings Kyle received from 15 of his team members from his last project. On a scale of 0 to 3, Kyle received an overall rating of 2.42. Kyle was evaluated based on his ability to contribute, listen to his peers, and facilitate group problem solving. Team members gave Kyle a 3 rating if they felt he performed very well in a specific area and a 0 if they if they felt he performed poorly. Kyle received an average score of 2.83 for his ability to contribute with his team members, a 2.18 for his ability to facilitate group problem solving, and a 1.96 for his ability to listen. I collected scores over the course of three evaluation periods. Kyle was a key contributor to the strategic plan. He always arrived about 10 minutes early for all meetings and completed his portion the research at least two days prior to each deadline. He made a suggestion to videotape the meetings to accommodate team members who were traveling which reduced the amount of time spent reviewing what was covered in the meeting with those who missed. He did not appear to have as much experience facilitating group problem solving as his team members, but I saw he was not afraid to encourage suggestions for alternative solutions. I think we will start to see him discard all but the best solution as he gains for confidence in his ability. Some group members expressed that they did not feel Kyle listened well to their concerns. At KPMG, Kyle worked in groups of only 3 to 4 members. I think as Kyle starts to adjust to a larger group setting, he will realize the importance of showing appreciation for the input of others. I plan to sit down with Kyle to discuss his feedback from his peers in order to make him aware of what skills I would like to see as he contributes to the next project. I believe Kyles listening skills will drastically improve as he gains more experience working in larger groups for three to six more months. Thank you for trusting my judgment and allowing me a chance to review the feedback from Kyles group. I am looking forward to watching Kyle grow and develop into a team leader. He is an important asset to our company, and he will continue to improve with more experience. Please let me know if you would like to calculate the ratings on any additional members of my team. Thanks, Kelsey
