Process Plant for Grain, Seed and Feed

Solutions

Overview and Responsibility All in One

Grain handling requires the utmost care and efficiency at the same time. It is a question of taking care of the grain and of controlling both storage and processing - to ensure that the grain retains its quality and to reduce waste. Each and every process - from harvesting to the final use of the grain - requires specialist knowledge, whether intended for human consumption, animal fodder, seed grain or other applications. It applies to the drying, grading, cleaning, storage, conveying and further processing of the grain in a processing plant. Furthermore, different types of seed require different treatment and different insights. Grain, peas, sunflower seeds, coffee beans, cacao and rice - every crop is unique, a living organism which makes its own demands. At Cimbria we have attained market-leading and in-depth specialist know-how within all these areas - and not least within the development of turnkey project solutions. This know-how is the result of extensive research and close cooperation with customers all over the world. When projecting process plants and complete solutions, this comprehensive knowledge must be coordinated. This results in solutions which ensure that all parts of a plant are working together optimally - and that both daily operations and subsequent maintenance are as troublefree as possible. Consultancy Based on Experience More than 50 years of experience from the projecting of plants all over the world form the basis of the consultancy which we offer to our customers in all questions concerning the design of their complexes. In combination with the extensive knowledge about grain handling, which is one of the hallmarks of Cimbria, our consultancy services ensure that customers are presented with the best possible project proposals. And a carefully considered project proposal is absolutely essential if a plant is to operate satisfactorily every day, 24 hours a day. Efficiency and Economy It is also our experience and expertise which enable us to develop solutions according to the principle of value for money, for example through the exact sizing of the process plants in accordance with the capacities which are required on a daily basis. Any parts of the plant with surplus capacity will use more energy than is necessary and its operating economy will thus not be optimum. Thanks to our extensive experience - and through the use of, for example, computer simulation programs - we ensure exact sizing to avoid surplus capacity. Incorporation of Environmental Factors Our environmental initiatives include the development of solutions which effectively reduce dust pollution - as well as solutions which minimise energy consumption. For every project we offer advice and recommendations on the basis of our detailed insights into the customers situation and their environmental objectives. Strong Project Management Strong project management supports the reliability and quality inherent in our products and project proposals. From the time the order is placed until the expiry of the warranty period we place the full responsibility for the implementation of the project in the hands of one senior project manager who is the customers only contact person. Under the supervision of the project manager a project group is appointed, composed of a number of specialists who each within their field contribute to ensuring that their comprehensive specialist knowledge about machinery, electronics and buildings is used for the benefit of the project. Specially adapted technical documentation with detailed instructions on the operation and maintenance of the system is prepared for each and every system. Danish Quality and Know-how Danish agricultural produce is valued all over the world for its quality - and the Danish agricultural sector is behind the best products in the world. At Cimbria, we have supplied the important prerequisites for this development - in the form of plants of uncompromising quality and market-leading know-how.

Cimbria - Integrated

Optimisation through Control and Monitoring

Many of the worlds crops are lost during storage due to the uncontrollable development of heat and moisture. Therefore, electronic monitoring and control of temperatures are of vital importance in modern grain handling. Process control is nothing less than the central nerve system which controls the processes during operation. Since 1975, Cimbria has developed and integrated these control systems - and the projecting of complete Cimbria plants therefore takes place in close cooperation between the customer, programmers and mechanical and electrical engineers. As we master both machinery and process control, we can ensure optimal integration of the various components - and our customers lixise with a single contact person who is responsible for the entire plant. Precise Temperature Control Denmark - feed mill Grains are living organisms which breathe - and during the breathing process, their nutrients are broken down into carbon dioxide, water and heat. This is the start of a vicious circle which causes the quality of the crop to deteriorate. The most important parameter in the process control which is to prevent this deterioration is the temperature of the grain. Controlling the temperature in combination with a number of other factors - is of decisive importance for how much of the nutrient value of a grain is lost during, for instance, drying and storage. Unitest temperature monitoring systems are incorporated as natural elements in our solutions for temperature management and control. The temperature limits differ from one grain sort to another, and they must be defined very carefully and precisely for every project. These figures must be defined and coded at the installation of a plant - and at the same time the temperature fluctuations are determined, i.e. the tolerances within which the

temperature may fluctuate during the process without the quality of the grain deteriorating. After that, the Unitest systems provide automatic monitoring and regulation of the temperature and ventilation of the grain. Simplicity and Userfriendliness The knowledge which lies behind our process control systems is complex - and many factors influence the calculations which are to ensure that the crops are treated as gently and efficiently as possible. We have, however, used some of our technological know-how to develop a userfriendly database structure - for ease of understanding, reading and precisely regulating the process control. This ensures that the advantages which have been built into the electronic control system are, in fact, utilised - no matter where the systems are built. Research, Trials and Training The Cimbria Academy in Denmark has been established as part of our systematic accumulation of knowledge. In addition to housing our ongoing research and development activ-

ities, general courses are held all year round as well as training courses specially designed for particular plants. At these courses we teach the principles behind the different types of grain treatment with process control as an integrated part - and we conduct ongoing technical trials of our plants using any crops or materials which our customers would like to be tested. Through cooperation and dialogue at the school, customers can see for themselves that their different requirements are met.

At the Cimbria Academy research, development, teaching, training and testing are carried out all year round.

Process control is the central nerve system which controls and checks processes during operation. This is also one of Cimbrias specialities.

Different Crops, Plants and Cultures

More than a thousand Cimbria individual machines and turnkey systems are operating around the world - under widely differing climatic and cultural conditions. Seed processing plants, drying and silo complexes, feed mills and port terminals, plants for breweries/ malt houses, coffee and toasting plants, rice mills and a large number of conveying and special-purpose plants. All are working to ensure that processes are as efficient as possible and that the crops are treated as gently as possible - thereby reducing waste and avoiding deterioration in the quality of grain, rice, maize, peas, cotton, coffee, malt, seed grain, feedstuffs, vegetable seed, oil seed and more than a hundred other crops and industrial products. Overall Responsibility With Cimbria having the overall responsibility for machinery and processes, control and logistics, the way is paved for troublefree installation and optimum operation of the plant. The result is improved coordination - and we assume overall responsibility when we integrate the design of process controls and management systems in the projecting of process plants and complete turnkey complexes. The Cimbria Group With its headquarters in Denmark, the Cimbria Group engages worldwide in the development, production and marketing of machinery, plants and transport and turnkey solutions for different types of crop treatment - as well as the treatment of powders and granules. More than 50 years of experience and intense research and development are the driving forces behind our endeavours to further improve efficiency - endeavours which always go hand in hand with grain care. Cimbria Unigrain is wholly-owned by the Cimbria Group.
