Dear Parents,  Transi on at ISM The Oxford dic onary defines transi on as “the process or a period of changing from one state or condi on to another.” Over the next days and weeks we have a number of students and families who are going through their own unique journey involving moving from one school to another and, in many cases, one country, to another. As adults, many of us crave consistency, rou nes and are comfortable in the known. Some mes it can be difficult to imagine the emo ons that our children who are in this state of transi on, are actually going through. We do know that it is cri cal to acknowledge these feelings, to not ignore them or suppress them, and to give us all the space to discuss them. As adults, we can talk about the fact that we may have some mixed feelings about a poten al move. Equally, for those that remain and may have their best friend moving on, it is also important to talk about the fact that we will miss our friends. These are natural emo ons to experience and we do need to talk openly about what is happening. We are in a privileged posi on at ISM in that we have two wonderful guidance counselors who are here for all of us, to support these transi ons which are a part of life in an Interna onal School. Over the next weeks, they will be working with groups of students who are moving to another place and talking about some of these feelings. We know that life in an Interna onal School offers so many benefits and opportuni es. We have truly interna onal classrooms, with diversity of na onality and creed that offers so much richness in our learning, with mul ple perspec ves on many issues. With this however, comes a transient popula on and we know that there are mes when friends leave or we ourselves may be moving.

From ES PE Team
Parents can help in PE by labelling all PE uniforms, swimsuits and towels for elementary physical educa on. Children learn self management skills and grow more independent by taking responsibility for their belongings at school. This task is made much easier for your child (and teachers) when misplaced items such as PE shirts, towels and goggles are labeled. They can easily be returned to their owner if labeled. Some mes children accidentally pick up the wrong shirt when in the change rooms a er swimming lessons, however we can easily clarify the mix up if the items are labeled.

Parent IDs  We are now issuing new parent IDs for the school year 2013/14. To reduce the inconvenience to parents of this replacement pro‐ gram, the old parent ID cards will be valid for school access un l the end of the first semester on December 18th, 2013. The stand‐ ard new parent cards will be issued free of charge. Parents may, however, elect to apply for a smartcard ID which will be usable with the new cashless payment system being introduced into the school for SY 2013‐14. There will be a fee of P250.00 for a smart‐ card which covers in part the registra on fee the school is required to pay for each card issued. The security office is now processing applica ons for the new parent IDs. As we require new photographs for the cards, parents are asked to visit the security office for the taking of their picture. Thank you,

Campus Card Update: Se ng up Individual Accounts vs. Family Account
As you may know, for all those using the Campus Card, money that is loaded onto the individual cards are stored ini ally in your family account. We have been able to work with the developer of the program to allow students to have individual accounts, this will allow students to manage their own accounts and not be connected to another sibling. Please do keep in mind that this will require individual login’s and individual loading of cards. Should you prefer this sort of set up for your family kindly let us know on or before December 15, 2013 so this can be set up in the system and be ready by January 6, 2014. To request, please send an email to With an individual account, parents with campus cards will be a ached to the youngest child's account. Once this is set up, any remaining fund balance will be retained in the youngest child's account, therefore you will need to top up the other children's accounts so they can con nue using the campus card. Please also keep in mind that all purchase history prior to the change will be listed under your youngest child in campus card reports. A notification will be sent to your email once the individual accounts have been set up with the new log-in details.

The ES Art team is having a very produc ve start to the year. We would like to ask for your support in dona ng any newspapers or magazines you have at home as well as center tubes from toilet ssue and kitchen paper rolls.
