Characters…

Character Development

Eagle/Prisoner
The sketches on the right, were simply to understand how to recreate an Eagle as our “Prisoner” in the story is a simple Eagle, who symbolises and embodies Poland.

Character Development

Character Development

Hans Adler
In the early stages, Hans was a Bear, the purpose of his design was to symbol Germany, with the emblem of berlin, being a bear it was only fitting for him to embody this animal, later on this was changed, and on the left of Bear Hans, you’ve got the very Human character that is Hans Adler, we tried to keep the features of a bear, just to add to any element that’ll make his very design symbolic of his country

Character Development

Han’s is a very proud man, We wanted to show this by having a wall in his room dedicated to this. It became more of a character building exercise for the group to fully understand the character.

Character Development

Felix Adler
Like his Father, Felix posture and proportions are meant to resemble that of a Bear

We had many iterations before we got the design right for Felix. We felt using his clothing to allow his proportions to be that of a bear would be the only way to do it without dehumanizing him.

Character Development

A few ideas went round as we tried to decide what clothing fitting Felix, some didn’t fit the era and others didn’t fit the character. We decided to combine a couple ideas from the thumbnailing stage. We also decided it was Important for Felix to have some sort of symbol on him showing his German origin, a Nazi symbol seemed a bit too much, as his character’s meant to be some what neutral in the conflict, we decided on having Berlin’s coat of arms as a badge on his Jumper

Character Development

2D to 3D…

UV’d

After the design was done, it was full speed ahead to the modelling stage. At this point we were all preparing the models to be textured by Uving the necessary parts, all together this seemed to be the most time consuming of all the tasks, but once we got through the hurdle, snapshots were saved and the models were textured in a matter of hours

UV’d

Rigged

The Rig of Felix was pretty basic, his top and bottom half were controlled by a COG (Centre of Gravity) control, without selecting the COG, Felix’s top half and bottom could be moved independently . No Blendshapes were created, this was a decision made in order to save time. The Eagle’s Fix fairly simple, the legs were rigged like finger, and Blendshapes were used

Textured

This is Felix , fully rigged and textured

Textured

Though we wanted to have a black and white short with a hint of colour, we felt it’d be necessary to texture the environment properly, before working on After Effects to get the desired effect

Environment…

Putting it all together

Before texturing, we UV’d all the important parts of the environment, this task was split between the group, before painting on the textures. As the Uving exercise was done, all Object were exported to one scene and scaled down appropriately to fit the size of our main character

Objects in Environment

The Wall of Greatness; as it was later on known to be within the group, was meant to an embodiment of Hans accomplishment, his adventure’s in the army, it was also used to foreshadow some events to come…

We didn’t want to hit the viewers with an Eagle, and have to come from nowhere, so we placed images of Eagles on the wall…

Objects in Environment

The decision was made to have the Cage cover in a sheet in the colour of Germany’s flag, to symbolise that what’s underneath has being claimed by Germany…

Objects in Environment

Objects in Environment

It was important to the relationship between father and son, before this incident, the veiwers don’t see much, but all we give them is happy pictures of Felix and his father…..who knows how drastically their relationship will change after this…
