CARAMEL MACCHIATO

bruggadung!
Named Caramel Macchiato after the drink which fuelled me through most of 2012, and for the way the caramel colour looks like a macchiato (mark/stain) upon the creme and caf colours of this colourway of Katias Jamaica yarn. Its so very yummy. The drink and the colourway. Work it in whichever yarn you please, gauge is not really important unless you radically change the yarn weight and/or hook size. I did increases until the hat reached a diametre big enough to fit my head and give me the flop I needed, approximately 23cm (9).

OF NOTE: - At the end of each round, work a slip stitch into the chain stitches made at the start of the round. I will not list this step in the following notes. Each round starts with a chain which will count as the first stitch of that round.

- I often do a shorter chain than usually suggested as I find the first stitch often looks a little long when I crochet. If this is not an issue for you, please work the chain length best suited for the stitch eg. chain 3 is often recommended for dc, so you could work a ch 4 for the first round (ch 3 for the dc + the 1 ch). - With each of the space ch 2/ch 3, work more or less of a chain in order to keep the piece from puckering/buckling. - From Round 9 the increases cease, if you want a floppier tam, work another increase. For more of a skully, cut out round 9. In either case, the round count and the stitch count needs to be adjusted should you want to keep track. Again, these are more of a compilation of notes than a pattern proper. I have tried to clean it up into more of a pattern format to help ease any confusion.

Pattern Notes Using 3.5mm hook work 13sc into adjustable loop. Tighten. Round 1: Ch3 (counts as 1dc, + ch1 in the count). Work 1 dc in next sc. Ch1. Work *1 dc, ch1* in each sc around. (13 dc + 13 1ch) Round 2: Ch4 (counts as 1dc + ch2), *dc, ch2* in each dc around (13dc + 13 2ch) Round 3: Slip st to first ch2 space. Ch2 (counts as 1hdc + ch2...you get the idea) , 1hdc in same ch2 space, chain 2. *Work 2 hdc in next ch2 space, chain 2* around. If need be, work the occasional chain 3 instead of chain 2 to keep the piece flat. (26hdc + 13 2(3)ch) Round 4: Ch 3, dc in next hdc, ch 2. Work *dc in each next 2 hdc, ch 2* around. Work ch3 to keep piece flat when need arises. (26dc + 13 2(3)ch) Round 5: Ch 3, dc in next dc. Ch3, skip the 2 chain, dc in next 2 dc, ch 3. Skipping the chains of the previous row, work *dc in next 2 dc, ch 3* around. (26hdc + 13 3ch). Round 6: Ch 3, dc in next dc, 3 dc in ch space, 1 dc each next 2 dc, 3 dc in next ch space. Work 1dc in each dc, 3dc in each ch space around (65dc). Round 7: Ch 3, dc in next dc, ch 2, skip next dc, dc in following dc, ch 2. Skip next dc, *dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 2 , skip next dc, dc in next dc, ch 2, skip next dc* around. (39dc + 26 2ch) Round 8: Ch 3, dc in next dc, 2dc in each ch2 space, dc in next dc, 2dc in ch space, *dc in next 2 dc, 2dc ch space, dc in next dc, 2dc in ch space* around. (90dc)
