February 15, 2013 Ms. Ruth Pelham Executive Director Music Mobile, Inc. PO Box 6024 Albany, NY 12206 Dear Ms. Pelham: On behalf of the Albany Roundtable, I am delighted to inform you that The Music Mobile has been selected to receive our Good Patroon award for your efforts to build peaceful communities through music for 36 years. The Good Patroon Award was established by the Albany Roundtable in 1988 to recognize outstanding contributions to the community by institutions and individuals. The Music Mobile teaches children the importance of civility, fosters cooperative behavior, and imparts the value of tolerance. These are the cornerstones of good citizenship at a time when many believe that civic behavior is in short supply. Your message of peace, justice and responsibility, delivered in a fun environment through crafts and music, has resonated through 3 generations. We are so pleased to honor you with the Good Patroon award. Congratulations! The award will be presented at the Albany Roundtable’s Annual Meeting on Wednesday, May 22 at a cocktail reception at National Register-listed University Club of Albany, 141 Washington Avenue at Dove Street. I hope you will be able to attend the reception as our guest. The reception begins at 6:00 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails, with the program starting at 7:00 p.m. After the call to order, we’ll introduce you and say a few words about the Music Mobile’s accomplishments. At that point, we will call you forward to receive your award, and invite you to make brief remarks.
The Visiting Speaker for our Annual Meeting is Jeff Speck, the author of Walkable City: How Downtown Can Save America, One Step at a Time (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, November 13, 2012). Speck is a city planner and architectural designer who, through writing, lectures, and built work, advocates internationally for smart growth and sustainable design. As Director of Design at the National Endowment for the Arts from 2003 through 2007, he oversaw the Mayors’ Institute on City Design and created the Governors’ Institute on Community Design, a federal program that helps state governors fight suburban sprawl. In April, I’ll draft a news release for local media announcing the Good Patroon Award and providing a description of your award-winning efforts. If you would be kind enough to review and approve, I’ll send it out to the press and the Roundtable’s email list. I’ll also include the Good Patroon Award in the invitation which we’ll be printing later in the spring. I can send a bundle of invitations to your office should you wish to invite any of your board members, supporters or friends to attend – please let me know how many you would like me to send. The cost of the reception is $35 per person, and reservations are due by Monday, May 19. Reservations may be made by calling the University Club at 518-463-1151. If you have any questions or wish to discuss the Good Patroon award further, please call me on my mobile phone at 518-428-9348. I’ll look forward to seeing you on May 22 if not before, and again, congratulations! Sincerely, /signed/ Colleen M.
