8. (a) Why are the operating voltages of a cathode ray tube arranged so that the deﬂecting plates are nearly ground potential? (b) The ﬁnal anode voltage of an electrostatic cathode ray tube is 3000volts, the eﬀective lengths of the deﬂection plates are 4 cm and they are kept 1 cm apart. The distance of the screen from the mid point of the deﬂector plates is 32cm and deﬂection voltage is 40V.
