The amode is 1am in diameter and is immersed to a depth of 15cm in the electrolyte (density of zinc = 7 g/cc); electrochemical equivalent of zinc=0.3387 mg/coulomb. [8+8] 2. (a) i. Calculate whether copper will corrode in deaerated CuSO4, pH=0, to form Cu++ (activity=0.1) and H2 =1 atm. What is the corrosion tendency in Volts? ii. Similarly, calculate whether copper will corrode in deaerated KCN (activity CN − = 0.5) of pH=10, assuming Cu(CN)− is formed whose activity 2 = 10−4 i. Calculate the emf of a concentration cell made up of Copper electrodes in 0.1 M CuSO4 and 0.5 M CuSO4 neglecting liquid junction potential. ii.
