Classification Antidiabetic

Therapeutic action

Indication -Adjunct to diet to lower blood glucose with type 2 diabetes mellitus in patients 10 yrs and older; ER in patients 17 yr and older; 18 yr and older for glumetza. -as part of combination therapy with a sulfonylurea or insulin when either drug alone cannot control glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. -unlabeled uses: treatment of anovulation in women with polycystic ovary syndrome; treatment of antipsychotic druginduced weight gain.

Contraindication -allergy to metformin; heart failure; diabetes complicated by fever, severe infections, severe trauma, major surgery, ketosis, acidosis, coma; type 1 diabetes, serious hepatic impairment, serious renal impairment, glycosuria, hyperglycemia associated with primary renal disease; labor and delivery; lactation. - Use cautiously with the elderly.

Side effect
Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, diarrhea, weakness, or a metallic taste in the mouth may occur

Classification Antidiabetics

Therapeutic action

Indication -Oral hypoglycemic (antidiabetic drug), prescribed for type 2 diabetes. It stimulates the pancreas, which helps in more insulin secretion. -For control of hyperglycemia in gliclazide responsive diabetes mellitus of stable, mild, non-ketosis prone, maturity onset or adult type which cannot be controlled by proper dietary management and exercise, or when insulin therapy is not appropriate

Contraindication Contraindicated in patients with diabeticketoacidosis, severe liver and kidney impairment, and hypersensitivity

Side effect GI disturbances, skin reaction, decrease in blood cell counts, jaundice, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach inflammation.
