32-bit and 64-bit Information
o There is no 64-bit version of 9iR2 nor 10gR1 for 64-bit Windows on AMD64/EM64T
hardware
o Running 32-bit applications on a 64-bit operating system is generally referred to as
"Compatibility-Mode" by many AMD64/EM64T hardware vendors. Irrespective of this
terminology, 32-bit Oracle Database server is *not* certified on Windows x64. For the
32-bit Oracle database client, check the certification matrix for more details.
O/S Information:
o Oracle certifies against the specific Microsoft operating system (OS) and, if applicable,
service packs (SPs) stated in the Oracle product documentation. Oracle will support the
use of our products on any later SP or OS security patch as soon as that SP or patch
becomes generally available. Depending upon the severity, quantity, and impact of the
SP or patch-related issues found, Oracle may recommend that customers wait until
relevant Oracle patches have been released before upgrading to a particular SP or OS
patch. Oracle may recommend or discourage the installation of specific SPs or patches
if it will significantly affect the operation of Oracle software, either positively or
negatively. If such a statement is deemed necessary, then Oracle Development will

General Notes For Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition On Microsoft Windows 2003 (Itanium):
Itanium Information
o 64-bit Oracle database software only supports 64-bit for Itanium. Oracle does not
support running the 32-bit database on Itanium.
o Oracle Database release 10gR2 (10.2.0.2), 10gR1 (10.1.0.5), and 9iR2 (9.2.0.8.0) are
certified on Intel Montecito-based systems with Windows Server 2003. The patches
below are needed.
 Oracle patch needed for 10gR2 is documented in bug 5391050.
 Oracle patch needed for 10gR1 is documented in bug 5391619.
 Oracle patch needed for 9iR2 is documented in bug 5656176.
Refer to document 400227.1 for detailed installation instructions.

You will also have to patch your operating system depending on the service pack you
are using:
 Service Pack 1: Microsoft has provided hotfixes for the Montecito platform that
must be applied to run Oracle. Customers and partners should read and appy
hotfixes described in KB Article 924449 and KB article 924897 .
 Service Pack 2: These fixes will be incorporated into this service pack,
scheduled for availability at the end of 2006
o Please follow the Intel Montecito related instructions when installing and running
Oracle Database releases 10gR2 (10.2.0.2), 10gR1 (10.1.0.5) and 9iR2 (9.2.0.8) on
systems based on Intel Montvale or later Itanium 2 processor based systems.
