Home of the Hickory Huskies

Notes from the Principal:

Dear Hickory Families, Happy December! It is amazing to me that we are sending out the December newsletter it feels like school has just begun! We have accomplished so much in our first four months of school, not only academically but in other areas as well. Our students have become diligent in their citizenship and leadership qualities. They model responsible behavior by walking quietly in the hallways, volunteering their time, helping their peers, and displaying kindness and respect for others. I am so proud of each and every Hickory Husky! A HUGE thank you to our community and staff for their continued generosity. They never cease in their pursuit of supporting our students, our community, and each other. We are seeing some great progress in both reading and math with those students who are regularly practicing each night at home. If you havent been as faithful having your kids read and practice their math facts each night now would be a great time to start. It really makes a huge difference! Over the last few weeks our students were excited to learn we had no school due to inclement weather. Please remember to check the district website, sign up for Alert Now messages, or check your local news stations to find the latest news on school closures. Thank you also for all that you do to ensure that your child is attending school daily and is on time. As we near the holiday season, please remember to spend some quality time with your family and friends. Life is so precious; enjoy it to the fullest! Happy Holidays! Best wishes for a healthy, prosperous and happy 2014! Your Partner in Education! Denise Kuhna

COUNSELORS CORNER
Mrs. Welty November 2013
Every month, one student from each classroom is designated as Character Counts Good Citizens of the Month. Students are nominated by classroom teachers for demonstrating the six pillars of character (Caring, Respect, Responsibility, Trustworthiness, Fairness, and Citizenship). Students and their parents/guardians will be honored with an ice cream sundae party and an afternoon of BINGO. Additionally, there will be other surprises for the honorees at this time. The honorees will have their picture taken to be displayed on the bulletin board as well as in the Herald-Mail. Hickory Elementary School recently honored 17 students for exemplifying the character traits of a student with gratitude. The students joined the school counselor, Mrs. Welty and their family members for an ice cream sundae celebration. Next month students will be focusing on the character trait of kindness. The students honored were Skyler Bowman, Jasmine McDaniel, Sophia Escobar, Ticcara Sumlin, Caleb Rohrer, Elijah Simon, Kaila Perry, Airam Santiago, Fiqa Hasri, Anthony Perry, Haley Bui, Keira McKibben, Landon Dieter, Isabella Wegman, Carter McChesney, Mark Aquino, and Noah Cauffman.
