Follow Bilfred Repair procedure. Is it necessary repair WPS for ASME section IX ?

Is it necessary repair WPS for AWS D 1.1 other than as mentioned in 5.26.5? We qualified a WPS based on Section IX and surveyor demands repair procedure for weld repair. As per QW 202.3 same wps can be used for repair, parameters being with in the qualified range. Any other requirements please share. Also the requirement with AWS D1.1 11 days ago Like CommentFollow Flag More Shihab a.n likes this 17 comments • Jump to most recent comments

My PQR is for 4130 with pwht. So no of pwht cycles to be established or not. Also hardness to be established or not? 10 days ago• Like

thank you very much 6 days ago• Like Follow Shihab Shihab a.n • As we know wps & repair procedure both are different. no need to prove bcoz our pqr. MS is just the work (repair) how we wil be carried out.n • billu. 9 days ago• Like Follow Bilfred Bilfred Jose • Shihab . 6 days ago• Like . 10 days ago• Like1 Follow Shihab Shihab a.Follow Gordon Gordon Snieder • Well. But clients usually ask repair procedure as method statement before being carried out any repair. enough. A bridge is not a pressure vessel. It is under stood that the same wps shall be applicable for the repair too. 9 days ago• Like Follow Bilfred Bilfred Jose • @ Rachid . 9 days ago• Like1 Follow Bilfred Bilfred Jose • A519 4130 Q&T choke and kill line in drilling rigs as per section IX. first decide which code you want to use.wps had been proved & approved by concerned tests. so just method statement will do or need to do some test to prove the method statement. And its have a sequence of operations to be perform.

Regardless. Is there any pre-set requirement or need to establish physically. how to establish no of pwht cycles. BUt it is unlisted material in section IX and need addition requirements like PWHT. After each cycle of pwht. your 4130 will go through PWHT to meet 22 HRC after repair so will that extra time in the furnace decrease strength of base metal? It is common to run several coupons at different time at temp in expectation of the repair. I'm done with free engineering advise here. EIT • Rachid. i read pwht cycles can be upto 5 cycles for Q&T steels with mech test requirements. Meaning. 2 days ago• Like2 Follow Gordon Gordon Snieder • The thing about 'free advice' is 'you get what you pay for'. a full set of mechanicals needs to be performed in the pqr. This is done all the time. even nickel content in filler wire. Edmond got it right. Hardness. " need to establish or not is the question" . As API 16C refers to NACE MR0175 for hardness . you need to prove that your additional furnace cycles are qualified. In one technical reading.impact locations . Since no mention of pwht cycle. @ Edmon. Furthermore. So " In my understanding " compliance of Section IX is not enough.Follow Bilfred Bilfred Jose • @ Rachid . EIT • Bilfred. but hardness must be less than 22HRC. whether it is API 6A or 16C. Here my concern is Section IX and API 16C. your statements above are not accurate. 4130 is typically utilized in critical components so be cautious. in order to establish PWHT cycle with hardness limiting to less than 22HRC. .

you're not really a professional engineer are you? Or why would you be so insulting to them? 1 day ago• Like Follow Rachid Rachid Belarbi • We are here to learn and to exchange infos. which does not address 4130 (ASME forbids the use of any material whose strength can be altered by thermal means in one side). But like Boris. 4130 used on X tree is part of API 6L. 1 day ago• Like1 Follow Gordon Gordon Snieder • That's not a bad idea. Now. Au revoir a tous. which leads us to API 1104 for WPS/PQR/WPQ. ASME does not address Cyclic Hydro test. My point is and I would like to be corrected. knock yourselves out. 1 day ago• Like Follow Gordon Gordon Snieder • One last thing. I'm not in business to subsidize your employers. then yes. if the PWHT changes according the different cycles. Good day.If all you QC specialists want to play design Engineer and Welding Engineer on the basis of crowdsourced free advice. a PQR is mechanically tested according to the PWHT ( fluctuations and limit of the essential variables). 1 day ago• Like Follow Craig . not to argue about worthless meaning. The topic is about ASME IX.

you will need to have a qualified WPS that will meet the MRO-0175 hardness requirements and retain the mechanical properties of the base materials which will be part of your Method Statement/Repair Procedure. Regarding the Method Statement/Repair Procedure. Good Luck! 22 hours ago• Like• Reply privately• Flag as inappropriate 1 Follow Rachid Rachid Belarbi • My mistake then! API 6L being a pressure vessel then they re referring to ASME IX for welding qual. Things to know and do before starting the repair: 1. Is this repair on a previously heat treated component? a.Craig Knops • API 6A states welding procedures are to be qualified according to ASME Section IX. . you can still use Section IX to develop and qualify your WPS. you will need to have base metal and welding consumable certificates. Even though A519 4130 Q&T does not have an assigned P-Number. As supporting documentation for your WPS. The document will also describe nondestructive testing requirements along with post heat treatment hardness testing to ensure compliance with NACE MRO-0175. nondestructive testing and laboratory or inhouse testing reports including hardness results. If yes. b. you will need to have a qualified A519 4130 Q&T WPS on hand with the heat treatment required to meet NACEMRO-0175 hardness requirements and retain the mechanical properties of the base materials. this document will guide the welder to assure a successful repair. 2. You may need to prepare several test coupons and heat treat them at various times to ensure you meet NACE MRO-0175 hardness requirements while retaining the mechanical strength of the base materials. Prior to the start of the repair. If no. you will need to have a qualified A519 4130 Q&T WPS on hand with the total number of heat treat hours the component received prior to and after the repair has been made to meet NACE MRO-0175 hardness requirements and retain the mechanical properties of the base materials.

On the basis that for every hydrotest cycle a new PWHT is to be carried on. since it s not addressed by ASME." The confusing part is that they have to go back to API for the hydrotest cycle."Each base material which is not listed in an ASME. And thanks for all the participants! . Again. then a new set of mechanical test is to be applied. Section IX P-number or S-number grouping shall be specifically qualified by the manufacturer.Although they admit that . my mistake over the subject.
