Foreword

This is the apocalyptic issue - since it’s 2012 and all. Some people want to believe that it’s doomsday, some embrace it as a revelation to the real truth and some prefer to hang on to their own worse case scenarios. Whatever! That’s why we’re at OBL5 now because we believe everything is a celebration of who we are and what we want for ourselves. With half the world gone nuts with overlapping politics, religion, social issues and madness it’s a wonder that we are all still alive. In this short & very brief life, let’s get back together and have fun. Julya *** Hello~ So here we are again. Thank you Julz for your patience and putting this thing together. I’m quite happy despite the ups and downs and turn arounds, the 5th one is born. And so the election is around the corner, more & more government owned media is spinning hatred and negativity towards LGBT people. Only yesterday the Ministry of Education endorsed guidelines for parents to identify if their children is gay or lesbian. One of the symptom is like wearing a v-neck or sleeveless tshirt which is quite insane in the membrane. These fossilized ministries should hurry and rot further. Recently we had a monumental court case for the transwomen addressing the section 66 of Syariah Law that criminalize us for being true to ourselves. We had a very good strong case while the plaintiff tried their best by picking on trivial matters. The next hearing will be on 11th October and fingers crossed, anything can happen. Even though we have a strong case, Naturally, they will always use religion to win. The best we can do now is think positive and act wisely. ~<3 Shika

A special supplement for this issue

It all began with the simplest of things as how simple things would go. Somehow, somewhere, someone with power made it all up just because he was not happy. And the first law was passed.

Anyone LGBT or LGBT related were arrested and sent to an island city far far away. A place where no structures, no facilities and no conveniences were available. Soon, the country became colorless, drab and unattractive as though light was taken away.
43

And then another law was passed. Women who did not want to conform to how women should be were gathered up and sent to the island city. Leaving only the timid and frighten ones behind. The ones who didn’t dare retaliate. The ones who didn’t dare make a fuss. The ones who were hidden from sight because they were of no importance to the country’s progress.
44

It came upon another time that yet another law was passed. People who didn’t believe in god were seized. They were rounded up like sheep and sent to the island city. And then those who remained prayed all the time for a miracle. Day and night, they prayed for all kinds of things because everyone was afraid of their own shadows and of things they could not understand.
45

Since there were already so many laws in their establishment another one was passed. Vegetarians did not help with the economy so they were taken in bunches and sent to the island city. Along with that, plants, trees and animals were butchered to make way for more progress. To make way for enormous manmade monuments, always trying to reach for the sky.
46

When independent artists started their DIYs a law was passed to arrest them for not contributing to society. Their music, art and creations were silenced and destroyed. And they too were sent to the island city. Now the people of the country were angry and selfish. Shallow and superficial. Greedy and bigoted. Although they were all religious and willingly conform to traditions, customs and cultures they were not happy. And when people were not happy crime was the only way to express their dissatisfaction.
47

By now, the restless people cheated, lied, swindled, abused and hated one another. But they could not hate anyone more than they hated themselves. And when life became unacceptable, killing only became inevitable. If not themselves, then others.
48

In the end, the entire country was nothing but one Big Ugly. Everything was wasted. And life was just as good as nonexistent. The someone with power who started the laws just because he was not happy was even more unhappy

now. His country, his nation, his pride were falling to ruins and all that was left was nothing more than the idea of elimination. And so it was passed.

49

In the far far away island city the people who were left there to fend for themselves in the wilderness thrived. Since there were no governments, no authorities and no laws to tell them what they can or cannot do they did what came naturally to them. Since no traditions, customs and cultures were there to segregate them they came together as one. Since there was no religion to

frighten them with guilt and the horrors of sin they flourished in their child-like innocence. Since there was no reason to pursue monetary gains and try and outdo one another they lived a simple and humble life. Whenever they could they threw parties and celebrated the joys of being with nature the way all natural things were meant to be. And so, this too came to pass.
