Social Security and SSI beneficiaries aged 18–64 receiving benefits on the basis of disability,
December 2004
In December 2004, more than 9.8 million people aged 18 to 64 received benefits on the basis of disability. About
59 percent (5.8 million) received benefits from the Social Security program only, 29 percent (2.9 million) received
benefits from the Supplemental Security Income program (SSI) only, and 12 percent (1.2 million) received benefits
from both programs.
