COMPOSERS DONT WRITE THE DYNAMIC WE SHOULD PLAY,

THEY WRITE THE DYNAMIC THE AUDIENCE SHOULD HEAR.

GET THE NOTE, THEN THE DYNAMIC BUT STAY IN CHARACTER.

No one will notice a slightly missed dynamic if you hit the note in character, but everyone will notice a slightly missed note if you go for a dynamic beyond your range.

20 REHEARSAL TECHNIQUES THAT INSTANTLY WORK

PART 2 (#11 through #20) 11. 12. 13. CALL AND RESPONSE

THE I LOVE YOU RULE

A repeated phrase by the same instrument/group must be played differently.

BRING OUT DISSONANCES OR THEY WILL SOUND WRONG.

If dissonant notes are played at the same dynamic as the base consonant chord, the dissonances will sound like missed notes. Players must go against their instinct to shy away.

14.

BRING OUT THE MOVING PART OR WELL GET BAND SOUND.

e>q>h>w The stage should sparkle with different instrument sounds; layers or passing tones.

15.

THE MOST DIFFICULT NOTE TO PLAY IS... THE WHOLE NOTE.

16.

LETS EACH FIND OUR OWN SEA OF TROUBLES. (Reference to Hamlet)

Never underestimate the emphasis of one word, or one note.

17. 18. 19. 20.

WHATS HARDER: GETTING GREAT or STAYING GREAT? Teenager Syndrome IT CAN BE PERFECT BUT NOT WORTH REMEMBERING! WHEN WE EACH DO ONE THING BETTER, OUR BAND GETS 100 TIMES BETTER. THE BEST ADVICE I EVER RECEIVED WAS FROM A 2YEAR-OLD.
