Apply for a Smart from the Start Community Outreach Grant in Jan.
Funded by the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation (HWCF), 10 grants of $10,000 will be given to PTA regions, districts and councils to educate families of children ages 3-5 and partner with a local neighborhood community to improve awareness of energy balance concepts. The application deadline is March 28, 2014. Voices for Healthy Kids Website National PTA and the HWCF will host a webinar on the grant requirements, online application process, and existing resources available. It's recommended for most individuals, ages six months and older. Flu season typically peaks in January or February, so it's not too late to get vaccinated for the current flu season! In addition to the vaccine, there are steps you can take to avoid getting and spreading the flu: Wash your hands often with soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand rub. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Avoid close contact with sick people. Practice good health habits (get adequate sleep, exercise, and nutrition; and manage stress). Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Stay home if you have the flu. Learn more about the flu, including symptoms and treatment.

Today's Tip: Are you ready for the No-Diet Diet? Following the MyPlate guidelines isn't really a 'diet' -- It is about developing a healthy pattern of eating.
