St Symeon wa s actually over 325 years old, h aving been kept alive by God . When the ancient Holy Scr iptu res were being tr anslated into Greek, (the Septuagint) he had questioned the word “V irgin” for the Mother of t he Messiah so Arch angel Gabriel not on ly told him that truly a Virgin would bear the Messiah – the Incar nate Son of God – but that St Symeon would live to witness it personally. St Symeon remained at the Temple of Jer usalem all those years, watching the young Theotokos grow up and then bringing Her new born Son to the Temple to fulfill all Old Covenant Laws. Being the oldest of the Temple Elders, St Symeon (and St H ann ah the Prophetess) knew the complete Truth concerning the Vir gin Theotokos, our Lord Jesus Christ and their aged Guard ian, St Joseph t he Betrothed – a most Righteous a nd honest old uncle - who ha d been chosen by God to take care of the young Virg in, Her Vir gin Companions and C hrist. At evening, at

morning and at midday we Praise, Bless and give thanks, and we pray to Thee, O Master of all things, O Lord Who Loves mankind: Direct our Prayer before Thee like incense, and do not incline our hearts to words or thoughts of evil, but Deliver us from all who hunt down our souls. For our eyes look to Thee, O Lord, our Lord, and we have hoped in Thee.
