January 2014

Erie Middle School Tiger Community,

I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable Winter Break. With the New Year, there will be many important and exciting events happening at EMS Congratulations to the team of Auguson Saless, Anders Temple, Nick Cuccaro, and Avery Hamilton. They represented EMS at the St. Vrain Valley Hackathon. Their project was the creation of an app that a mall could use to inform the public of where they are located, sales that are happening, what movies are playing, and even a scavenger hunt to help keep restless kids occupied while their parent shop. Their team took 1st place. Congratulations to this outstanding team. Congratulations to Katelin Hall! Mr. Townsend submitted a piece of her work for a water bottle design contest at the Dairy Arts Center and she won first place! They had a reception in her honor and gave her a water bottle. Nice work Katelin! Things to look forward to in the 2nd semester include; Grade level field trips-everyone has done a great job raising money to support these trips, State Assessment testing in March, Girls Basketball, Wrestling, Track, and concerts to name a few. Thank you for your support in these activities. Parents, please keep us updated with information. If you have a change of phone number, cell number, address, email, etc. Please let us know so that we may keep our systems current. Please visit our school website. Dr. Heide is keeping our Facebook page updated with upcoming and current events at EMS to keep our community informed. The website also has links to teacher pages, activities, events, etc. This is a fantastic way to keep informed of the happenings at Erie Middle School. We use classroom instruction as well as an internet based program called College in Colorado. All students will learn how to sign onto and use the College in Colorado web site. College in Colorado is designed to help students and parents plan for secondary education (Middle School and High School), post secondary education (2 yr. colleges, 4 yr. colleges, or technical schools) including financial aide information and Career choices.
