Inourresearchwefirstlookedtocredibleencyclopediaswhichgavebasicinformationandnumerous externallinksthatledustomoresources.Wewereabletofindseveralprimarysourcesearlyinourresearch, suchastheMcCarthyWelchexchangetranscriptsandlettersfromPresidentEisenhower.Wenextnarrowed ourtopictotheFBI'sroleintheSecondRedScare.Weaimedtoanswerquestionsregardingwhythe governmentandFBIwerecompelledtoridAmericaofcommunists,andhowAmericawasaffectedasa whole.WeconsultedthelocallibraryandacquiredstrongsourcesincludinganEdwardMorrowdocumentary calledTheMcCarthyYearsandthebookManyAretheCrimesbyEllenSchrecker.Next,wedovedeeper intoourprimarysourcestofindevidenceonspecificeventsandpersonalopinions.SincetheMcCarthyera wascontroversial,manysourceswefoundwerebiased.However,wecontinuedtoreadthesesourcesin ordertogainabetterunderstandingandbroaderperspective.Wesynthesizedourinformationintoan argumentoutlineandmadediagramsofourargumentssothatwecouldfindandaddressanyholes.These resourcesgaveusclearseparationinourargumentsthathelpedusorganizeourwebsite.

    Weenhancedthe informationfromouroutlineandputitonourwebsite.Imageswereamplebecausephotographyexisted duringthemidnineteenthcentury,whichmadefindingmediasimple.Aswecontinuedtobuildupourwebsite wecontinuedtoresearchdocumentsthataddtoourargument.Aswenearedtheendofthebuildingprocess, wediscoveredpartswherewedidnothaveenoughinformationorevidence,whichledustoconductfocused researchonveryspecificparts. Weagreedtoconveyourprojectthroughawebsitebecauseitisaccessibletoeditvirtuallyanywhere andprovidesamediumformixedmediaandclearorganization.Wechosepagesthatwouldallowusto providecontext,informationaboutgovernmentandFBIactions,andsignificance,inalogicalandneatmanner. AstheUnitedStateswitnessedtheriseofinternationalCommunistthreatsduringthemid20thcentury, thefearofCommunismsweptAmerica.Thefederalgovernmentfelttheresponsibilitytopreventacommunist overthrowinorderto"securetheblessingsofliberty"andprotectdemocracy.Thisresponsibilityresultedin numerousaggressivegovernmentinitiatives,which,inanefforttoprotectAmericanrights,wenttoofarand infringedupontherightsofitspeople.Americanswhowerefiredorarrestedwereoftenassumedguilty,and theactionstakenbytheFBItoprovetheirguiltwerequestionableandsometimesillegal.DuringtheSecond RedScare,astheFBIexecutedmoreandmorearrestsandinvestigations,itspowercontinuedtogrowintoa nationalthreattotherightsoftheAmericanpeople.
