Dream Street’s Miss Cardiff - FAQ

Q. WHAT EXPERIENCE AND QUALFICATIONS ARE NEEDED TO ENTER THIS HEAT?
A. None! Miss Dream Street is open to both experienced pageant competitors and complete beginners. Coaching is available and any questions can be emailed to dreamstreetbeautycardiff@yahoo.co.uk. There will be a run through on the day so that all competitors know exactly where they have to go and what they have to do. A full schedule will also be provided by email in February 2014.

Q. WHAT IS THE COST TO ENTER?
A. The entry fee is £30. This is to cover the cost of running the event. Most competitors are able to gain sponsorship for all or part of this amount. Guidance on how to find a sponsor can be given. Sponsors will be advertised at the heat as a "thank you" for helping you in your Pageant career.

Q. HOW MANY WINNERS WILL THERE BE?
A. There will be five winners – Dream Street’s Miss Pre-Teen Cardiff (ages 9-12) Dream Street’s Miss Teen Cardiff (ages 13-17) Dream Street’s Miss Cardiff (ages 18-29) Dream Street’s Queen Cardiff (ages 30-45) Dream Street’s Charity Supreme Cardiff – for the contestant, across all ages, raising the most money for charity In addition there will be a Director’s Choice Award, and a Best Pageant Newcomer award.

Q. WHAT DOES THE WINNER RECEIVE?
A. The winner of each age category, the Charity Supreme and the Director’s Choice will receive prizes including - Crown - Sash - Entry into the Grand Final of your category, to be held August 2014 The Best Pageant newcomer will win a crown and sash and eligibility for the UK finals with a discounted fee.

Q. WHAT CHARITY FUNDRAISING WILL I NEED TO DO?

A. All contestants will be expected to raise money for our nominated charity, Arthritis UK, prior to the heat. Suggestions will be made of possible activities. In addition, contestants will be encouraged to sell raffle tickets prior to the event (tickets and details of prizes to be provided by the Cardiff Director).

Q. WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON THE DAY?
A. There will be a run-through in the afternoon, in casual clothes. All contestants will be shown what they need to do and where they need to walk, and given sample interview questions so that they can prepare themselves. There will then be a break before the main event. Doors will open for friends and family from 5pm (TBC). Under 18’s are allowed to have a parent/guardian with them throughout the afternoon. The event will commence at 6pm (TBC). There is a private bar area for contestants and their friends/family and food is available in the main bar downstairs. The rounds are as follows: Round One: Plain White Tee. Contestants walk the catwalk in a white t-shirt and jeans, to judge confidence, poise and potential. During this round there will also be a short question and answer session (3 questions per contestant, contestants will be given sample questions during the afternoon so that they know what kind of questions to expect, but these will differ slightly to the actual questions, for all contestants aged 18+ so that answers are natural and spontaneous). Round Two: Cymru Am Byth. Contestants are encouraged to dress to show their pride in being Welsh! Red and green, rugby shirts, make a dress from a Welsh flag… use your imagination – but please keep it decent! There will be a further Q&A during this round. BREAK Round Three: Evening Wear – long dresses preferred but not compulsory. For Miss Teen and Miss Pre-Teen contestants, dresses must be age-appropriate. After a brief break for scores to be counted and checked, the results will be announced.

Q. WHERE IS THE EVENT BEING HELD?
A. Dream Street’s Miss Cardiff is being held at The Wharf, Schooner Way, Cardiff in their function suite. There is a private bar beside the function room which will be open for

contestants and their friends/families. The changing area will be upstairs and it is respectfully requested that NO men enter the changing area. There will be stalls to browse before the event starts, and during the breaks, and refreshments can be purchased from the function suite bar or from the main bar downstairs. Food is also served in the main bar. There is ample car parking, at a cost of £1 per car which is refunded on purchase of any drink or food.

Q. CAN MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY COME AND WATCH?
A. Of course – we welcome friends and family to cheer you on! Spectator tickets are available at £7.50 each. Tickets MUST be purchased prior to the event, there will be no ticket sales at the door. Contestants under the age of 16 may bring one parent/guardian to support and assist them, but this only permits backstage access – to watch the show they will require a ticket.

Completed entry forms with £10 deposit will secure your place in the heat. The balance of the fee is required by 31 January. On receipt of completed form and deposit, confirmation of your place in the final will be issued along with guidance on finding a sponsor. The full fee is £30. However, the following concessions are available:  Anyone entering with another contestant (i.e. friends/sisters/cousins/mother and daughter) and submitting their applications together are eligible for a reduced fee of £20 each (deposit £10, balance £10) Anyone that has won a title in the Dream Street Christmas Online Pageant is eligible for a reduced fee of £20 (deposit £10, balance £10) Anyone that is entering another Dream Street’s Miss UK Heat in 2014 is eligible for a reduced fee of £20 (deposit £10, balance £10) and will receive a special award at their second heat To encourage as many spectators as possible, to give all contestants support and a great atmosphere, any contestant purchasing 4 or more spectator tickets @ £7.50 each will be eligible for a reduced fee of £20 (deposit £10, balance £10)
