Full-Speed USB Universal Asynchronous
Receiver Transmitter Series
Bus Interface

Industry’s Fastest UART Series with USB 2.0

Compliant Bus Interface
The XR21V1410 (V1410), XR21V1412 (V1412), and XR21V1414 (V1414) are enhanced 1-channel, 2-channel and 4-channel Universal Asynchronous
Receiver and Transmitter (UART) with a USB interface. The USB interface is fully compliant to Full Speed USB 2.0 specification that supports 12
Mbps USB data transfer rate.

The USB interface also supports USB suspend, resume and remote wakeup operations. The V141x operates from an internal 48MHz clock
therefore no external crystal/oscillator is required like previous generation UARTs. With the fractional baud rate generator, any baud rate can
accurately be generated using the internal 48MHz clock. The large 128-byte TX FIFO and 384-byte RX FIFO of the V141x helps to optimize the
overall data throughput for various applications. The Automatic Transceiver Direction control feature simplifies both the hardware and software
for half-duplex RS-485 applications. The multidrop (9-bit) mode with automatic half-duplex transceiver control feature further simplifies typical
multidrop RS-485 applications.

The V141x operates from a single 2.97 to 3.63 volt power supply and has 5V tolerant inputs. Virtual COM port drivers for Windows 2000, XP, Vista,
and CE, as well as Linux and Mac are supported for the XR21V1410, XR21V1412 and XR21V1414.

LT3758 - High Input Voltage, Boost,

Flyback, SEPIC and Inverting Controller
100V Input DC/DC Controller Generates
Positive or Negative Regulated Output
The LT3758 is a wide input range, current mode, DC/DC
controller which is capable of generating either positive or
negative output voltages. It can be configured as either a
boost, flyback, SEPIC or inverting converter. The LT3758
drives a low side external N-channel power MOSFET from
an internal regulated 7.2V supply. The fixed frequency,
current-mode architecture results in stable operation over a
wide range of supply and output voltages.

The operating frequency of LT3758 can be set with an

external resistor over a 100kHz to 1MHz range, and can
be synchronized to an external clock using the SYNC pin.
A minimum operating supply voltage of 5.5V, and a low
shutdown quiescent current of less than 1μA, make the
LT3758 ideally suited for battery-powered systems.

The LT3758 features soft-start and frequency foldback

functions to limit inductor current during start-up and output

The device is available in a small 10-lead DFN (3mm × 3mm)

or MSOPE package.

1.5A High Efficiency Low Dropout Regulator (HELDO)
The MIC38150 is a 1.5A continuous
output current step down converter.
This is a follow-on device to the
MIC38300 in Micrel’s new generation
of HELDO™ power management
devices. The HELDO™ family
provides the benefits of LDOs with
respect to ease of use, fast transient
performance, high PSRR and low
noise while offering the efficiency of
a switching regulator.

As output voltages move lower, the

output noise and transient response
of a switching regulator become an
increasing challenge for designers.
By combining a switcher whose
output is slaved to the input of a high
performance LDO, high efficiency is achieved with a clean low noise output. The MIC38150 is designed to provide less than 5mV
of peak-to-peak noise and more than 70dB of PSRR at 1kHz. Furthermore, the architecture of the MIC38150 is optimized for fast
load transients allowing the output to maintain less than 30mV of output voltage deviation even during ultra-fast load steps. This
makes the MIC38150 an ideal choice for low voltage ASICs and other digital ICs.

The MIC38150 features a fully integrated switching regulator and LDO combination, operates with input voltages from 3.0V to 5.5V
input and offers adjustable output voltages down to 1.0V. The MIC38150 is offered in a small 28-pin 4mm x 6mm x 0.9mm MLF®
package and can operate from -40°C to +125°C.

Features Benefits
 3V to 5.5V supply voltage  Ideal for many lower power rails in use today
 Adjustable output voltage down to 1V  Able to power/address lower voltage rails for newer applications
 Output noise less than 5mV  Provides a very clean signal at the output; ideal for noise
 Ultra-fast transient performance sensitive applications
 Efficiencies up to 85%  Allows for a minimal voltage deviation even during ultra-fast load
 1.5A continuous output/integrated switch steps and reduces output capacitance
 PSRR > 70dB at 1kHz  Less power dissipation in a system
 Thermal shutdown and current limit protection  Easy to use/design, low components count
 4mm x 6mm MLF thermally enhanced package  Good for noise sensitive applications such as RF
 Robust and reliable power device
Applications  Keeps the board size to a minimum, improves reliability

 Easy upgrade from an LDO solution

 Pin-to-pin compatible with the MIC38300
 Powering low voltage ASICs and other digital ICs
 Point-of-load applications

LabCam delivers online training opportunities in a way that recognizes the value of engineers’
time. As easily as You Tube® videos, engineers can quickly load and watch videos from industry
leaders consisting of insights on products, evaluation kit overviews, end-user applications and
more. Each tutorial is up to ten minutes in length and features technology experts, CEOs and/
or peers introducing new solutions or explaining integral aspects of an important product,
solution or application. This free value-added program is packaged for short, informative and
high quality distance learning.

Nu Horizons is proud to present our education and training program, which offers engineers
the opportunity to participate in technical seminars conducted by experts focused on the
latest technologies from our leading suppliers. This program provides higher velocity
learning to help minimize start-up time to quickly begin your design process utilizing the latest
development tools, software and products. Check online for the latest seminar schedule.

Online Learning Nu Horizons Online Learning Center is designed to provide a complete training experience
for engineers — without having to leave the office. New supplier trainings are posted twice

Center a month and range from new product overviews to in-depth technical training and potential
design implementations. These live trainings are recorded and archived for your viewing

In order to simplify the design process, Nu Horizons has created a series of application notes
Application designed to guide engineers through the process of interfacing different devices together.
Using a detailed step-by-step approach, these design guides identify key elements in the design
process. Topics in the application notes are organized by design task and each topic is a
Notes stand-alone section, with a short introduction or overview, followed by the step-by-step design
guidelines. All steps include a sufficient level of detail to provide the designer with relevant
information to proceed quickly and easily from start to finish.

Development Nu Horizons offers a wide range of development / evaluation boards, tools and kits featuring
the latest technology from the most trusted suppliers in the industry. Visit the development
