Interior & Exterior.
Interior and exterior mock-ups show a feature wall with algebraic wallpaper and big, rustic windows allowing natural light. Cosy, warm, vintage, rustic yet with a modern twist using wood and primarily cream decor. I have also added one of the logos to the wall and the exterior signage giving a feel for the atmosphere, location and overall design aesthetic, as well as the concept of parentheses & algebra.

Stock & Colour:
Typefaces, stock choices and colour decisions have been made to reflect the concept, feel and tone of the bar & grill, as well as to create an unusual series of variations which can be played with throughout the menu. Black. Kraft Paper. Handwritten Algebra. Having several options to work with allows different processes and stocks to be usd throughout the printed and web based media. Cost has also affected the stocks chosen, as well as the overall aesthetic co-inciding with the type.

Concept:
Proposed typographic branding, identity and concept for a new, British bar and grill, entitled Parentheses, or (P)2 for short. It is to be located in Leeds city centre, in a similar location to The Botanist, or Red’s bbq. The concept of the restaurant is heavily focused on and influenced by parenthesis and algebra, and the link between the two. Through careful planning and structure a menu system has been devised where by a table’s order, becomes an algebraic equation when written down. The concept has also be applied to the idea of an after thought, or digression through content and the structure and manner in which it is designed.

parenthesis |pərenTHəsis| noun ( pl. parentheses |-sēz| ) a word, clause, or sentence inserted as an explanation or afterthought into a passage that is grammatically complete without it, in writing usually marked off by curved brackets, dashes, or commas. • (usu. parentheses) one or both of a pair of marks () used to include such a word, clause, or sentence. • an interlude or interval: the three months of coalition government were a lamentable political parenthesis.º • in parenthesis as a digression or afterthought. algebra |aljəbrə|noun the part of mathematics in which letters and other general symbols are used to represent numbers and quantities in formulae and equations. • a system of this based on given axioms.

Audience & Tone of Voice:
The target audience for the bar & grill are maturer students, i.e. those graduating, or young professionals (22-30 years, demographic). Even as a venue for food and drinks for friends and families who want to take time out of their working day for lunch, or for those who want to catch up with loved ones in the evening. The prices are relatively cheap, with the most expensive meal at £11.00 which I feel is reasonable for this demographic. Depending on budget, you can splash out, or return throughout the week spending less than £10 per head per visit. The tone of voice of the menu is formal, structured and mathmatical keeping in with the theme and concept of the restaurant, whilst giving a relaxing, informal tone for the environment and surrounding space. Parentheses is designed to provoke thought, and inspire. This is reflected through the design aesthetics and chosen concept, whilst remaining subtly playful.

The web stills show the pages in order, starting with the landing page. Rollovers, scrolling images and social networking links have all been proposed for the website. The design has been kept minimalistic, yet reflective of the concept, branding and identity and the menu’s.

The same principles and information from the Facebook page, has also been added to a newly created Parentheses Twitter account. On both the Facebook and Twitter pages are links to the other social media site also, adding extra publicity and free advertising.

For the ISTD brief, I wanted to expand further, and develop the social network links, which are shown via the web stills. I feel social networking is a very important tool for any business in the modern world, and is taking advice and promotional methods, which other established restaurants and bars currently use. Social Networking for Parentheses, via Facebook & Twitter, has many benefits: 1. Promotion - Can be seen by millions of people nationally and internationally 2. Offers/Deals can be promoted via tweets, Facebook posts 3. Photos from the admin and the guests 4. Location and Opening Times 5. Links to webpage - useful for those who have stumbled onto the Facebook page, for example and want to know more 6. Both can be updated on a daily basis, without the need for re-doing a webpage 7. They are both free! 8. One of the most common methods of advertising at the moment 9. Feedback and reviews can be left 10. Links to other Social Networking sites such as Twitter for more publicity and free advertising

Both the iPad and iPhone version of the website is proposed to be fully responsive in terms of orientation and zoom. It is proposed for links to the Parentheses Twitter and Facebook pages function appropriately. The tab at the top, with three links is a rollover which releases the menu from the bottom, with the three page links on. The menu’s are proposed also as PDFs and the imagery in the background of the homepage is proposed to change every 30 seconds.
