Explore: A Closer Look

Reading: This week, we are reading Yonder Mountain, a Cherokee


Tale. Target Vocabulary: peak, examined, fondly, steep, rugged, pausing, mist, pleaded Vocabulary Strategy: Homophones/homographs. Phonics Skills: Contractions with nt, d, ve. Comprehension Skills: Compare and contrast tell how characters and ideas are alike or different Comprehension Strategy: Analyze/evaluate Think about what you read, and form an opinion about it. Please read in your textbook at least once and study the vocabulary cards for the test on Friday. Read every night and fill in the Reading Log. Return with Parent Signature DAILY!

Writing: New Years Resolutions


We will be writing New Years Resolutions. I cannot wait to see what big plans your child has for 2014. We will also be studying prepositional phrases. There will be a quiz on Friday.

Math: Multiplication
We will learn to multiply by 9 this week. There will be a quiz on Thursday. We will also begin talking about the 7s facts later in the week. Please continue to study all facts nightly.

Science:

Earths Processes We will launch the new year with a study of how the Earth changes. This week, we will look at different landforms of the Earth. We will also study freshwater and saltwater features. The students will be making a landform flipbook that will be collected on at the end of the week for a major grade. Notes from the Teacher * Welcome back! I trust everyone had a safe winter break. I had a fabulous time with family and friends. I am looking forward to a wonderful 2014! Love, Mrs. Windham SUPPLIES NEEDED: Most children neednew Black and White Composition Books for morning Work.
