Muhammad Shafeeq bin Abd Aziz 2PISMP TESL1 Technology in Teaching and Learning- Reflection

In this coursework, students of 4PISMP TESL should plan and describe the procedure about 60 minutes activity based on our topic chosen. We should demonstrate about what activity that is suitable for the teacher to apply in their teaching skills. In this activity, we are divided into pairs. My pair is Muhammad Aizat me Muhammad Shafeeq. Basically, this method is about to help students that have difficulty in their English studies. It means that they have a big problem in understand English words or vocabulary. Teacher here is to be guidance for students in order to understand and try to follow back what have been taught in the class. In other words, we are supposed to teach them as easy as we can and we are allow to used our mother tongue that is Bahasa Melayu as our language of taught lesson. We also have to explain more briefly about what we had done with them as we have to go around and ask them about their understanding of the study. For my group, we had our discussion about a week before the presentation and we have a lot of discussion and there are many advantages instead of disadvantages of doing the coursework. Actually, there are many activities that we can organise but there are a little bit problems that we couldnt make it. So, after a long discussion, we have decided to come out with the three activities that is a story telling, fill in the blanks with the correct answer and build a sentence based on the picture given. For the first activity, I was conducted it as he was the first who began the demonstration. He had done a good job and he also can grab students attention in order to make students understand about what is taught in front. He starts with reading the story according to sentence and student will follow back. If they dont understand, they will ask the teacher in their mother tongue and teacher also must answer in their mother tongue to make them clear about what is happening in that present time, but after the explanation in mother tongue, teacher should try to explain again in English because its clearly show that we are Tesl students that will teach English in primary school. As in earlier and later, the demonstration of the first activity is going perfectly. For the second activity that was conducted by me is filling in the blank with the correct answer. For this activity, students are required to answer about ten questions that

are related to grammar studies. Basically, it is not easy to taught primary students because they are still young and for sure they will play around in the class. So, the role of teacher here is to make them listen to us and try to attract them with some kind of fun activity. Although this activity is just filling in the blank activity, we can change a little bit of the delivered style according to our creativity. For me, I just can make it simple but in future, if Im doing this in my class, I will try to make it as fun as I can. Theres a little bit mistake that Ive made in my presentation. Basically, this activity is quite bored because although its challenging, it can also avoid the slow learner to have a chance to try because they will keep quiet when they dont know anything that is taught in the class. My role here is to help them and explain about the correct answer or if can Im also can ask them personally about their problems. Otherwise, there is no other problem. Last but not least, the activity that took part in this demonstration is construct the sentence based on the picture given. For this activity, there are five pictures that are chosen by Mr Aizat to be the guidance to them. First of all, he asked five students to guess what the picture is about and another five students to construct five sentences. The same situation, they cant directly understand about the picture and Mr Aizat has to explain one by one about the entire sample picture. The five picture selected is actually related to each other because he wants to make a story based on the picture, so, he asked the students about what is actually happen from the picture and they have difficulty to understand and arrange the picture. Mr Aizat helps them to solve the problem and he finished and left the students with the complete taught. By the end of the demonstration, our EDU 3105 lecturer and also our observer on the two days demonstration, Mr Rohaizad Agil give his comment in order to help us if there is pros and cons in doing our coursework. As she had commented at my demonstration, she said that our demonstration is not fully in mother tongue because we are more speaking English rather than speaking our own mother tongue as we are referring to the main ideas in this teaching method. She had also explain to us about being a translator to them is the teaching to make them clear about what has been taught and we also have to apply all the method that is stated in our lesson in class, so that we will know about all the steps to overcome this problems. For the comments from our peers, Zurain, she had commented to my demonstration that is about my instruction is not too clear and she said to be aware because soon we are going to teach primary students, so make sure that our instruction is totally clear. Other than that, Atiqah also come with the opinion that we need to add some animation or picture to make the slides and demonstration more attractive.

From the activity above, we can see that students need to guide as they should know all this kind of thing because they will learn only in class, so, bring them to the correct and proper way to understand about the lesson. Thanks to our lecturer, Mr Rohaizad Agil that has guide us to make this demonstration going smoothly and give his opinion and idea in order to help us succeed in making this coursework.
