We, as the Church of Jesus Christ, are holy and
sanctified through Him. Just as the heavenly Father
in His sovereignty once set apart the people of
Israel for Himself, so we believers out of the Gentiles
have become partakers of this heritage, on the
grounds of the sovereign will of God.

must occur first, and then there would be the revealing of the man of lawlessness. Part 2 of this

he last chapter of the book of
Zechariah may be titled “Sum-
mary of Judgment and Salva-
tion.” This chapter consists
exclusively of the Lord speaking. We
read in the beginning of the book the
statement, “...came the word of the Lord
unto Zechariah.” Then follows the eight vi-
sions, which conclude with chapter 6. Be-
ginning with chapter 7, verse 5, it’s the
Lord speaking all the way through the end
of the book.
Let us now take a closer look at chapter
What “spoil” is being divided, and to
whom? Here I will pass on how Menge
translates this: “Know assuredly a day of the
Lord is to come when the spoil they took
from you will be divided in your midst.”
This is a very powerful statement. In
the first place, “thy spoil” is the intellec-
tual capacity of the Jew, which was stolen
from them throughout the times of the
Gentiles; that’s about 2,600 years.
Moses prophesied what would tran-
spire if Israel was to disobey the com-
mandment of the Lord:
“Thou shalt plant vineyards, and dress
them, but shalt neither drink of the wine,
nor gather the grapes; for the worms shall
eat them. Thou shalt have olive trees
throughout all thy coasts, but thou shalt
not anoint thyself with the oil; for thine
olive shall cast his fruit. Thou shalt beget
sons and daughters, but thou shalt not
enjoy them; for they shall go into captiv-
ity. All thy trees and fruit of thy land shall
the locust consume. The stranger that is
within thee shall get up above thee very
high; and thou shalt come down very low.
He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not
lend to him: he shall be the head, and
thou shalt be the tail” (Deuteronomy

Midnight Call Ministries is a nonprofit missionary organization,
dedicated to proclaiming the entire Bible as the unfailing and eternal
written Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and the unerring
guide for the Christian faith.
The object of Midnight Call is to call people everywhere to Christ,
to proclaim the Second Coming of Christ, to prepare Christians for
His coming, and to uphold the faith and warn of false doctrines.
Midnight Call magazine is available in twelve languages. All work
done through radio, literature and missionaries is supported entirely
by the gifts and free will offerings of God’s people.
WE BELIEVE in the divine inspiration of the whole Bible and there-
with the infallibility of the Holy Scripture, which is God’s Word, and
in the eternal Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
WE BELIEVE Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was conceived of the
Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, and shed His
blood to save mankind. He died and arose bodily the third day and
later ascended into heaven.
WE BELIEVE that the Lord Jesus Christ died in the place of each
individual sinner and that all who believe in Him as their personal
Savior are justified through His shed blood and have become
children of God.
WE BELIEVE that Israel is God’s chosen people, and that the
restoration of the Jews to their own land is the fulfillment of the
Word of God.
WE BELIEVE in the pre–tribulational appearance of Jesus Christ for
the Rapture of His Church (all born again believers).
WE BELIEVE in the immortality of our souls and the resurrection of
our bodies, and in the resurrection of the just and the unjust, the
everlasting blessedness of the saved and the everlasting punishment of
the lost.

The blessings of the Lord are expressed here in the abundance of har-
vest. That was the measurement of riches in olden days. Note verse 44:
the heathen will lend to the Jew, and the heathen shall be the head and
the Jew shall be the tail. That is the exact opposite of what God had
promised through Moses earlier: “For the LORD thy God blesseth thee,
as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou
shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall
not reign over thee” (Deuteronomy 15:6).
There is an abundance of documentation available through the inter-
net, clearly showing that the Jews have been persecuted severely for over
2 ½ millenniums.
Look at today’s world. Who are the greatest contributors toward the
well being of humanity? The answer is indisputable: the Jew. Take a
glance at the recipients of the internationally recognized Nobel Prize,
and you will find a lopsided number of Jews who have won. Yet from
Russia to Spain, from Britain to Italy, the Jews have been persecuted.
Even in relatively recent times, during the Second World War, six mil-
lion Jews were systematically murdered by the Nazi regime under Adolf
Hitler of Germany. Study German history, and you will find that the Jews
were one of the most significant contributors toward Germany’s leading
position in the world in the scientific field. The Jews were robbed of
their reward.
Even in the new colonial countries, Jews were blatantly discriminated
against. In plain words, the nations robbed you: now it’s payback time.
“For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city
shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half
of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people
shall not be cut off from the city” (verse 2). Most Bible scholars place
this, including most unfulfilled prophetic events, in the time period of
the Great Tribulation. I, for one, don’t. The nations of the world, begin-
ning with Babylon, have gathered against Jerusalem for the past 2,600
years. The nations did destroy Jerusalem, rifle the houses, ravish the
women, and lead many Jews captive. This can be documented in the
time span of the Gentiles; that is, beginning with Babylon until our
Again, we must remind ourselves that God is speaking from heavenly
perspectives. When He utters His voice, it is eternal. There is no time
and space in the heavenly realm; the past, the present and the future are
all one.
Here is an example: A respected historian, James Carroll, is quoted in
Jews and Judaism, listed under Anti-Semitism in Wikipedia, “Jews ac-
counted for 10% of the total population of the Roman Empire. By that
ratio, if other factors such as pogroms and conversions had not inter-
vened, there would be 200 million Jews in the world today, instead of
something like 13 million.”
When we read Scripture and compare it with historical facts, then we
must come to the conclusion that Israel has received from the Lord’s
E D I T O R ’ S N O T E

hand double punishment for their sins. That is why we who believe in
Jesus Christ as our Lord are admonished to comfort Israel: “Comfort ye,
comfort ye my people, saith your God. Speak ye comfortably to
Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her
iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD’S hand double
for all her sins” (Isaiah 40:1-2).
If, however, we place this verse in the framework of the seven-year
tribulation, then it is yet to come.
Let us now look at this verse from a logical standpoint, although
logic is not decisive in understanding Bible prophecy. Nevertheless, let’s
assume all the nations of the world come against Jerusalem. At this
time, it is the United States that has the largest military force. As a mat-
ter of fact, the U.S. spends more on defense than the rest of the world
put together. Based on that fact, we must come to the conclusion that
the American military would lead the nations of the world to encircle
Jerusalem with weapons of war, would steal everything they could find
in the houses in Jerusalem, and then rape the women and take the rest
prisoners, leading them into captivity. That is exactly what verse 2 says.
To reemphasize this fact, let’s re-read verse 2: “For I will gather all na-
tions against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the
houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go
forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off
from the city.”
We know all too well that it is against the Geneva Convention, so-
called International Law, to steal private property or to rape women dur-
ing a military conflict. Although this does happen, it is the exception
and not the rule of operation. Therefore, if we decide this to be literally
in the future during the time of the Great Tribulation, then we must ac-
knowledge such a scenario.
“Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as
when he fought in the day of battle” (verse 3). Here we have the Lord in-
tervening. He acts on behalf of Israel.
We are reminded here of the Exodus, when Israel moved out of Egypt
toward the Promised Land. They stood before the Red Sea, and behind
them came Pharaoh’s chosen army to recapture them, leading Israel back
into bondage. Let us carefully read Exodus 14:13: “And Moses said unto
the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD,
which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen
to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.”
Over and again we read in Israel’s history that it was God who fought
on their behalf. He has done so in the past, He is doing it today, and that
is exactly what God will do on that certain day.
“And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which
is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in
the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be
a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the
north, and half of it toward the south” (verse 4).

We already mentioned that these words come directly from God out of
heaven, and Zechariah writes them down for us. I venture to say that it is
an error to attempt to read prophecy chronologically. In this case, it is
clearly illustrated. In verse 3, the Lord fights for Israel, but then in verse
4, He comes to Israel. If we are to understand that chronologically and in-
tellectually, we would say the opposite: He must come first and then fight
for Israel.
What we do know is that when His feet touch the Mount of Olives,
topographical changes will take place. The Mount of Olives will split
from the East to the West, causing a mountain in the North and in the
South, and subsequently, create a large rift.
What is the purpose? “And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains;
for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee,
like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of
Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee”
(verse 5).
We all know that the Lord’s feet stood on the Mount of Olives when He
ascended into heaven, and the message of the angel made it clear that He
will return likewise. This means, His feet shall stand on the Mount of
Olives again. That has not taken place, nor has the Mount of Olives split
in half yet; therefore, the words, “…ye shall flee, like as ye fled from be-
fore the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah” are yet to come.
Where will they flee? The Bible does not give us an answer; thus, we
should not speculate. However, based on Revelation chapter 11, we know
that God will intervene supernaturally. This is recorded in Revelation
12:6: “And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place
prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred
and threescore days.” Furthermore, this is confirmed in verse 14: “And to
the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into
the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and
times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.” We know that this
woman is Israel, for she brought forth a man child who was to rule all na-
tions with a rod of iron. Unmistakably, this is Jesus the Lord returning to
the Mount of Olives, making an end of the Antichrist system and estab-
lishing His 1,000 Year Kingdom of Peace. It will not be ruled by weapons
of war, but by the Lord Himself, who will strictly implement His law,
“with a rod of iron.”
This event—the return of Christ on the Mount of Olives—will be a
very unique day, “And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall
not be clear, nor dark: But it shall be one day which shall be known to the
LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it
shall be light” (Zechariah 14:6-7). Words apparently are not sufficient to
describe what will happen, because suddenly light is no longer light, and
dark is no longer dark. It is neither a day nor a night; it is something we
don’t know. It is only “known to the Lord.”
Next, we come to the second important result caused by the Lord’s ap-
pearance on the Mount of Olives. The first served as an escape, “ye shall

flee.” The second result will make Jerusalem a harbor city, “And it shall
be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of
them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in
summer and in winter shall it be” (Zechariah 14:8).
For a better understanding, let’s read the Tenakh: “In that day, fresh
water shall flow from Jerusalem, part of it to the Eastern Sea and part
to the Western Sea, throughout the summer and winter” (verse 8). Wa-
ter from the Mediterranean will flow into the Dead Sea.
The prophet Ezekiel has more to say about this topographical
change in chapter 47, verses 8-9: “Then said he unto me, These waters
issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go
into the sea: which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be
healed. And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which
moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall
be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come
thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the
river cometh.” In plain words, the Dead Sea shall come to life.
“And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall
there be one LORD, and his name one” (Zechariah 14:9). This is the
fulfillment of the repeated promises that God shall dwell with man.
That’s the time when we will see what Jesus said, “He that hath seen
me hath seen the Father,” or as is written in Ephesians 4:5-6: “One
Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above
all, and through all, and in you all.”
Contrary to man’s desire to destroy Jerusalem, as we have seen in
verse 2, the Lord now declares Jerusalem untouchable: “All the land
shall be turned as a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem:
and it shall be lifted up, and inhabited in her place, from Benjamin’s
gate unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and from the
tower of Hananeel unto the king’s winepresses. And men shall dwell in
it, and there shall be no more utter destruction; but Jerusalem shall be
safely inhabited” (verses 10-11). The Lord is in control, He is King
over all the earth, and Jerusalem is now secure. We may safely say this
is the beginning of the 1,000 Year Kingdom of Peace for Israel. That is
important to emphasize, because the nations and individual people
will yet experience the Lord’s punishing judgment: “And this shall be
the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have
fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they
stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes,
and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth” (verse 12).
There are several theories of interpretation, one of which is a nu-
clear war. However, that does not stand because we are now dealing
with the judgment of God. Here I like to distinguish between two types
of judgment. The first is during the Great Tribulation at the opening of
the six seals, which indicates clearly that this judgment is not man-
made, but comes from heaven: “And the kings of the earth, and the
great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty

men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the
dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and
rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the
throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb” (Revelation 6:15-16). This
documents clearly that the people of the world know from where the
judgment comes because of the statement, “…hide us from the face of
him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb.”
This is not the Battle of Armageddon, nor some type of third, fourth,
or fifth world war or nuclear explosions, but this is direct judgment
from God in heaven.
The second type of judgment upon earth is specifically directed to-
ward those who oppose Jerusalem, and we must emphasize that that in-
cludes the entire world.
Even today, actually for the first time in history, we see all the nations
of the world are unitedly gathered against Jerusalem. This needs expla-
nation. After all, no nation, not even Iran, is gathered physically and lit-
erally with military power with the intention to fight against Jerusalem
today, much less the nations of the European world. But we cannot deny
that all nations, without exception, agree upon one thing: namely, that
Jerusalem should not be the undivided capital of the State of Israel.
That fact qualifies all nations of the world as enemies of Jerusalem; sub-
sequently, the statement in verse 2, “I will gather all nations against
Jerusalem to battle,” is a very precise, up-to-date statement.
Based on these facts, we must come to the conclusion that when the
Messiah comes to Israel, destroys the power of the enemy and sets up
the 1,000 Year Kingdom of Peace, it will not be automatically trans-
ferred to the nations of the world. They will first have to be judged.
We have more information in the book of Ezekiel: “Behold, therefore
I am against thee, and against thy rivers, and I will make the land of
Egypt utterly waste and desolate, from the tower of Syene even unto the
border of Ethiopia. No foot of man shall pass through it, nor foot of
beast shall pass through it, neither shall it be inhabited forty years. And
I will make the land of Egypt desolate in the midst of the countries that
are desolate, and her cities among the cities that are laid waste shall be
desolate forty years: and I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations,
and will disperse them through the countries. Yet thus saith the Lord
GOD; At the end of forty years will I gather the Egyptians from the peo-
ple whither they were scattered” (Ezekiel 29:10-13).
At the end of the judgment, Egypt shall know the God of Israel and
will enjoy the same peace as Israel.
During those days, there will be utter confusion among the nations of
the world, caused by the Lord Himself, as revealed in Zechariah 14:13:
“And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the
LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the
hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his
neighbour.” Such enemy self-destruction is documented in Scripture;
for example, in Ezekiel 38:21: “And I will call for a sword against him

throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord GOD: every man’s sword
shall be against his brother.”
In the meantime, verse 1 will continue to be fulfilled, as we read in
verse 14: “And Judah also shall fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all
the heathen round about shall be gathered together, gold, and silver,
and apparel, in great abundance.” Israel will then be the richest nation
on the face of the earth. For the first time in history, a social system
will be so complete that all poverty will be eliminated. This was proph-
esied in Deuteronomy 15:4: “Save when there shall be no poor among
you; for the LORD shall greatly bless thee in the land which the LORD
thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it.”
The judgment we read of in verse 12 is now applied to the animals
as well. Here we may use modern terms, because animals have largely
been replaced by machines: “And so shall be the plague of the horse, of
the mule, of the camel, and of the ass, and of all the beasts that shall be
in these tents, as this plague” (verse 15).
After God’s destructive judgment of the nations, there will only be a
remnant left. These people of the nations will live under the strict law
of the Lord; they will be ruled with a rod of iron. One of their duties
will be to participate in the feast of tabernacles in Jerusalem. If they
neglect to do so, that nation will not receive rain.
Unfortunately, most modern people today do not realize that rain is
the element absolutely essential to sustain life on earth. When there is
no rain, there is no food; whether vegetation or animals, life on earth
ceases to exist without rain.
The Lord’s Law will be enforced; thus, we must come to the conclu-
sion that the people of the nations who enter into the 1,000 Year King-
dom of Peace are not saints. They are not saved by the blood of the
Lamb, but they are placed under a righteous law system, which they
cannot oppose. However, those that do oppose will die. For that rea-
son, it is my personal understanding that at the end of the 1,000 Year
Kingdom of Peace, the world will be populated by saints only.
Isaiah 65 speaks of the 1,000 Year Kingdom of Peace, where we find
the famous words: “The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the
lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s
meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith
the LORD” (verse 25). But it also speaks of judgment: “…for the child
shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years
old shall be accursed” (verse 20b).
Now we come to the last two verses, which we must read as one: “In
that day shall there be upon the bells of the horses, HOLINESS UNTO
THE LORD; and the pots in the LORD’S house shall be like the bowls
before the altar. Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holi-
ness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and
take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no
more the Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts” (Zechariah

The words “HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD” were reserved for the High
Priest. It was part of his consecration to the Lord. We read in Exodus
28:36: “And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like
the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD.” Here in Zechariah,
holiness unto the Lord is engraved “upon the bells of the horses.” That
means there is a continuous ringing of the bells, reminding even the
horses, “holiness unto the Lord.” We may simply say this is applicable to
the industrial world at that time.
Even all the utensils in Jerusalem and Judah come under the banner of
“HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD.” For the first time, there is going to be
perfect Old Testament sacrifice unto the Lord God of heaven.
Jerusalem will then exclude everything that is foreign; nothing that
does not bear the words, “HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD” will enter
We have a confirmation in the New Testament: “And there shall in no
wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh
abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s
book of life” (Revelation 21:27).
Now, for the first time in Israel’s history, the words found in Deuteron-
omy 14:2 will be fulfilled: “For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy
God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself,
above all the nations that are upon the earth.”
The message of the book of Zechariah is addressed to the entire world.
During the times of the Gentiles, approximately 2,600 years, the world
collectively failed to respect the blessings and the honor God gave to the
Jews in an unconditional covenant. The Jews have been accursed. They
were despised, rejected, persecuted, and too often killed. That is why in
the beginning of the book of Zechariah we read, “And I am very sore dis-
pleased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased,
and they helped forward the affliction” (Zechariah 1:15).
For the last 2,000 years, the Gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ
the Lord has been proclaimed all over the world, but only a small rem-
nant have accepted the message, the message of the cross, the message
of death. The overwhelming majority within Churchianity continues to
proclaim the benefits of the flesh through the Gospel, but that is a par-
tial gospel; it is definitely not the whole Gospel, which clearly states,
“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). The
message of the Gospel says that I cannot please God under any circum-
stances, that I must die to self and be born again into a new creature,
and that this new creature in Christ is to rule my old nature until the
day I die. That is the good news, the Gospel of salvation, the Gospel of
For Israel, as we have seen throughout this book, judgment is pro-
claimed as well. The reason? Because “The LORD hath been sore dis-
pleased with your fathers” (Zechariah 1:2). But Israel’s 2,600 year
period of judgment will end in absolute and unconditional, “HOLINESS

Just as the name of Jesus is “above every name” (Philippians 2:9), so His Bride-Church,
which He bought with His precious blood, and whose head He is (Ephesians 1:22), also
has an excelling position.
n Hebrews 3:1-6 we read, “Wherefore, holy
brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, con-
sider the Apostle and High Priest of our profes-
sion, Christ Jesus; who was faithful to him that
appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his
house. For this man was counted worthy of more
glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded
the house hath more honour than the house. For
every house is builded by some man; but he that
built all things is God. And Moses verily was faithful
in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of
those things which were to be spoken after; but
Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are
we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing
of the hope firm unto the end.”
Called to Glory
In this text, we find the statement that Jesus Christ
was counted worthy of more glory than Moses. The
Bible speaks with all clarity of the fact that Jesus is
the greatest, greater than the angels, greater than
Moses, greater than Aaron, greater than Joshua,
greater than David, greater than Jonah, greater than
Solomon, etc. Let us consider the argument of the
writer to the Hebrews, why Jesus was counted wor-
thy of more glory than Moses, “Wherefore, holy
brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider
the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ
Jesus” (Hebrews 3:1).
First, it is said here that we, the Church of Jesus
Christ, are holy, sanctified. Chapter 2 of the letter to
the Hebrews speaks of the fact that Jesus is the one
who sanctifies, and that the Church, the believers in
Christ, are sanctified through Him (verse 11). So it
is consequently right to call us “holy” in the Scrip-
tures. Moreover, it says in Hebrews 10:14, “For by
one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are
sanctified.” We should not boast of this, for we do
not deserve it; this fact should rather humble us and
make us thankful. In all our requests and petitions,
we should never forget to give thanks!
Hebrews 3:1 calls us further, “partakers of the
heavenly calling.” God’s children are chosen, set
apart and destined for glory. They have a goal before
their eyes that cannot be expressed in words. A
mountaineer has the peak before his eyes, whether
he will ever reach it or not. Those who belong to the
Church of Jesus Christ, however, the foundation of
which is Jesus Christ, have the cross of Calvary be-
fore their eyes. Not only do they have the cross be-
fore their eyes, but also they will reach the goal of
indescribable and eternal glory, because God has
called them to this irrevocably in and through His
Son, Jesus Christ. Just as the heavenly Father in His
sovereignty once set apart the people of Israel for
Himself, so we believers out of the Gentiles have be-
come partakers of this heritage, on the grounds of
the sovereign will of God (compare, for instance,
Ephesians 3 and Galatians 3).
In conclusion, it says in Hebrews 3:1, “…con-
sider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession,
Christ Jesus.” Was the Lord Jesus also an apostle?
Yes, because “apostle” can be translated as ambas-
sador or messenger. Jesus Christ was sent out by His
Father with the message of reconciling the lost
world with the heavenly Father. Jesus is therefore an
ambassador of the heavenly Father, and a messenger
to the whole world (cf. John 17:18). In particular, of
course, for His Church, to whom He had proclaimed
and revealed the Father-God. Jesus Christ is also the
reason for, i.e. the foundation of, the Church (cf.
1 Corinthians 3:11-15). Without Jesus, there would
be no Church. Jesus is the cornerstone of the
Church, “…built upon the foundation of the apos-
tles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the
chief corner stone” (Ephesians 2:20). Jesus is also
the “firstborn” of the Church (Romans 8:29) and its
“head,” “And hath put all things under his feet, and
gave him to be the head over all things to the
church, which is his body, the fullness of him that
filleth all in all” (Ephesians 1:22-23, see also 4:15).
Further, Jesus is called the “High Priest of our
profession.” And Jesus is indeed the true High Priest
who represents His Church, i.e. His own, before the
heavenly Father. “Seeing then that we have a great
high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the
Son of God, let us hold fast our profession” (He-
brews 4:14). Not only did Jesus, like the high priest
under the old covenant, enter through the curtain
into the Holy of Holies once a year, but He also
“passed into the heavens.” At His death on the cross,
the curtain was torn in two (cf. Luke 23:44-46),
which separated the Holy of Holies from the sanctu-
ary. Now the Son of God sits at the right hand of the
Majesty on high and intercedes for us, not just once

a year, but every day anew. Through His “once and
for all and not to be repeated sacrifice,” the Son of
God atoned for our sin with His own blood. We read
in Hebrews 9:11-12, “But Christ being come an high
priest of good things to come, by a greater and more
perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to
say, not of this building; neither by the blood of
goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in
once into the holy place, having obtained eternal re-
demption for us.”
Jesus—Greater than Moses or Aaron
As an apostle or ambassador, Jesus speaks to us in
the name of the Father, and has proclaimed and re-
vealed Him to us. As High Priest, the Son of God, Je-
sus Christ, speaks to the Father in the name of His
Church. Jesus Christ is the only mediator between
God the Father and man, for both sides, “For there
is one God, and one mediator between God and
men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ran-
som for all” (1 Timothy 2:5-6). Jesus as an apostle is
the mediator between the Father and His Church,
and as the High Priest of His Church He represents
it before the Father.
When Jesus is described as an apostle in Hebrews
3:1, then this is also a reference to Moses and Aaron.
The first high priest to be instated by God was
Aaron. Jesus is called the true and perfect High
Priest, however, and is therewith higher, i.e. greater,
than Aaron. Jesus is the fulfillment of Aaron and the
whole priesthood.
Moses was God’s ambassador. As God’s speaker
(apostle), he was given the law and brought it to the
people. Moses was the mediator of the old covenant,
and to whom God spoke as to no other man, “And
when Moses was gone into the tabernacle of the
congregation to speak with him, then he heard the
voice of one speaking unto him from off the mercy
seat that was upon the ark of testimony, from be-
tween the two cherubims: and he spake unto him”
(Numbers 7:89). “My servant Moses is not so, who
is faithful in all mine house. With him will I speak
mouth to mouth, even apparently” (Numbers 12:7-
8). The text in Hebrews 3:2 refers to this exact text
when it says of Jesus, “Who was faithful to him that
appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his
Moses doubtless had a very important place; he
is honored by all three monotheistic world religions.
Yet Jesus is “worthy of more glory than Moses” (He-
brews 3:3). Why? Just as Moses was faithful over
the whole house of Israel and the Tabernacle, so or
far more Jesus has been put over His Church. Moses
interceded for the people of Israel, even when they
repeatedly fell into sin, and even when they made a
golden calf, worshiped it and sacrificed to it. With
this disobedience and idolatry, Israel incurred the
wrath of God, but Moses was faithful to his people,
and interceded as their mediator before the almighty
and holy God (cf. Exodus 32:7-14). And like Moses,
no, far more, Jesus is and remains faithful to His
Church, forever and ever! God will not let go of any-
one who has become a child of God by receiving Je-
sus Christ as his Lord and Savior and taken Him
into his heart in His function as the substitutionary
Lamb of Calvary (John 10:27-29).
Moses built the Tabernacle according to the
model that God showed him on the mountain, on
His orders, as His servant. Aaron also carried out the
duties of the high priest as a servant of God. But the
Tabernacle itself, as also the service of the high
priest, were solely the work of God: He planned, de-
signed and called people to carry out His plan. In all
their greatness, exaltation and faithfulness, Moses
and Aaron were “merely” servants of God and not
on par with God, far less were they God Himself.
And here we come to the decisive difference be-
tween them and Jesus Christ, of whom it says in He-
brews 3:3-6, “For this man was counted worthy of
more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath
builded the house hath more honour than the
house. For every house is builded by some man;
but he that built all things is God. And Moses verily
was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testi-
mony of those things which were to be spoken after;
but Christ as a son over his own house; whose
house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the
rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.” Moses was

faithful over the Old Testament house, the Taberna-
cle and the people of Israel. Now the letter to the
Hebrews speaks of the fact that Jesus is the Son over
“His own house.” Moses and Aaron were servants
in the house of God, but it was not their own house.
Jesus, on the other hand, is appointed over His own
house. This is a great difference, for this house is not
made of canvas or stones; it is not a cathedral or
dome. No, all who have come to believe in Jesus
Christ as their Redeemer and Lord, the living
Church of God, are this house, “…whose house we
are, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing
of the hope firm unto the end” (Hebrews 3:6).
A Habitation of God through the Spirit
Concerning the New Testament house of God, Paul
wrote to his spiritual son, Timothy, “…that thou
mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself
in the house of God, which is the church of the liv-
ing God” (1 Timothy 3:15). The letter to the Eph-
esians even speaks of the fact that all born-again
Christians comprise the new, spiritual temple, “In
whom [Jesus Christ] all the building fitly framed to-
gether groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: in
whom ye also are builded together for an habitation
of God through the Spirit” (Ephesians 2:21-22).
Children of God are called to eternal life. Even if
our body, the “outward shell” is destroyed, we have
eternal life in us. What an inconceivable miracle of
the grace of God! Should this not drive us much
more to fear, revere and be grateful to God?
Both the Tabernacle and the Temple in the Old
Testament were merely a foreshadow of the future
house of God: His Church. It is as with the priestly
sacrifices, which foreshadowed the “once and for
all” sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God on
Calvary’s cross. In principle, the Church of God,
comprised of Jews and Gentiles, is the fulfillment of
the Old Testament, the fulfillment of the counsel of
God. The Church portrays fulfilled prophecy. The
Tabernacle, as also the Temple, have become super-
fluous. Why? Because the Holy Spirit lives in the
Church. All the sacrifices are no longer necessary.
Why? Because Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself “once
and for all” (cf. Hebrews 9:24-28). And this volun-
tary and all-embracing sacrifice is present in the
Church daily: the cross of Calvary! In the Church
the victory of God is already revealed—in and
through His Son Jesus Christ.
Hold Fast, Firm to the End!
Lastly, we are encouraged to hold fast to the end, not
to let go of what we possess, and to persevere in the
Word of God, “…if we hold fast the confidence and
the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end” (He-
brews 3:6). If we are truly born again and therefore
are “the house of God,” i.e. a temple of the Holy
Spirit, then we need to be worthy of this high call-
ing. It should be a matter of course for children of
God to hold fast to the basic statements of the Holy
Scriptures, especially to Jesus Christ, “the author
and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2), the “cor-
nerstone” (Ephesians 2:20ff).
A church where Jesus Christ is not at the center is
not worthy of being called “a church of the living
God,” for in a true Christian church:
• The Word of God should be proclaimed, taught,
kept and practiced
• The nature of God should be revealed
• And God should be worshiped and glorified.
Further, as members of a local church, we are re-
quired to hold fast to the promises of God, to trust
His Word and to look to the future with joyful
hearts. What an eternally glorious future awaits us
(cf. 1 Corinthians 2:9)! When we remember that we
Further, as members of a local church, we are required to hold fast to the promises of God, to trust His Word and

are the “house of God” here on earth and repre-
sent our Creator-God, it is fully inappropriate to
go around looking like the hunchback of
Notre Dame after a visit to the dentist!
We should rather rejoice that we belong to
the Lord Jesus, that we are bought with His blood
and one day will be with Him forever (1 Thessaloni-
ans 4:17 and John 17:24).
Paul wrote to the Philippians from the
prison in Rome, where he really had
no reason to rejoice, “Rejoice in
the Lord always: and again I say,
Rejoice” (Philippians 4:4). Al-
ways, and not just when we are on
“cloud seven”! This does not mean an artificial joy,
but a joy that comes from the heart and has its roots
in Jesus Christ.
Why do we, as born-again Christians who belong
to the “Church of the living God,” have reason to re-
joice and be confident? With somewhat different
words, let me say it again: because our eyes are not
on the present with all its cares and worries, CO2
levels and climate change, this and that. We must
obey the command, “Be careful for nothing; but in
every thing by prayer and supplication with thanks-
giving let your requests be made known unto God”
(Philippians 4:6). Why? So that “the peace of God,
which passeth all understanding, shall keep your
hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (verse 7).
No, as born-again Christians, we have our eyes on
the future and therefore we have a goal before our
eyes: the glory and presence of God and Jesus
Christ. A Christian should not look back on sins he
has committed, wondering whether everything is re-
ally in order with the Lord. If he does look back,
then this should only be out of gratitude to God,
who has made everything wonderfully new in his
life: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new
creature: old things are passed away; behold, all
things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
In Hebrews 3:6, we read, “…if we hold fast the
confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto
the end.” This does not mean some de-
ceptive hope, because it is grounded on
the true Word of God. This is why this liv-
ing hope is connected with assurance of salva-
tion, the firm confidence that all the promises of
God in the Bible really are true, and therefore
also the unmoveable faith in waiting for
the meeting with the Lord Jesus, who
died, rose again, ascended into
heaven and really will return to
take His Church to Himself in
the kingdom of heaven (cf.
John 14:2-3 and 1 Thessalonians
We must cling to this living hope confi-
dently and steadfastly up to the end. When a local
church questions the elementary statements of the
Holy Scriptures, and also no longer awaits the com-
ing of the Lord, it loses every legitimate reason to be
called the “church of the living God,” for it is only a
lifeless shell, like the temple in Jerusalem once was
when the glory of God had departed from it (cf.
Ezekiel 10:18).
Dear child of God, do not cast away your confi-
dence, which has a great reward, as it says in He-
brews 10:35-37, “Cast not away therefore your
confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have
done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
For yet a little while, and he that shall come will
come, and will not tarry.” However the storm may
be raging around us, let us cling to the unsearchable
riches which God has left us: His Word in the Old
and New Testaments, which reach their climax in
Jesus Christ, the “author and finisher of our faith;
who for the joy that was set before him endured the
cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the
right hand of the throne of God. For consider him
that endured such contradiction of sinners against
himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds”
(Hebrews 12:2-3).

Jude: Conditions Revealed for
Last-day Christians
The book of Jude is small—one chapter 25 verses long—tucked in just
before the Revelation. Just as Genesis is the first book of the Bible and
Revelation the last, the position of Jude is equally significant. It holds a
spot that parallels Esther in the Old Testament.
B y W i l f r e d H a h n
he Book of Esther is the last
of the historical books for
the Jews in the Old Testa-
ment. It was meant to be prophetic
foreshadowing of the future his-
tory of the Jewish people, largely
taking place over the “times of the
Gentiles.” Immediately following is the
Wisdom Literature, and then the
The book of Jude holds a similar an-
chor in the New Testament, providing
the last instructions for the Church Age.
Prophetic in character, it foreshadows
the fate of the Church and Christians for
the period between the epistles and the
3rd chapter of Revelation.
Jude, the half-brother of Jesus, wrote
this epistle with one main objective in
view: “[…] That ye should earnestly
contend for the faith which was once
delivered unto the saints” (Jude 1:3).
Why? Because: “[…] There are cer-
tain men crept in unawares, who were
before of old ordained to this condem-
nation, ungodly men, turning the grace
of our God into lasciviousness, and
denying the only Lord God, and our
Lord Jesus Christ” (verse 4, KJV).
Jude is writing expressly to prepare
the Church against teachers of false-
hoods, corruptions and the fleshly
philosophies of mankind. “Contending
for the faith” is the very line of defense
that falls when the gospel is distorted
and corrupt doctrine is adopted.
We can see here that the Church was
attacked very early by false teachers who
had “slipped” into its ranks even while
the apostles were still alive. These false
teachers are sneaky and devious … not
going in unto the sheep by the front
gate. Jesus warned: “I tell you the truth,
the man who does not enter the sheep
pen by the gate, but climbs in by some
other way, is a thief and a robber” (John
10:1). Because of their slipperiness and
subtle ways of encroaching upon the
Church, Jude then lays out a list of diag-
nostic characteristics by which to recog-
nize them, lest the Christian be caught
But while Jude is responding to what
he sees in his day, he is certainly also
covering the conditions of the very last
days. He says: “But, dear friends, re-
member what the apostles of our Lord
Jesus Christ foretold. They said to you,
‘In the last times there will be scoffers
who will follow their own ungodly de-
sires’” (verses 17-18, NIV).
Following Jude’s introduction, two
structures are then carried throughout
the rest of this book as of verse 5:

The direct actions of 10 persons, entities
or groups are named, besides the false, cor-
rupt teachers that play a role in the battle
for the truth of the gospel. Each of these
factors mentioned is prophetically signifi-

18 characteristics that help to identify
false teachers that “[…] deny Jesus Christ
our only Sovereign and Lord” (verse 4).
To no surprise—as Scripture always
corroborates itself in various ways—the
numbers of “10” and “18” are aptly sym-
bolic. “18” is the sum of three “6’s.”
Three times the number of man signifies
the peak significance of an apostate, hu-
man religion or system (i. e. 666). In the
Bible, the number “3” often signifies
spiritual or religious significance. In the
case of a humanist apostasy, the number
“18” then would represent its fullest
perversion. Apostle Paul, when listing
the characteristics of ungodly people
during the apostate “perilous times” in 2
Timothy 3, also mentions exactly 18
The number “10” is also significant in
the Bible. It symbolizes a type of “sys-
tematic” or “program” completeness.
This number breaks down to a sum of 6,
3 and 1. The symbolism of the first two
numbers has already been reviewed. The
“1” signifies the perfect finality or per-
son. You will see this when we list the
10 constituents of this group.
Let’s then first turn our attention to
this collection of 10 persons (or groups)
and attempt to interpret any prophetic
implications they may foreshadow for
the “last days.”
1. “[…] The Lord delivered his peo-
ple out of Egypt, but later destroyed
those who did not believe” (verse 5).
Prophetic Parallel: Israel is returned to its
land in the last days—delivered from out
of the world, as opposed to Egypt—yet
most do not believe in their Jehovah and
many will be destroyed in the coming
Great Tribulation (Jacob’s Trouble).
2. Angels (in their fallen state,
demons) are mention next in verse 6.
“And the angels who did not keep their
positions of authority but abandoned
their own home—these he has kept in
darkness, bound with everlasting chains
for judgment on the great Day.”
Prophetic Parallel: Disobedient angels
(demons) who originally took unto them
“the daughters of men” (Genesis 6:2, KJV)
and corrupted mankind in the age of Noah
(and then were bound up), foreshadow an-
other demonic attack upon humanity in
forms of deceiving demons and possibly in
manifested physical form during the Tribu-
lation. In Revelation 12, we read that “[…]
Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he
was cast out into the earth, and his angels

responding to
what he sees in
his day, he is
certainly also
covering the
conditions of the
very last days.
He says: “But,
dear friends,
remember what

our Lord Jesus
Christ foretold.
They said to you,

there will be
scoffers who will

Jude: Conditions Revealed for Last-day Christians
were cast out with him” (verse 9).
While that event specifically takes
place in the Tribulation Period,
several New Testament authors
(including Jude) warned that in
the last days many deceiving doc-
trines, taught by demons, would
make their way into the Church.
We see the “stealth” of these con-
ditions today. Many Christians are
not able to recognize these false
teachers for what they are.
3. Sodom and Gomorrah: “In a simi-
lar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the
surrounding towns gave themselves up
to sexual immorality and perversion.
They serve as an example of those who
suffer the punishment of eternal fire”
(verse 7).
Prophetic Parallel: In the last days, that
there would be a prevalence of immorality
to the point demonstrated even in Sodom
and Gomorrah. There, sexual perversion
was publicly endorsed to the extreme of
flaunting and aggressive militancy. Those
that did not want to participate were even
subject to physical danger. We already see
such conditions today.
4. Archangel Michael is mentioned
next: “But even the archangel Michael,
when he was disputing with the devil about
the body of Moses, did not dare to bring a
slanderous accusation […]” (verse 9).
Prophetic Parallel: Michael, who is the
Archangel of the Jews, is disputing with the
world run by the Devil over the right of Is-
rael to exist. Michael serves a special role
for the Jews, as is confirmed by the prophet
Daniel. “At that time Michael, the great
prince who protects your people, will arise”
(Daniel 12:1). Even though the Devil wants
a dead race of Israelites, Michael does not
slander him, but leaves this task to the
Lord. Indeed today, there can be no doubt
that Satan is working very hard to make Is-
rael a dead body, both physically and spiri-
tually. To this point, Israel is spiritually dead,
awaiting the event described in Ezekiel 37
when they would be filled with the Spirit.
5. “Woe to them! They have taken
the way of Cain” (verse 11). What is the
way of Cain? It is the path of man doing
what is right in his own eyes. It also sig-
nifies the attempts of man to create his
own righteousness through his own
achievement and toil. It is the opposite
of grace, which is salvation freely given
and undeserved.
Prophetic Parallel: Today, the entire global-
ized world is represented by Cain. Human-
ism reigns. Systems and agencies such as
the United Nations, the International Crimi-
nal Court, the World Health Organization
and so on, believe that by virtue of
mankind’s toil, a society of peace and
goodness can be created (so humanists
think). Jesus said otherwise, “There is none
good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt
enter into life, keep the commandments”
(Matthew19:17, KJV). Even so-called Christ-
ian churches have endorsed or joined simi-
lar movements. The rapidly increasing
influence of Reconstructionism (Dominion
Theology) tangentially falls into this cate-

is one of the greatest errors being per-
petuated today that most people do not
see. I have called it the “Babylon Occlu-
sion” (See Midnight Call magazine, July
2007). Balaam was guilty of prophesying
for a price. He oriented his sights to
money and materialism, mixing it with
the precepts of his religion. Money had
the upper hand.
Prophetic Parallel: Without a doubt, money
is the highest god in the systems of global-
ized man. The merging of faith and money
is nearly complete. There are various indi-
cations of this also in the so-called Christ-
ian church, including a prevalent
Prosperity Gospel. The world is already far
advanced on the road to the final ecumeni-
cism shown in Revelation 17-18, where
world polity, economics and a substitute
Christian faith will be merged into one.
7. “[…] They have been destroyed in
Korah’s rebellion” (verse 11). Korah, a
Levite, and some 250 eminent Israelite
leaders were guilty of trying to set them-
selves up as being equal to the station of
priest. They challenged the God-elected
leadership of Moses and Aaron. They
judged themselves to be holy and wor-
thy. It was a power struggle and repre-
sented total disregard for spiritual
authority. They effectively were appoint-
ing themselves to a position of power.
Prophetic Parallel: Today we have the con-
dition of Korah in its most extreme form,
more blatant than perhaps ever in the
Church Age. For one, the largest religious
organization in the world, widely consid-
ered to be Christian, has set itself up as the
very vicar of Christ. The Roman Catholic
Church has appointed itself as the neces-
sary intermediary to salvation, also pre-
suming to set up His kingdom on earth. It
has challenged the very position of Christ.
This is Korah’s rebellion at its most extreme.
Similar rebellions are also witnessed in
Protestant sects. Various self-appointed
prophets and apostles presume to speak
on a level equal in authority to Christ and
the Holy Scriptures.
8. “Enoch, the seventh from Adam,
prophesied about these men: ‘See, the
Lord is coming with thousands upon
thousands of his holy ones to judge
everyone, and to convict all the ungodly
of all the ungodly acts they have done in
the ungodly way, and of all the harsh
words ungodly sinners have spoken
against him’” (verses 14-15).
Prophetic Parallel: Enoch was the first ex-
ample in the Bible of someone being
“snatched away” … in other words, rap-
tured. Here, he is shown as not only fore-
shadowing the pre-tribulation Rapture, but
also the post-tribulation return of Christ
with the saints, as the next two points con-

of his holy ones to judge everyone […]”
(verses 14-15).
Prophetic Parallel: These are the saints of
old as well as those raptured, who come
back with Christ to vanquish the ungodly,
meeting them on the plains of Megiddo.
10.`“[…] The Lord […]” (verse 14).
Prophetic Parallel: This is Jesus Christ, God
Himself … “the One who is good,” return-
ing to set up the Millennial Reign.
Having reviewed the list of persons
and/or groups, we note the oft occurring
6-3-1 distribution noted earlier, whose
sum is the number 10. There are six
names representative of man and his re-
lations—“his people out of Egypt” (Is-
raelites), Enoch, Cain, Balaam, Korah,
and the people of “Sodom and Gomor-
rah and surrounding towns.”
The group of spiritual, non-physical or
of non-human origin are the “thousands
upon thousands” of saints (they have

single unity of perfection.
The Objective: Identifying the False
Now, we list the characteristics of the
false teachers, their identification being
the very objective of Jude’s writing.
1. “[…] These dreamers pollute their
own bodies” (verse 8).
2. “[…] reject authority” (verse 8).
3. “[…] slander celestial beings”
(verse 8).
4. “[…] These men speak abusively
against whatever they do not un
derstand […]” (verse 10).
5. “These men are blemishes at your
love feasts, eating with you without
the slightest qualm” (verse 12).
6. “[…] shepherds who feed only
themselves” (verse 12).
7. “They are clouds without rain […]”
(verse 12).
8. “[…] blown along by the wind”
(verse 12).
9. “Autumn trees, without fruit and up
rooted—twice dead” (verse 12).
10. “They are wild waves of the sea,
foaming up their shame” (verse 13).
11. “These men are grumblers […]”
(verse 16).
12. “[…] and faultfinders” (verse 16).
13. “They follow their own evil desires”
(verse 16).
14. “They boast about themselves […]”
(verse 16).
15. “[…] and flatter others for their own
advantage” (verse 16).
16. “These are the men who divide you
[…]” (verse 19).
17. “[…] who follow mere natural
instincts […]” (verse 19).
18. “[…] and do not have the Spirit”
(verse 19).
Numbered here are 18 characteristics
with which to identify false teachers and
purveyors of the doctrines of demons.

Points to Ponder
Jude is a remarkable prophetic book,
with a useful application to endtime
Christians. Given the prophetic parallels
that we have considered, we must con-
clude that it is already very late … very
near the Midnight Call. We are on the
threshold of the occurrence associated
with the eighth name mentioned—
Enoch—the new beginning for the saints
when they will be raptured. The number
“8” stands for exactly that—a new begin-
ning. Eight people were on Noah’s ark.
All prophetic parallels are in clear
sight today. Our identification of the
season of the last days should be obvi-

next occurrence is the judging of the
ungodly. They come “[…] to judge
everyone, and to convict all the un-
godly of all the ungodly acts they have
done in the ungodly way, and of all
the harsh words ungodly sinners have
spoken against him” (verse 15).
Described by Jude are very difficult
times (“perilous times” as mentioned
in 2 Timothy 3:1) for true Christians.
However, Jude comes to our aid and
outlines a course of action for us …
a list of seven, which is a divine
“But you, dear friends,” he says:
1. “[…] Build yourselves up in your
most holy faith“ (verse 20);
2. “[…] and pray in the Holy Spirit”
(verse 20);
3. “Keep yourselves in God's love […]”
(verse 21);
4. “[…] as you wait for the mercy of our
Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to
eternal life” (verse 21);
5. “Be merciful to those who doubt”
(verse 22);
6. “[…] Snatch others from the fire and
save them” (verse 23);
7. “[…] To others showmercy, mixed
with fear—hating even the clothing
stained by corrupted flesh”(verse 23).
In closing, let us join Jude in his Dox-

falling and to present you before his glo-

NOVEMBER 2010 27
By Dr. Ron J. Bigalke
Paul referred to a physical departure in 2 Thessalonians 2:3, and said that physical departure must occur first, and
then there would be the revealing of the man of lawlessness. Part 2 of this article examines verses 6-7 of 2
Thessalonians 2, which provide greater support in defense of the doctrine of the pretribulational rapture.
28 M I D N I G H T C A L L
Second Thessalonians 2:6-7 refers to a re-
strainer that continues to restrain “until he is
taken out of the way.” There are generally
five different views as to identifying the re-
strainer, with the first being that it is the Ro-
man Empire. The restrainer cannot be the
Roman Empire because such a view limits
the restrainer to the past, and Paul indicated
that the one being restrained, the man of sin,
will live in the future during the Day of the
Lord. One other view is that the restrainer is
human government, which cannot be correct
because human government will continue to
exist even after the man of sin is revealed.
The man of sin will establish his own gov-
ernment and will enforce it as his government and
his government alone. This government will even
require believers to deny the living God, but unbe-
lievers will obey; therefore, a government still ex-
ists even when the man of lawlessness, the man of
sin, is revealed, so it cannot be human govern-
ment. Another idea is that the restrainer is Satan.
Scripture teaches that a house divided against it-
self cannot stand (Matt 12:25); therefore, the re-
strainer cannot be Satan, either. Is the restrainer
the church? According to 2 Thessalonians 2:9, the
restrainer will prevent the activity of Satan with all
power, and signs, and false wonders. It is nice to
think that the church could restrain the activity of
Satan, his power, his signs and false wonders. In a
sense, the church can with the gospel, with the
preaching of the Word of God, but not in the
fullest sense because only God can do that.
As Martin Luther said in agreement with Scrip-
ture, “Satan is God’s devil;” he is not a rival, but
God just uses him to accomplish His purposes.
The church does not have that power. According
to Jude 9, dispute with the devil must be on the
basis of the Lord’s rebuke. Even Michael the
archangel recognized that only God could oppose
Satan. What is stated with regard to the restrainer
in 2 Thessalonians 2 is the fact that this restrainer
prevents one who uses all powers, and signs, and
lying wonders; therefore, it cannot be the church.
Indication as to the identity of the restrainer can
be determined because the gender for the word ac-
tually changes. The Greek word for “restrains”
changes from the neuter (which is just generic as
opposed to being masculine or feminine) in verse
6 to the masculine in verse 7. It seems to be note-
worthy that the gender changes from one verse to
the next. Why would verse 6 state, “what restrains
him now,” and do so in a general sense, and then
change to a masculine form in verse 7, when stat-
ing, “he who now restrains”?
It would seem that the only manner one can un-
derstand the change from the neuter present active
participle (to katecon, +o io+:¿ov) in verse 6 to
the masculine present active participle (Jo kate-
cwn, o io+:¿·v) in verse 7 is that the latter
should be understood as referring to the Holy
Spirit. The restrainer will restrain until he is re-
moved, and it is the Holy Spirit accomplishing the
action. The restrainer will restrain until he is re-
moved (genhtai, y:vq+oi). Genhtai (y:vq+oi) is
an aorist middle subjunctive from the deponent
verb ginomai (yivoµoi). Deponent verbs have
middle or passive endings but are translated as ac-
tive in meaning. In 2 Thessalonians 2:7, the verb
The man of sin will establish his own government and will enforce it as his gov-
ernment and his government alone. This government will even require believers
to deny the living God, but unbelievers will obey; therefore, a government still ex-
ists even when the man of lawlessness, the man of sin, is revealed.
would mean that the subject is act-
ing. Genhtai (y:vq+oi) does not de-
note removal by an outside agent,
but indicates a voluntary action of
the restrainer. The Greek indicates
that the restrainer is actively per-
forming the act of restraining. The
restraining is not some sort of a pas-
sive thing, but the restrainer is do-
ing this actively.
Some have said that the idea of
the restrainer being “taken out of
the way” cannot refer to a spatial re-
moval. In other words, it cannot re-
fer to a physical removal, but only
some form of resignation. Page 159
of A Greek-English Lexicon of the
New Testament and Other Early
Christian Literature (1979) refer-
ences 2 Thessalonians 2:7 as an ex-
ample of deponent verb usage “to
denote change of location” (i.e.
“leave the scene”). The deponent
verb usage in 2 Thessalonians 2:7
does indeed indicate a change in lo-
cation. The 2000 (third) edition of
this standard Greek lexicon (pp.
198-99) refers to the same verse as an example of
deponent verb usage to indicate “[making] a
change of location in space.”
Therefore, when one examines the context of the
Greek word apostasia, and examines what is stated
in verses 6-7, it is easy to discern that the focus is
upon a spatial departure, a physical departure. The
entire context favors such an interpretation.
Based upon context and grammar, it is best to un-
derstand that the Holy Spirit is specifically doing
the restraining. Is the Holy Spirit taken from the
earth? The Holy Spirit cannot be taken from the
earth because He is omnipresent. He is the one who
effects salvation. Consequently, if the Holy Spirit
was removed, then nobody could be saved during
the tribulation if that was a possibility. One reads in
Revelation with regard to multitudes coming from
that period having received salvation, believing in
God, as a result of the Holy Spirit’s ministry (cf.
John 16:8-11).
What is the restraining influence? Upon examin-
ing the New Testament and reading with regard to
the Holy Spirit indwelling believers (which is some-
thing that never occurred in the Old Testament in
the sense that the Holy Spirit actually dwelt within
the believer and stayed), it would be natural to un-
derstand the removal of the restrainer as referring
to the pretribulational rapture of the church. In the
Old Testament, the Holy Spirit would come upon
someone and empower for ministry, and sometimes

there would be a filling, but it was not permanent.
The experience with the church is permanent; it is
a permanent filling of the Holy Spirit. He does not
depart from the church. Such a doctrine is both
comforting and humbling, to recognize that God
sees everything, but it is also comforting in the
sense that believers know that God is always with
them, to strengthen, to guide, and to empower.
The doctrine has a sobering aspect, but it also has
a comforting aspect. What does it mean? In verses
6-7 of 2 Thessalonians 2, what currently restrains?
The Holy Spirit, as He indwells the church, is actu-
ally used by God to restrain evil.
The church cannot complain and say how bad
the world is, without first looking inward and un-
derstanding that the church is a restraining influ-
ence. If the church is doing what it needs to do,
i.e. if the church is being obedient to God, there is
a restraining influence of evil as the church is be-
ing faithful. The church has much opportunity to
be faithful to God and have a tremendous impact
upon the culture. The restraining influence is the
Holy Spirit within the church. Examination of the
context and all the other
factors identified in this ar-
ticle and the previous one
indicate a pretribulational
rapture, such as statements
in verse 3 that unless the
departure (i.e. the rapture)
comes first, the man of law-
lessness will not be re-
vealed, and then the
tribulation (i.e. the Day of
the Lord) begins. Paul said
the departure, the physical
departure of the church,
has to come first. The
church is that restraining
influence, but when the
church departs and leaves
this earth, then that re-
straining influence is
taken, and the man of lawlessness can then be re-
The man of lawlessness cannot be revealed now
while the church is here. Why? The answer is that
the church would oppose him by citing the Scrip-
tures and indicating that he is the prophesied man
of sin. The church would oppose the man of sin;
therefore, the church has to be removed for the
man of lawlessness to be revealed, and then the
events of Revelation will be fulfilled. Second Thes-
salonians 2 has two very clear references to the
rapture of the church.
The removal of the restrainer is a reference to the
departure of the Holy Spirit in the pretribulational
rapture of the church. The church has been
granted a tremendous opportunity to restrain evil
in this world through faithfulness to God, the
proclamation of the gospel, and the making of dis-
ciples. May the church pray for God’s help to be
faithful until the very moment, the very second
that God calls His people home to glory. (408)
The removal of the restrainer is a reference to the departure of the Holy Spirit in
the pretribulational rapture of the church. The church has been granted a tremen-
dous opportunity to restrain evil in this world through faithfulness to God, the
proclamation of the gospel, and the making of disciples.
he 70 weeks of years are not about the age
of the Church, the age of grace, but solely
about God’s plan of salvation with Israel,
“Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people
and upon thy holy city…” (Daniel 9:24). This is
a clearly defined time span: 70 weeks of years
(70 x 7 years = 490 years). The Scofield Bible
says regarding these, “These are ‘weeks’ or, more
accurately, sevens of years; seventy weeks of
seven years each.”
What the 70 weeks of years mean for Israel.
“…upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to fin-
ish the transgression, and to make an end of sins,
and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to
bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up
the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most
Holy” (Daniel 9:24). According to this, the 70
weeks of years mean the following for Israel:
1. The continual transgressions of Israel will
come to an end. No further apostasy will take
2. The continual sinning of the people and the
individual will have ceased.
3. The iniquity of Israel will be forgiven. This
took place factually at Calvary (Hebrews 9:26).
Practically, it will be a reality for Israel at the return
of the Messiah, “In those days, and in that time,
saith the Lord, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought
for, and there shall be none…” (Jeremiah 50:20).
“There shall come out of Sion the deliverer, and
shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob” (Romans
4. The Messianic kingdom of righteousness will
be established, “And the kingdom and dominion,
and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole
heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of
the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting
kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey
him” (Daniel 7:27).
5. All prophecies will come to their final fulfill-
ment. Just as all the prophecies had to be fulfilled
concerning the first coming of Jesus and His suffer-
ing, so everything that is still outstanding concern-

ing His second coming will be fulfilled. Professor
Werner Gitt cites a man named Finis Jennings
Dake (1902-1987) as saying that he had searched
throughout the Bible and drawn up statistics. Ac-
cording to his calculations, there are 6,408
prophecies in the Bible, and 3,268 of these have
been proven to have been fulfilled.
6. In connection with the return of Jesus, there
will be a rest-fulfillment. To this belongs the
anointing of the Holy of Holies. This means that
in the Messianic kingdom there will be a new
temple (Ezekiel 40-48), which will be anointed at
the dedication of it, just as the tabernacle was
anointed with oil in Exodus 40:9. In a way, the
first temple was also anointed by the appearing of
the glory of the Lord there (1 Kings 8:10-11).
The dividing of the 70 weeks of years. After a
general review of the 70 weeks of years is given
in verse 24 of Daniel 9, further information is
given in detail, “Know therefore and understand,
that from the going forth of the commandment to
restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah
the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore
and two weeks: the street shall be built again,
and the wall, even in troublous times. And after
threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut
off, but not for himself: and the people of the
prince that shall come shall destroy the city and
the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a
flood, and unto the end of the war desolations
are determined. And he shall confirm the
covenant with many for one week: and in the
midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and
the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading
of abominations he shall make it desolate, even
until the consummation, and that determined
shall be poured upon the desolate” (verses 25-
The 70 weeks of years are divided into three

7 + 62 + 1 = 70

7 weeks of years are 49 years

62 weeks of years are 434 years
(a total of 69 weeks of years, therefore, which make
483 years)

1 week (the last) makes 7 years
(this gives a total of 70 weeks of years = 490 years)

The last week of years is also divided into two
halves, however, of 3 ½ years.

Until the appearing of the Messiah as Prince, 7 + 62
= 69 weeks of years will pass.

Two princes are mentioned: one is the Messiah
Prince, and the other is a future prince,“the prince
that shall come,” which refers to the Antichristian
world ruler.
The first 7 weeks of years (49 years) refer to the
time of the rebuilding of Jerusalem, “Know there-
fore and understand, that from the going forth of
the commandment to restore and to build
Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be
seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the
street shall be built again, and the wall, even in
troublous times” (Daniel 9:25). This is simulta-
neously the time to start at in order to calculate
the appearing of the Messiah in lowliness. The
time of the 70 weeks of years began with the per-

mission of the Persian king, Artaxerxes, to rebuild
Jerusalem. Nehemiah reports of this decree in the
twentieth year of his government, “And it came to
pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of
Artaxerxes the king…” (Nehemiah 2:1). Ne-
hemiah was Artaxerxes’ cupbearer and was very
despondent when he served the king. This was
noticed by Artaxerxes, because Nehemiah had
never been sad before him up to then. He asked
the reason for his sadness, and Nehemiah an-
swered, “Let the king live for ever: why should
not my countenance be sad, when the city, the
place of my fathers’ sepulchres, lieth waste, and
the gates thereof are consumed with fire?” (Ne-
hemiah 2:3). Artaxerxes showed understanding.
He granted Nehemiah his wish to rebuild
Jerusalem, and had various letters written to
make this rebuilding possible.
As Artaxerxes came into power in July 465
B.C., after the murder of Xerxes (the coronation
took place a year later), we must deduct 20 years
from his reign in order to find out the date in
which Artaxerxes allowed the city of Jerusalem to
be rebuilt and issued corresponding orders (Ne-
hemiah 2:6ff). So this would have been in the
month of Nisan (Nehemiah 2:1), in the year 445
B.C. The month Nisan corresponds with our
March/April. In all probability it was the 1st of
Nisan. Stanley A. Ellisen, who summarized the
whole of the Old Testament in tables and maps
and in a comprised overview, said, “According to
Jewish custom, where the day is not mentioned,
the first of the month is automatically meant.” Af-
ter 49 years (7 weeks of years), Jerusalem was to
be rebuilt. This fact is very important so that we
do not confuse the decree of Artaxerxes and
therewith the rebuilding of Jerusalem with the
commandment of Cyrus. The Persian king, Cyrus,
already issued a decree for the return of the peo-
ple and the rebuilding of Jerusalem and the tem-
ple in Ezra 1 and Isaiah 44:28, but 49 years later
(in 489 B.C.), Jerusalem still lay in ruins, for
decades later even. Only after the decree of Artax-
erxes was Jerusalem rebuilt. Now the contempo-
raries Nehemiah, the governor, and Ezra, the
priest and scribe, together progressed with the re-
building of Jerusalem. This rebuilding turned out
to be very difficult, however. It was characterized
by trouble, unrest, hostilities and conflicts, just as
Daniel had prophesied in Daniel 9:25, “The street
shall be built again, and the wall, even in trou-
blous times.” The books of Ezra and Nehemiah
report in detail of this time. First the city wall,
and then the city was built.
John MacArthur mentions in his Study Bible
that the end of the 49 years with the restoration of
the street and wall coincides with the end of the
ministry of the prophet Malachi and the conclu-
sion of the Old Testament.
The 62 weeks of years: The following 62 weeks
of years are the time between the conclusion of
the Old Testament and the Gospels or the appear-
ing of Jesus. This could be, in addition, an expla-
nation of the division of the 7 and the 62 weeks
of years, as well as the last week of years, which
describe in each case a specific time, namely:
First: The 7 weeks of years describe the
restoration of Jerusalem and the conclusion of
the Old Testament.
Second: The 62 weeks of years represent an in-
terval, for in the time between the conclusion of
the Old Testament and the coming of John the
Baptist, there was no prophet and no revelation
of God.
Then, after these 62 weeks, the Messiah was to
appear as Prince and bring the New Testament.
The 62 weeks of years describe, therefore, the ap-
proximate interval between the Old and New Tes-
taments, i.e. up to the entry of Jesus in
Third: After this, there will be another interval
between the 69th and the 70th week of years.

Computer simulations, part of a larger study
on how winds affect water, show wind could
push water back at a point where a river bent to
merge with a coastal lagoon, the team at the Na-
tional Center for Atmospheric Research and the Uni-
versity of Colorado at Boulder said.
“The simulations match fairly closely with the ac-
count in Exodus,” Carl Drews of NCAR, who led the
study, said in a statement.
“The parting of the waters can be understood
through fluid dynamics. The wind moves the water in
a way that’s in accordance with physical laws, creat-
ing a safe passage with water on two sides and then
abruptly allowing the water to rush back in.”
Religious texts differ a little in the tale, but all de-
scribe Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt
ahead of a pharaoh’s armies around 3,000 years
ago. The Red Sea parts to let Moses and his fol-
lowers pass safely, then crashes back onto the
pursuers, drowning them.
Drews and colleagues are studying how Pa-
cific Ocean typhoons can drive storm surges and
other effects of strong and sustained winds on
deep water.
His team pinpointed a possible site south of
the Mediterranean Sea for the legendary cross-
ing, and modeled different land formations that
could have existed then and perhaps led to the
accounts of the sea appearing to part.
The model requires a U-shaped formation of
the Nile River and a shallow lagoon along the
shoreline. It shows that a wind of 63 miles per
hour, blowing steadily for 12 hours, could have
pushed back waters 6 feet deep.
“This land bridge is 3-4 km (2 to 2.5 miles) long
and 5 km (3 miles) wide, and it remains open for 4
hours,” they wrote in the Public Library of Science
journal PLoS ONE.
“People have always been fascinated by this Exo-
dus story, wondering if it comes fromhistorical facts,”
Drews said. “What this study shows is that the de-
scription of the waters parting indeed has a basis in
physical laws.”, 21 September 2010
The positive aspect of this report is that these re-
searchers at least take the account in the Scrip-
tures seriously. Although the text does mention
“a strong east wind” as causing the waters to part
(Exodus 14:21), these scientists are ignoring the
source of the wind, which is God Himself. 3909

Parents’ concern for the safety of their chil-
dren is to be commended. However, one can-
not deny that a step in that direction leads one
closer to reliance upon electronic devices. In
our world, one can barely get by without a
credit card, cell phone and a computer. If
those often convenient items would suddenly
fail to function, it could cause a global cata-
strophe. Thus, we see the irreversible trend
toward total reliance upon man-made secu-
rity devices. 3908

This is all the more embarrassing for
a prominent physicist, whose words

Lest misunderstanding occurs, the im-

Hawking is not a good physicist. On the
contrary, it is well known that he has made
good contributions to the fields of cosmol-

However, celebrity media has so often
taken seriously every single bold claim that

his expertise in physics.
In this light, the recent story about his new
bold claim about God constitutes only the lat-

This is all the more serious when the public

When the sun rises and it’s still hazy over
Andalusia, the future is particularly visible.
That’s when beams of light as thick as tree trunks
and as sharp as lasers slice through the haze. They
come together just below the tops of two towers,
the taller of which rises 162 meters (531 feet) into
the sky, taller than Cologne Cathedral. These light
beams are not being emitted by some UFO, but are
in fact the core of the most advanced solar power
plant in the world.
The towers are surrounded by close to 2,000
mirrors that face the sun. Each mirror has a surface
area of about 120 square meters (1,290 square
feet) and, like flowers, they follow the light, to the
sound of a rattling motor that orients them toward
receivers up in the towers. The bundled solar en-
ergy, which reaches a temperature of 250 degrees
Celsius (482 degrees Fahrenheit), strikes steel
pipes through which water is conducted. The water
vaporizes and drives a turbine. The facility, known
as PS20, is the world’s largest solar power tower
and generates enough electricity for 10,000 house-

“It’s easy today,” Enrique Sales Rodriguez says with
satisfaction, as the turbine roars and the tower runs
at full capacity. Rodriguez, an engineer, monitors
the technology from a control room at the base of
the tower. He reacts quickly whenever large clouds
appear in the sky, making adjustments to the sys-
temto extract as much energy as possible fromthe
rays of the sun. Everything is designed to increase
the harvest of light. Trucks equipped with large blue
cleaning brushes are constantly roaming through
the rows of mirrors. “We clean 24 hours a day,”
says Rodriguez.

bold concept is designed to provide Europe with
clean, renewable energy in the form of solar power
fromthe Sahara. It has the capacity to avert the en-

surprisingly, experts and politicians alike applauded
when 12 companies initiated the Desertec Industrial
Initiative last summer. The consortium includes
multinational corporations like Siemens, major
banks like Deutsche Bank and German energy gi-
ants E.on and RWE. They are all eager to be in-

Morocco, in particular, is being targeted for test
projects in the next few years. Anyone can partici-

just the Desertec companies. Once the experience
gleaned from the pilot projects has improved the
technology and reduced costs, the next bidding
rounds can begin.
Even then, Desertec’s mammoth power plants,
images of which have been circulating in the media
in recent months, will still not materialize yet. If the
approach proves to be successful and larger-scale
construction begins, it will probably not be in the
form of a few gigawatt plants. Instead, it is more
likely that thousands of medium-sized power plants,
financed by large numbers of investors,
will sprout up in many locations in the
desert. At best, the Desertec logo will be

we’ll turn everything over to the market.”
This is not as extensive a develop-
ment as many have believed until now,
but it is far more realistic, says Fritz Vahrenholt, who
heads RWE’s renewable energy division. He says
that he was troubled by the “exaggerated optimism”
associated with the Desertec project, and he is not
convinced that Europe will meet a significant portion
of its energy needs with electricity from the Sahara
in 15 years’ time. Nevertheless, says Vahrenholt,
RWE now views the project “with significantly more
confidence than in the past.”
The organization isn’t settling for just solving the
world’s energy problem. Desertec will provide more
than electricity, says Max Schön, president of the
German Association of the Club of Rome and the
owner of a family business in the northern city of
Lübeck. According to Schön, Desertec will also
showthat “the Middle East and the West, Islamand
Christianity can work together.” Desertec, says
Schön, will create jobs and improve the economy of
North Africa, thereby reducing the flow of economic
migrants to Europe. And because solar plants also
desalinate seawater, Schön argues, Desertec will
also put an end to wars over water. The goal now,
says Schön, is to convince industry that these are
all worthwhile objectives.
Heat derived through solar thermal energy can
be stored for up to 24 hours with little loss, using a
medium such as hot liquid salt. This energy can
then be released during the night or when the skies
are overcast. This is why a solar thermal power
plant, like a nuclear power plant, can cover the so-

The Taliban-ordered killing comes at a
time when international rights groups
have raised worries that attempts to negotiate
with the Taliban to bring peace to Afghanistan
could mean a step backward for human rights in
the country. When the Islamist extremists ruled
Afghanistan, women were not allowed to leave
their houses without a male guardian, and public
killings for violations of their harsh interpretation
of the Quran were common.
The stoning appeared to arise from an affair
between a married man and a single woman in
Kunduz province’s Dasht-e-Archi district.
They were discovered by Taliban operatives
and stoned to death in front a crowd of about
150 men, district government head Mohammad
Aqyar said.
First the woman was brought out and stoned,
then the man a half an hour later, Aqyar said. He
decried the punishment, which he said was or-
dered by two local Taliban commanders.
The ancient practice of death by
stoning has been abandoned in all but a
handful of countries. It is still a legal
punishment in some countries, like Iran,
which justify it under Shariah, or Islamic
law, although human rights activists say
the Quran never specifically prescribed
stoning for adultery.
Recently, Iran’s religious authorities
called off the planned stoning of a woman con-
victed of cheating on her husband. Sakineh Mo-
hammadi Ashtiani’s sentence—which would
have been Iran’s first stoning since 2008—was
lifted following a campaign by politicians, rights
groups, diplomats and celebrities around the
world., 16 August 2010
The Bible determined capital punishment
for adultery: “And the man that committeth
adultery with another man’s wife, even he
that committeth adultery with his neigh-
bour’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress
shall surely be put to death” (Leviticus
20:10). Such execution is God-ordained.
The Law excludes mercy.
Later in history, Jesus was confronted
with an adulteress: “They say unto him,
Master, this woman was taken in adultery,
in the very act. Now Moses in the law com-
manded us, that such should be stoned: but
what sayest thou?” (John 8:4-5). How did
Jesus answer? “He that is without sin
among you, let him first cast a stone at her.”
Jesus resorts to a much higher Law, the
Law of conscience and conviction, thus ex-
posing each and every one of us and our
own failure regarding transgression of the
But Jesus goes one step further in expos-
ing our sinful nature, as we can read in
Matthew 5:27-28: “Ye have heard that it
was said by them of old time, Thou shalt
not commit adultery: But I say unto you,
That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust
after her hath committed adultery with her
already in his heart.” This new, infinitely
higher Law, declares guilty every human
being on the face of the earth. But praise
God, He, the Sinless One, became sin for us
and paid the penalty for any and all sin, as
recorded in 1 John 1:7: “…and the blood of
Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all
sin.” What must we do? Verse 9 answers:
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and
just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us
from all unrighteousness.” 3898

called baseload (the minimum amount of power
that needs to be produced to meet consumers’
expected demands), explains process engineer
Franz Trieb of the German Aerospace Center. Ac-
cording to Trieb, this makes it more valuable than
wind energy.
At first, critics warned that shifting sand dunes
would bury the solar mirrors and sand storms
would scratch their surfaces, rendering them un-
usable. But these concerns were unfounded,
says Trieb. He points out that 80 percent of the
deserts are free of dunes, and that the migration
routes of nomads would, of course, be avoided.
The optimal sites for solar collectors are plateaus
far from the coasts, where the sun delivers 20
percent more energy per hectare than in Spain.
“The closer to God, the better the rays,” says De-
sertec’s chief operating officer, Rainer Aringhoff., 27 May 2010
“Clean energy” is still on the drawing board
as an alternative to coal and oil. Neverthe-
less, these European firms are eager to be on
the cutting edge of technology, investing bil-
lions to secure their leadership in solar en-
ergy production.
When reading such and other futuristic
technology-related articles, we are reminded
of Daniel 12:4: “Many shall run to and fro,
and knowledge shall be increased.” 3851

Has theSouthern
Giant Awoken?
Ever since President Lula won
the first of his twoPresidential
elections in2002, Brazil has
while his social policies targeted
the poor, bringing millions out
of poverty andfromwelfare to
workfare, contributing towards
the economy.
Today Brazil has proudly announced
that it has surpassed the average world
GDP per capita. Do we pay attention to the sun-
shine today or the clouds on tomorrow’s hori-
Precisely ten years ago, for the first time in
my life I felt first-hand the significance of buying
power: with ten thousand dollars in cash in my
pocket, I could have bought the entire contents
of most small and medium-sized shops I en-
tered in Brazil. Ten years ago, a Brazilian emi-
grant could come to Europe, earn the minimum
salary, five years later return to Brazil and if not
live like a king, had his life sorted out in terms of
a house and a business.
Not so today. 400 Euro is equivalent to
around 1,000 Reais, well below the average na-
tional income of 1,300 R$ per month, the only
advantage being that a Brazilian emigrant who
chooses to live like an immigrant in Europe, liv-
ing ten to a house and spending the minimum,
existing rather than living, would save the 1,000
R$ instead of spending it.
New figures released in a study by Brazilian
economists, presented in a report by Klinger
Portella point towards the Brazilian Gross Do-
mestic Product per capita reaching the world-
wide average by 2010. Nothing new. After
record growth rates registered in 2007 to 2008
and the quick recovery from the recession in Q2
of 2009, already by the end of last year the CIA
World Factbook was forecasting a GDP/capita
earnings of 10,470 USD, based on a 10,200
USD GDP/capita at the end of 2009., 29 July 2010
President Lula was considered the super so-
cialist that would lead Brazil toward com-
munism and, as a result, becoming
non-competitive with the European world.
After ten years, however, everything has
changed. The southern giant is indeed
awakening. Brazil, with its gigantic land
mass and many resources including an
abundance of water, rainforests, and agri-
culturally fertile land, will become another
powerful voice among the world’s leaders.
The latest discovery of a virtually immea-
surable wealth of oil on Brazil’s continental
shelf has become an additional ingredient
to support the confidence of the people in
looking toward a significantly improved
standard of living and becoming one of the
leading nations of the world. 3905

China may soon put an end to that.
U.S. naval planners are scrambling to
deal with what analysts say is a game-changing
weapon being developed by China—an unprece-
dented carrier-killing missile called the Dong
Feng 21D that could be launched from land with
enough accuracy to penetrate the defenses of
even the most advanced moving aircraft carrier at
a distance of more than 1,500 kilometers (900
Analysts say final testing of the missile could
come as soon as the end of this year, though
questions remain about how fast China will be
able to perfect its accuracy to the level needed
to threaten a moving carrier at sea.
The weapon, a version of which was dis-
played last year in a Chinese military parade,
could revolutionize China’s role in the Pacific
balance of power, seriously weakening Wash-
ington’s ability to intervene in any potential con-
flict over Taiwan or North Korea. It could also
deny U.S. ships safe access to international wa-
ters near China’s 11,200-mile (18,000-kilometer)
-long coastline.
Funded by annual double-digit increases in
the defense budget for almost every year of the
past two decades, the Chinese navy has be-
come Asia’s largest and has expanded beyond
its traditional mission of retaking Taiwan to push
its sphere of influence deeper into the Pacific
and protect vital maritime trade routes.
“The Navy has long had to fear carrier-killing
capabilities,” said Patrick Cronin, senior director
of the Asia-Pacific Security Program at the non-
partisan, Washington-based Center for a New
American Security. “The emerging Chinese anti-
ship missile capability, and in particular the DF
21D, represents the first post-Cold War capabil-
ity that is both potentially capable of stopping
our naval power projection and deliberately de-
signed for that purpose.”
Setting the stage for a possible conflict, Bei-
jing has grown increasingly vocal in its demands
for the U.S. to stay away from the wide swaths

and South China seas—where it claims exclu-

The Pentagon has been worried for years
about China getting an anti-ship ballistic missile.
The Pentagon considers such a missile an “anti-
access,” weapon, meaning that it could deny
others access to certain areas.
The Air Force’s top surveillance and intelli-
gence officer, Lt. Gen. David Deptula, told re-
porters that China’s effort to increase
anti-access capability is part of a worrisome
trend. He did not single out the DF 21D, but
said: “While we might not fight the Chinese, we
may end up in situations where we’ll certainly be
opposing the equipment that they build and sell
around the world.”, 5 August 2010
The days of saber rattling are not over yet.
America has reason to be concerned. Al-
though China’s economy is only one-third
of America’s, they have become the rich
communists who can afford spending large
sums on the military. China has the world’s
largest population and virtually mind-bog-
gling potential. China’s message is rather
simple: “Yankee, go home!” What does it
mean? Simply said, Asian independence
with Chinese dominance.
There is no denying of China’s miracu-
lous success. The industrialization, accom-
panied by modern technology, is only in the
beginning stages, some experts say. China
wants to show the world who they are
and what they can do.
What is most worri-
some for the United States
is China’s ability to produce
top-quality weapons for ex-
port, thus becoming a serious
competitor for the U.S.—the
world’s leading military equip-
ment manufacturer.
While no one can accurately
predict the outcome of this new “arms
race,” one thing becomes clear: China will
become stronger and the United States will
lose its dominance in the Pacific-Asian the-
ater. This is following the pattern of the
New World Order, creating equality among
the nations without anyone being a domi-
nating force.
Most important, however, is the fulfill-
ment of Bible prophecy. Revelation 16:12
speaks of the kings of the east: “And the
sixth angel poured out his vial upon the
great river Euphrates; and the water thereof
was dried up, that the way of the kings of
the east might be prepared.” 3897
Stricter Bank
The EuropeanCom-
missionhas proposed
toamendEUrules on
the supervisionof “fi-
nancial conglomerates”
toallowfor stricter over-
sight inthe wake of the
financial crisis.
“Drawing lessons from
the financial crisis, the commission pro-
poses to equip national financial supervisors
with new powers to better oversee the con-
glomerates’ parent entities, such as holding
companies,” the EU executive said in a state-
The principal aim is to allow supervisors to ap-
ply banking supervision, insurance supervision
and supplementary supervision at the same time.
The commission believes that supplementary
supervision of large, complex groups, operating
in several countries, “can only be effective if the
same supervisory approach is applied consis-
tently across all EU member states.”
The proposal comes as member states are
stuck in a extended battle with the European Par-
liament over new laws that would see the cre-
ation of new EU-level financial supervisory
bodies., 17 August 2010
The days of the so-called “unregulated, free
market” are all but over. New regulations
and supervision will certainly alleviate po-
tential problems in the near future, but will
not solve the most fundamental problem of
mankind, namely, greediness. The Bible
says, “The love of money is the root of
all evil.” The end result of the global
financial and economic system re-
mains yet to be seen. But it is clearly
predicted in Revelation 18:15-17: “The
merchants of these things, which were
made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the
fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,
And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that
was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and
scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious
stones, and pearls! For in one hour so great
riches is come to nought. And every ship-
master, and all the company in ships, and
sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood
afar off.” 3900

Russia’s first-ever electronic

State Corporation Sergei
Chemezov said at a meeting
with Russian President
Dmitry Medvedev.
According to Chemezon, Russian
Technologies has already set up the
Iota company specializing in providing
high-speed broadband Internet access.
“We have already launched networks in St.
Petersburg, Moscow, Ufa, Krasnodar, a
similar network has recently been
launched in Kazan. This network will serve
as a basis for the electronic government to
be launched here,” he said.
“We have made a test start-up, but we
need some more time to settle formalities
with the communications ministry.
Nonetheless, within a month we will launch
the entire system, including the first elec-
tronic government and high-speed broad-
band Internet access, in Kazan,”
Chemezov said, adding that the company
had launched digital television, a format
maintained by telephones manufactured
by Russian Technologies., 14 September 2010
This is quite an accomplishment con-
sidering that this large land, with a
population density of 2.6 per square
km (USA 32) and a rather backward
economy, can provide high-speed
broadband Internet access. Doubtless,
this is only the beginning. The ten-
dency is clear: all nations and all parts
of the world must be ready for total
control of the world’s population. 3911

Lim, aiming for a mergers and acquisi-
tions department, represents a new
wave of Asian recruits who don’t feel the pull of
having to start on Wall Street or in London’s City,
partly mirroring a broader shift in the global
banking sector where talent and transactions
are migrating fromWest to East.
“People used to think it was better to start
your career in London or NewYork,” said the 21-
year-old Malaysian, speaking between sessions
at a packed Asian investment banking confer-
ence hosted in Singapore by the London School
of Economics.
Now, launching a finance career in Singa-
pore, Hong Kong or elsewhere in Asia can get
you just as far in the business.
For the banks, the move to hire, develop and
promote homegrown talent inAsia is a key part of
their expansion in a market that is becoming a
major contributor to their bottomline.
“There is a recognition of the fact that the
world is shifting in terms of economic growth and
importance, and the regions here are going to be
very relevant in terms of the level of activity,” said
Farhan Faruqui, head of global banking Asia Pa-
cific at Citigroup.
While those born in the United States and
Europe still occupy top spots at investment
banks in Asia, a new crop of Asian professionals
has occupied corporate suites in recent years,
with a trickle down to trading floors and sector
“I'm a dying breed,” said Ronnie Behar,
Credit Suisse’s head of Southeast Asia M&A,
speaking at the LSE conference. Behar, a West-
erner based in Singapore, was referring to the
number of Asia-bred bankers joining Credit Su-
isse, which has ramped up hiring in the region.
“I don't think there’s the need now, if you’re
starting your career, to go work in the U.S. or Eu-
rope,” Behar said, adding Asia’s M&Asector has
gone froma small, financing-focused product just
five years ago to a significant part of a bank’s
business in the region.
The promotion of Asians through the ranks
sends an encouraging message to business
school graduates in the region.
The top ranks at investment banks in Asia
were once heavy with so-called “gweilos,” a Can-
tonese word for foreigners.
In recent years, UBS, Citigroup, Bank of
America, Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs are
among those to have promoted Asians to top,
Hong Kong-based roles, coinciding with the re-
turn home of overseas educatedAsian bankers.
These returnees, known as “haigui”—a Man-
darin termthat translates as “sea turtles”—are in-
creasingly filling posts.
”The number of kids coming back, educated
abroad, wanting to be back in Asia is huge,” said
Alexis Adamczyk, head of equity capital markets
Asia at HSBC., 21 July 2010
The fact that the Asian giants have awak-
ened is no longer news. The primary power
base is still the banking industry. Until now,
the World Bank, the International Monetary
Fund, and other gigantic financial institu-
tions were virtually all dominated by the
West. That, according to this report, will
change. Asia is definitely coming of age,
which shows that they must become equal
partners with the European Union and
America to form the coming, super-strong,
new, NewWorld Order. 3904

Virgin Mary
Dear Arno Froese,
I am 90 years old. I can’t say I was
born a Catholic, but I was raised as
one with very strict parents.
I strongly believe in God, but am
confused on many matters, especially
in the Catholic Church. I am totally
deaf and can’t understand speech. I am
a completely disabled veteran. I left
the Catholic Church for a year in favor
of a Christian church near our home.
Now these services are 3-4 hours long.
Being that I can’t hear nor understand
speech, I fight hard to stay awake. So
I went back to the Catholic church as
their services are usually no more than
one hour.
Here is my question: What about
the Virgin Mary? The Bible rarely
mentions her other than the birth of
Jesus. What about all these appari-
tions—Lourdes, Fatima, Guadalupe,
etc.? Only the Catholic Church en-
shrines them. Please let me know your
-R.Vigil, CA
Answer: The Bible says,“Blessed is he that read-
eth, and they that hear the words of this
prophecy”; thus, reading and hearing are
equally beneficial.
The Bible makes no provision to address
Mary in prayer, take note of apparitions or at-
tach divinity to any shrines. Mary indeed was
blessed amongst (not above) women. During
Jesus’ earthly ministry, His biological relation-
ship was superseded by the spiritual. When He
was told, “Behold, thy mother and thy brethren
stand without desiring to speak unto thee, ” He
answered,“For whosoever shall dothe will of my
Father which is in heaven, the same is my
brother, and sister, and mother” (Matthew
12:50). Furthermore, He made this distinction
clear when He said, “Woman, what have I to do
with thee?” at His first miracle. As He was dying

42 M I D N I G H T C A L L
on the cross, He stated, “Woman, be-
hold thy son,” referring to John. Mary
is documented to be the mother of
Jesus, but never the mother of God.
That teaching is based on logical in-
terpretation only. It is not Mary, but Je-
sus alone who has exclusively
accomplished salvation for man. He is
the beginning and the end, the Au-
thor and Finisher of our faith.
In the Catechism of the Catholic
Church, Article 2, headed:“TheTransmis-
sion of Divine Revelation,” it states: “It is
clear therefore that, in the supremely
wise arrangement of God, Sacred Tradi-
tion, Sacred Scripture, and the Magis-
terium of the Church are so connected
and associated that one of themcannot
stand without the others. Working to-
gether, each in its own way, under the
action of the one Holy Spirit, they all
contribute effectively to the salvation of
souls”(page 34). Thus, Jesus is no longer
the exclusive Author and Finisher of
faith and salvation, but“SacredTradition
and the Magisterium of the Church”
have become co-redeemers. Mary also
is considered a co-redeemer:‘“But while
in the most Blessed Virgin the Church
has already reached that perfection
whereby she exists without spot or
wrinkle, the faithful still strive to con-
quer sinandincrease inholiness. Andso
they turn their eyes to Mary’: in her, the
Church is already the ‘all-holy’” (Article
829, page 239).
Even those who do not believe can
easily understand that we are dealing
with a dual gospel: one which is headed
exclusively by Jesus and Him alone
through the Holy Spirit, and the other
by decisions and conclusions arrived at
by man, thus creating another Jesus, an-
other gospel, by another spirit (see 2
Corinthians 11:4).
Dear Sir,
I am puzzled about a certain
aspect of the “sacrifice ritual.”
I would like to know what the
procedure of the priests is regard-
ing the slaughter, burning (of
carcass), or even if there is a
complete burning (as indicated
in the burning to ashes of the
heifer). Is the meat roasted for
human consumption, or is the
entire carcass destroyed? What
exactly is the process, the proce-
dure in a step-by-step protocol?
In short, how are sacrificed ani-
mals handled and disposed of?
It seems a tremendous waste if
these animals are totally de-
stroyed, to say nothing of the
huge energy loss required.
Thank you for your help and
-J. Gutowski, AZ
Answer: Read carefully Leviticus chap-
ters 1 – 7, and you will find details about
the burnt offering, meat offering, peace
offering, sin offering, and trespass offer-
ing. The burnt offering is the only one
wholly burnt.
Sacrificing animals served to tem-
porarily cover the sins of the people of
Israel. Before the industrial revolution,
animals were a measure of blessings
and prosperity; thus, God required the
Jews to give their best as a sacrifice.
However, all sacrifices pointed to the
perfect sacrifice, accomplished by Je-
sus Christ the Lord on Calvary’s cross.
Hebrews 10:12 reads:“But this man, af-
ter he had offered one sacrifice for
sins for ever, sat down on the right
hand of God.” The New Covenant ful-

Muslim Invasion
Dear Mr. Froese,
I felt compelled to respond to
your cover story in the July issue,
“The Coming MuslimInvasion?”
You make the statement: “Don’t
attempt to hide behind Satan’s
deception and say the Muslims
are terrorists and the Latinos are
ruining our country; that is fol-
lowing in the footsteps of the
great deceiver.”
This is your opinion and not a
fact. It stands to reason that an
even greater deception would be
to kill us with our own virtues.
You state that the Muslims have
come to Europe (and N. Amer-
ica) and the Latinos to America
not to conquer, as their spokes-
men have publicly stated (Al
Qaida, Islamic Jihad, etc. and La
Raza, Mecha, etc.), but rather
that they should hear the Gospel.
This is illogical on several
fronts (and God gave us our in-
tellect). First, Muslims invaded
Europe several times in the past,
from all directions, and never
embraced Christianity. Also, it’s a
fact that Al Qaida operatives have
crossed into the U.S. posing as
Mexican nationals.
Secondly, Latinos have, in gen-
eral, already been exposed to the
Gospel as they are overwhelm-
ingly Catholic.
Thirdly, Mexico has now be-
come a narco-terrorist state; is it
logical to import that? If ‘x’
amount of Latino souls are saved,
does it make up for the amount
of American people who are
murdered, kidnapped, raped,
Do we not have a right, nay, an
obligation to protect our own
borders? All Latino and Muslim
countries do, because they
haven’t allowed themselves to be
infected with the lunacy of liber-
Finally, I leave you with these
two biblical quotes about God
determining that men should
have boundaries of their habita-
tion: “And hath made of one
blood all nations of men for to
dwell on all the face of the earth,
and hath determined the times
before appointed, and the
bounds of their habitation” (Acts
17:26), and, “When the most
High divided to the nations their
inheritance, when he separated
the sons of Adam, he set the
bounds of the people according
to the number of the children of
Israel” (Deuteronomy 32:8).
Please don’t tell me about how
Al Qaida and La Raza, etc. don’t
represent all Muslims and Lati-
nos. The fact is, they represent
ALL TOO MANY of them.

The article by that title gives ample rea-
son that such cannot be the case. Most
importantly, the Church of Jesus Christ
is the ambassador of God’s invitation,
“For God so loved the world.” You may
be unaware of the fact that many Mus-
lims are coming to a living faith in Jesus
Christ and are being added to His
Church. That is the responsibility of the
true living Church on earth. Besides, the
Bible speaks clearly of an Antichrist, a
false Jesus, a false gospel, and a false
spirit, and not about a false Mohammad
or a false Koran. As truly born again be-
lievers and members of the body of
Christ, we may comfortably and in full
confidence ignore these and other po-
litical or religiously imagined enemies.
Remember, Christ died while we were
yet sinners.
Literal Interpretation
Dear Mr. Froese:
Thank you for your prompt
answer, but what are you going
to do with Scripture verses or
passages which demand a non-
literal approach, for example:
Genesis 6:1-4, 6; 11:4, first part
of the verse; 49:16-17; Matthew
15:10-20; 23:9; 27:3; 1 Corinthi-
ans 6:12-13. These are a few of
the innumerable cases in which a
literal approach does not fit.
-J. Morales, PR
Answer: When the “literal approach
does not fit,” read the whole chapter—
better yet, the whole book, to get the
message. Just in looking at your last ref-
erence, 1 Corinthians 6:12-13, I see no
problem at all in taking it literally. Of
course, if you wish to do a word study,
then you must resort to Greek and He-
brew. The answer does not lie in a
deeper and thorough study of Hebrew
or Greek, but rather our total submis-
sion to the authority of the Holy Spirit.
The closer I walk with the Lord, the
plainer Holy Scripture becomes. I in Him
andHe inme causes all seemingcontra-
dictions and controversies to be dis-
solved in Him. This can only occur when
we exclaim with Paul, “I am crucified

with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I,
but Christ liveth in me.” That is literally
true, but only spiritually applicable.
Dear Sir:
Your August “Letters to the
Editor” had a letter from I. Ede-
Nanney, MO about her two girls
(pet dogs) being left behind dur-
ing the Rapture. I too have had
the same feelings about my two
Chihuahua boys (pet dogs).
I thought the following Scrip-
tures would bring comfort to her
as they did for me: “A righteous
man regardeth the life of his
beast: but the tender mercies of
the wicked are cruel” (Proverbs
12:10); “I have made the earth,
the man and the beast that are
upon the ground, by my great
power and by my outstretched
arm, and have given it unto
whom it seemed meet unto me”
(Jeremiah 27:5); “For every
beast of the forest is mine, and
the cattle upon a thousand hills.
I know all the fowls of the
mountains: and the wild beasts
of the field are mine” (Psalms
50:10-11); and, “For that which
befalleth the sons of men befall-
eth beasts; even one thing befall-
eth them: as the one dieth, so
dieth the other; yea, they have all
one breath; so that a man hath
no preeminence above a beast:
for all is vanity. All go unto one
place; all are of the dust, and all
turn to dust again. Who
knoweth the spirit of man that
goeth upward, and the spirit of
the beast that goeth downward
to the earth?” (Ecclesiastes 3:19-

-D. Irish, PA
Answer: Proverbs 12:10 states that a
good man will take care of his animal
and the evil does not. Jeremiah 27:5
shows the absolute power of the Cre-
ator. Psalm 50:10-11 confirms the ab-
soluteness of God. Ecclesiastes 3:19-21
speaks of life on earth. Both man and
beast will die and disintegrate. The He-
brew Tenakh reads: ‘Who knows if a
man’s lifebreath does rise upward, and
if a beast’s breath does sink down into
the earth?”Your last sentence,“The lion
[lies] down with the lamb” is not in
Scripture. However, Isaiah 65:25 says,
“The wolf and the lamb shall feed to-
gether, and the lion shall eat straw like
the bullock.” This will take place on
earth during the millennium when
Christ reigns, but not in heaven.
There is no definite indication that
animals will be in heaven.
Rome and America
Dear Sir:
Someone has made a glaring
and critical mistake in the July
2010 issue. On page 13, the first
column under “Rome and Eu-
rope,” line 13 reads: “Even a rel-
atively modern country like the
U.S.A. is based on Roman princi-
ples. Actually, the Roman Re-
public (509-49 BC) was the
model for the Founding Fa-
thers.” Nothing could be further
from the truth! This is a gross er-
ror and only feeds the pagan
propaganda that is pushed con-
stantly by Satanic forces to de-
stroy America.
Unless this is corrected, the
creditability of Midnight Call will
be seriously damaged.
-R. Beasley, FL
Answer: Scripture makes it clear that he
who sins is of the devil, and since all
have sinned, all are under the legitimate
rulership of Lucifer. Jesus gave Himself
to “deliver us from this present evil
world” (Galatians 1:4). 1 John 5:19 says,
“And we know that we are of God, and
the whole world lieth in wickedness.”
Your statement, “Satanic forces to de-
stroy America”indicates your belief that
America does not belong to the world
and our nation is or was a“godly Christ-
ian nation.” Holy Scripture, however,
makes no provision for a Christian na-
tion to exist in the midst of this present
evil world. Typical Catholic doctrine as-
sumes that the political government
must be guided by the Church. That’s
mixing religion with politics.
As to our Roman European roots,
there is an abundance of documenta-
tion available that clearly refutes any
and all assumptions that this country, or
any other country, was founded upon
Judeo-Christian principles. If the Bible is
correct, then the existence of a Christian
nation is actually Lucifer’s propaganda
success in the midst of the Church in
the U.S.A.
Scriptural Evidence
To the Editor of Midnight Call:
Your magazine is a blessing to
many who seek truth and knowl-
edge. “Letters to the Editor” is
my favorite section. I enjoy see-
ing different views of Scripture.
That’s how we learn.
I question where Scripture
specifically excludes women
from the office of the priest, dea-
NOVEMBER 2010 45
con, elder or any other office of
service to their God to which
they may be called or feel they
have been called.
I would like to submit a
thought about not only babies
but also others who never had
the opportunity to accept Jesus
and or his death on the cross for
their salvation. I speak of those
in primitive countries or who
were subject to hearing only
about another religion during a
short lifespan.
I believe a just God will not
only give them, but also require
of them an opportunity to ac-
cept or reject the offer of salva-
tion after having been taught
and then tempted by Satan. This
could only happened during the
millennial reign of Jesus when
Satan is chained up, and then re-
leased for a short time. What
other reason could there be for
his release before spending his
eternity in the lake of fire? All of
mankind must have the same
opportunity to accept or reject
Satan after being tempted. At
least that’s my view of a just and
loving God. What say you?
The Bible or the Word of God
is a compilation of many sepa-
rate books or writings. In
Deuteronomy 4:2, we are told
not to add to or take away from
it, yet we added or combined
many more books into one book
(the Bible). Why didn’t we stop
The same is true in Proverbs
30:6 and Deuteronomy 12:32,
and again in Revelation 22:18-
19, where it specifically says not
to add to or take away from the
prophecy of this book, this book
of prophecy being what Jesus re-
vealed to John (see Revelation
1:3). How can anyone suggest
or believe that Revelation 22:18-
19 could possibly refer to 66
books, “later combined” and
written over thousands of years?
-D. Lane, MO
Answer: Anyone believing in Jesus
Christ must be“of service to their God.”
But the capacity to guide the flock and
lead them to green pastures is re-
served for the man, not woman. That is
the pattern clearly established in Holy
Your thoughts on “innocence” are a
theory I cannot confirm nor deny be-
cause I find no definite instruction re-
lating to it in Scripture.
Hebrews 1:1-2 summarizes the tes-
timony of Jesus Christ that He autho-
rized to pass on His message. The
reason for the inclusion of books in
the Canon of Scripture is by cross-ref-
erence and by the fact that they do
not contradict one another. That’s why
the Church does not accept the
Gospel of Thomas, or as lately popular,
the Gospel of Judas, nor the Apoc-
ryphal books as part of the Canon of
the Bible.
Jesus confirmed the Old Testament
when He said,“…all things must be ful-
filled, which were written in the law of
Moses, and in the prophets, and in the
psalms, concerning me”(Luke 24:44).
Intellectually, there may be many
debates regarding the inclusion or ex-
clusion of certain writings, but from
spiritual perspectives, we have the tes-
timony of uncounted millions who
have found salvation by and through
the proclamation of the Word of God
as we have it today.
Readers have enjoyed the
opportunity of writing in and
posing various questions and
concerns relative to the Body of
Christ. They have benefited from
the author’s concise Scriptural
responses on topics such as the
Rapture of the Church, globalism,
the Ecumenical Movement, false
religions, eschatology, general
Scripture explanations and much

The Imminent End of Oil ...
Ron Rhodes, a leading scholar on biblical prophecy, re-
veals how looming tensions over oil factor into end-time
global alignments and how they may lead to a dramatic
shift in the balance of power in the world. Much of the
world’s oil is in the custody of unstable and sometimes
hostile regimes. Nations around the world are posi-
tioning themselves to protect their shrinking piece of
the pie of dwindling oil reserves. Global tensions
continue to rise.
In The Coming Oil Storm Rhodes documents the
role of Islam as the religion in control of most of
the world’s oil reserves and shows convincingly
that once Muslims are in possession of the two
swords of oil and nuclear weapons, they will feel
empowered to act as they wish. Oil could even play a role in
the path to Armageddon.
The Coming Oil Storm is an essential guide for understanding the
state of the world today…and what’s yet to come.
