Nine Spiritual Rules for Our Lives
By Norbert Lieth
Is it not a continual danger for us that we have Biblical knowledge, but the deeds are lacking? Often we know better, but we act contrary to our better knowledge. Neighbors, colleagues, family members or children look to us; they see our deeds and hear our words. Do our deeds underline what we say, or do bad deeds speak so loudly that they do not want to hear our words?

LUKEWARMING – Part II:The Greening of Salvation

By Dr. Ron J. Bigalke
The environmental movement seeks to unite all religions to save the planet, which means the world’s religions must ignore doctrinal differences and unite as one to inaugurate a new spirituality. Christians can be concerned for the environment, but must not let ecology take precedence to fulfilling the Great Commission.

“I will bless them that bless thee (Israel)”
(Genesis 12:3).

“Germans! Defend yourselves! Don’t buy from Jews!” With this slogan, a nationwide boycott of Jewish businesses, physicians and lawyers began on April 1, 1933. Already in the midtwenties, the anti-Jewish boycott movement had spread in Germany. After the seizure of power by the National Socialists, members of the party proceeded more and more violently against Jews. Usually, the police and the judicial authorities registered these offenses without taking action. What began as antipathy gradually became anti-Semitism, which reached a cruel climax in November 1938. On that November night, the country’s Kristallnacht (“Night of Broken Glass”), over 1,400 synagogues and thousands of businesses and homes of Jewish families were destroyed. Barely three years later, the pogroms ended in the Holocaust. Today, in 2011, we hear like in 1933: “Don’t buy from Jews.” We have become accustomed to Israel being hated by her Arabic neighbors. We have known for a long time that the Iranian president Ah4

madinejad would like best to throw Israel into the sea. And the Israel-euphoria which blossomed in many lands in 1967 has waned long ago. That solidarity is disappearing. There were repeated calls for boycotts in the past, but above all in anti-Semitic and Islamic circles. What is new is that this happens in Western countries and is tolerated by the governments. “Don’t buy from Jews.” Not long ago, a similar national campaign was active in Switzerland. The boycott targeted products from Israel. It was especially surprising that in the otherwise so neutral-seeming Switzerland, prominent politicians consented in supporting this boycott. On one poster, it was written beside the portrait of the politician: “Products from Israel? I never buy them!” The politicians involved called the campaign harmless. But who would have thought in 1933 that such actions would have such catastrophic consequences? On the territory of the Swiss Federal Railways, posters critical of Israel were displayed. It was written there (among

other statements): “Israel: established by force on the soil of Palestine,” with the call, “Injustice demands resistance!” After the Swiss Federal Railways were made aware of the political content of the posters (not permitted according to their interior directions), they had them removed. The men behind the poster project opposed this and initiated an appeal to the Swiss Federal Administration Court. This court decided that the posters were to be displayed. However, the Swiss Federal Railways saw this as interference in their enterprise’s responsibility and appealed this decision to the Federal Court. That Court’s decision is still pending at this writing. These examples let us ask: What will the situation be like in 5 years? Will the anti-Israel spiral keep expanding; will the hostilities increase? And will courageous clients of Jewish businesses then perhaps also be intimidated and threatened, as was the case in the 1930s? It is no longer so opportune today to stand publicly with Israel. It is all the more important that we Christians do so anyhow without reservation. Not because Israel is better than other nations, but because she has something better: a special position. She has been chosen by God to be His property. “The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of any people—but because the LORD loved you” (Deuteronomy 7:7-8). The choice of Israel by the Almighty God goes back to His covenant with Abraham (cf. Genesis 17). In addition, God promised Abraham that by him all the peoples of the earth should be blessed (Genesis 22:18). Yes, He even included the individual: “I will bless them that bless thee” (Genesis 12:3). By God giving Jesus for our salvation in Israel, His blessing came upon us! That is the reason why we love Israel! Do you love Israel? Stand for Israel! MC

WE BELIEVE Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, and shed His blood to save mankind. He died and arose bodily the third day and later ascended into heaven. WE BELIEVE that the Lord Jesus Christ died in the place of each individual sinner and that all who believe in Him as their personal Savior are justified through His shed blood and have become children of God. WE BELIEVE that Israel is God’s chosen people, and that the restoration of the Jews to their own land is the fulfillment of the Word of God. he Holy Spirit is practical. He helps us attain to active discipleship, and He is the power that transforms to spiritual knowledge into works. He changes us into the image of Jesus, of whom it says, “The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach” (Acts 1:1). The Lord Jesus was doubtless the greatest and most influential Teacher that ever was. His emphasis was in first doing and then teaching, “…of all that Jesus began both to do and teach.” This made an impression on His listeners and was not without results. Just as we find the nine-fold fruit of the Holy Spirit in Galatians 5:22, we find in Proverbs 3 nine spiritual rules for our lives which are very practical.

standing” (Proverbs 3:5). Do the people around us see in us a person who is trusting in God? Do they see someone who speaks to the Lord in prayer and casts his cares and burdens on Him? Do they see someone who, like Job, Joseph or Daniel, also knows how to trust in crises, who does not give up and whose faith is not shaken? A person who lives out his faith and proves himself in it makes a greater impression than someone who merely speaks of it and expects it of others. Our intellect plays an important part in our faith lives and should not be switched off. But it can be in our way if it is not put under the Lordship of the Spirit of Jesus. “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7). “…Bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5). Doubt in God’s dealings with us and questioning His Word do not bring us any further. Only those who overcome in faith, and trust God that He knows what He is doing and does everything right, will have the peace of God in their hearts. The Holy Spirit wants to help us to trust in God. Somebody said, “Things that confuse us and which we do not understand have a certain purpose. They are a part of the jigsaw puzzle of our lives. God knows where the pieces belong. We would like to see the whole picture, of course, but as long as we are alive this is not finished. That is why we have such trouble in understanding God. We watch His doings all day long, but we only see the pieces that He is moving around. We never see the whole puzzle on earth.” Here, trust is necessary!

1. Spirit-produced trust. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own under-

2. Spiritual priority. “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:6). To “acknowledge” Him means that we should put Him first in everything, in the sense of, “Think of Him in whatever you do”; “Let Him be the motive

Spritual Rules for Our Lives

for all you do”; “Seek first His kingdom.” If we seek His will in all that we do, we will experience His leadership, even if we do not always notice this. In what spheres of our lives do we not want to let God tell us what to do? Usually, these are the spheres which give us the greatest problems. If we include the Lord Jesus, however, in all that we do, He will lead us in such a way that His will is done, and we will certainly not lack anything. crative market. “Be not wise in thine own eyes.” How much money is spent on vitamins, health foods and therapies? This is not in itself bad, but the question is allowed, whether a God-fearing life in body, soul and spirit would not achieve more? At this point, I would like to quote Romans 12:1-2 as it appears in the NIV , “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” In Proverbs 4:22, it says of the words of God, “For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.” And Paul writes in 1 Timothy 4:8, “For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.”

3. Spiritual health. “Be not wise in thine own eyes:
fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel (NIV = body), and marrow to thy bones” (Proverbs 3:7-8). “Reading is for the spirit what exercise is for the body,” said Joseph Addison, an English writer, in the 18th century. This applies all the more to the Bible. Reading and studying the Bible is for the soul like sport and training for the body. As soul and body are connected with one another, spiritual health often has an effect on the body. When the soul is sick, the body suffers. When the body is sick, the soul suffers. The apostle John writes of this connection between body and soul, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth” (3 John 2). In medicine, it is well known that emotional stress, sin, hatred, resentment or worry can lead to physical sickness, and that healing from this stress can also lead to healing from physical ailments. This does not mean, of course, that spiritually healthy and happy people cannot become ill. Many other factors play a part in this, such as genes, environment, accidents, infections, etc. But that which medicine confirms today and which is being researched more and more, the Bible taught us long ago. To have peace with God and to obey Him with all our hearts is better than all the “wise” human advice concerning physical fitness, which we are confronted with daily and which has become a lu8

4. Our spiritual attitude to material things. “Honour the
Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase” (Proverbs 3:9). Martin Luther is said to have said, “I have held many things in my hands and have lost them all. But everything I laid in God’s hands, I still have now!” We cannot see anywhere better by whom we are led than in our attitude toward possessions. Is it the Holy Spirit, or is it the flesh; is it the Spirit or greed; is it giving or keeping; is it the firstfruits or the remainder? Paul describes to the Corinthians how it is when the Holy Spirit is at work when writing of the church at Macedonia (to which the church at Thessalonica also belonged), which gave, “…beyond their power…not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord” (see 2 Corinthians 8:1-8).

Show them that most of the things which their families possessed will one day lie on a garbage heap.Read 2 Peter 3:10-14,where it is said that everything will be burned by fire.Ask them the impressive question,“If all that we once owned is lying around here, broken and useless, then what will we have done which will remain for eternity?”2
Peter 3:10-14, where it is said that everything will be burned by fire. Ask them the impressive question, “If all that we once owned is lying around here, broken and useless, then what will we have done which will remain for eternity?”2 In contrast to this, someone else expressed it as follows, “Every temporal possession can be turned into an eternal treasure, because whatever we give to Christ in the same moment becomes immortal.” Perhaps much money could be saved that we paid to auto mechanics, for the renovation of things, etc. if we were to follow the rule to first strive after the kingdom of God. Giving is more blessed than receiving, even today.

The Thessalonians had been radically converted. Paul testified of them that everyone knew how they had turned away from idols in order to serve God, and awaited the return of Jesus (1 Thessalonians 1:9-10). Part of this was apparently the effect it had on their money, for greed (covetousness) is idolatry (Colossians 3:5). William MacDonald writes concerning the attitude of many Christians today that the assumption that striving after gain has to do with God’s blessing has caused us to worship money.1 Randy Alcorn gives a very impressive example of how fleeting the things are which we spend so much money on: He asks, how we can teach our children the emptiness of materialism in a direct and impressive way? Try taking them on a trip to a junkyard or garbage dump. This can be a big family event. (The lines are shorter than the amusement parks, entry is free and little boys love it!) Show them all the mountains of “treasure” which were once Christmas and birthday presents. Show them the things which once cost hundreds of dollars, which children fought over, which destroyed friendships, for which honesty was sacrificed and over which marriages broke up. Show them the collection of arms, legs and the mangled remains of broken dolls, rusty robots and electronic devices, which after their short lifespan now lie around useless. Show them that most of the things which their families possessed will one day lie on a garbage heap. Read 2

5. Spiritual chastening. “My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction: for whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth” (Proverbs 3:11-12). These verses are also mentioned in Hebrews 12:5ff. and in Revelation 3:19, and they are always in direct connection with the love of the heavenly Father. Chastening and correction can have two different reasons. They can be a divine measure to bring people to turn to Jesus. Often a person only notices that he needs God when things go badly for him, and then he becomes open for God. It can also be a punishment for sin, however, in order to bring a child of God to repentance and to keep him from doing wrong. It is also possible, as with the Apostle Paul, that the Lord wants to keep a person from pride and to keep him humble so that His grace can be all the greater (2 Corinthians 12:7ff.). God had pleasure in Paul and wanted to keep him from stumbling, so He allowed something unpleasant in his life. We must not always equate chastening and correction with punishment, however, and with the wrath of God. The above text does not say that God chastises those in whom He has no pleasure, but the exact opposite. It is about a loving chastising of the divine, perfect Father, about practical correction, to

Spritual Rules for Our Lives

A friend of mine, who is a psychoanalyst, psychotherapist and specialist in internal medicine, said that in over a thousand, hour-long sessions of psychoanalytic therapy, he tried, with the help of psychoanalysts and in his own strength, to change himself. His most important desire, to be able to love genuinely and deeply, was not affected. Only when he opened himself up to the love of God, did he feel able to love unselfishly.
we must never lose sight of this, in view of the thousands of other things this world offers. This consideration and discernment should always control us. Only when he opened himself up to the love of God, did he feel able to love unselfishly.

keep us on the right path and to help us to make progress, because He has a glorious goal that He is pursuing with us.

7. Spiritual generosity. “Withhold not good from them 6. Spiritual discretion or discernment. “My son, let not
them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion” (Proverbs 3:21). With this spiritual advice, Solomon had the preceding verse in mind. Here, he speaks of the value of wisdom and understanding. Through these, the Lord made the heavens and the earth (cf. verses 13-20). Divine wisdom is behind all things in life, even salvation through Jesus Christ and eternal life, as we know. From this, we can only come to the conclusion that the divine wisdom that comes from His Word, and is inspired by the Holy Spirit, is the best wisdom which man can attain to, and to which he should aspire first and foremost. More than ever we need people who can give good advice, who draw attention to Jesus Christ in wisdom, with tact and love, people who can take others by the hand and lead them to eternal life. God made the wisdom of this world foolish because it is only concerned with earthly things and does not know God. On the other hand, He leads through the “foolishness of preaching” to salvation (1 Corinthians 1:20-21). With this, the Holy Spirit of God expresses the fact that even the “foolishness” of God (which in reality does not exist) is far superior to the wisdom of this world. As Christians,

to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee” (Proverbs 3:27-28). This reminds us of the words of Jesus in Luke 6:30, “Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.” One of the many blessed memories of the founder of our ministry, Wim Malgo, was his generosity. Where he saw need, he reacted very quickly and helped, and the Lord blessed this beyond measure. Here and there we hear that it is stupid to lend to impoverished people, as they cannot give it back. The Bible teaches us, however, that we should quietly take this into account and still help. According to the above text, however, there are three things we need to take note of: “Withhold not good from them to whom it is due….” We should help those who need help. This should not be meaningless giving but purposeful support. “…When it is in the power of thine hand to do it.” We should only help in a way that we do not lose sight of the perspective and as far as we are materially able to. There is no sense in being a guarantor or giving so much that we ourselves come into a finan-

Of the nine-fold fruit of the Holy Spirit,it says in Galatians 5:22-26,“But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance:against such there is no law.And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.”
cial bind. Thus, it is certainly not right to lend for the sake of lending. “Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.” Where we can help we should do it immediately and not promise our neighbor help later. Help must not be refused or postponed with pious arguments (cf. James 2:15-16). “…for the froward [perverse] is abomination to the Lord” (verse 32), and, “Evil communications corrupt good manners” (1 Corinthians 15:33; see also Philippians 3:18-19). Of the nine-fold fruit of the Holy Spirit, on the other hand, it says in Galatians 5:22-26, “But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.” Some people may be asking, how can we put that into practice in our daily lives? C. H. Spurgeon once asked: “If a piece of iron could speak, what would it say? It would say, ‘I am black, I am cold, I am hard.’ This is completely true. But if you put this piece of iron into the fire, and wait a while until the fire has proved its strength, what would it say then? ‘The blackness is gone, the coldness is gone, the hardness is gone; it has undergone a transformation.’ But if this piece of iron could speak, it would not boast of itself, because the fire and the iron are two very different things. If it could boast, it would boast of the fire that had transformed it into something completely different. ‘I in myself am black and cold and hard, but when the Lord takes possession of my soul, when His Spirit permeates my being and I am filled with His love, then the blackness, the coldness and the hardness disappear, yet the glory does not belong to me but to the Lord who accomplished it.’” Those who give themselves to the Lord unconditionally will experience this transformation.

8. Spiritual sincerity. “Devise not evil against thy
neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee. Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm” (Proverbs 3:29-30). This advice is particularly important in the family, in a marriage, for instance, or toward our parents, parents-in-law or relatives who live with us. Deceitfulness, envy, meanness, speaking evil of other people, giving them a bad reputation before others, accusations: all this is against the Holy Spirit. This also concerns our fellowship in the church. In New Testament terms, this means, “If it is possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men” (Romans 12:18).

9. Spiritual vision. “Envy thou not the oppressor, and
choose none of his ways” (Proverbs 3:31). Many Christians look at the success of those who have gained it through not quite honest means and admire them, their success, their influence and their reputation. They look at doubtful personalities in the film and music scene and wish for some of their “luck.” In the movie and television world, the heroes who commit adultery, continually change partners, are violent, cheat others and use godless expressions are admired. William MacDonald writes that we have become enthusiastic victims of stupid television programs. We have willingly let ourselves be pressed into the mold of this world (Romans 12:2), have adopted their way of life, their methods of entertainment and ideas.3 We should not admire the luxury of those who have no union with the Lord Jesus,

Out of the Mouth of Babes: 10 Conundrums
B y W i l f r e d H a h n

Have you ever felt ashamed to admit your Biblical worldview? Even though resolute and convinced in your heart on such matters as the Resurrection, His Second Coming, the 6-day creation, eternal life, salvation … etc., you nevertheless may feel cowed by the godless Leviathan of prevailing culture.
fter all, we live in a society that arrogantly elevates its worldly wisdom to a state of manifest superiority, therefore condemning all bona-fide, literal, Bible-believing Christians as simpletons. In public secular life, it is the prevailing and a priori view. Before examination … before discussion … before any reasoning, if you are associated with a Bible-believing perspective, by the popular mores of our culture and the world, you are therefore presumed to be primitive and stupid. Not so. However, this paradox is not new. The Bible has always recognized that this would be the case. “The fool hath

said in his heart, There is no God” (Psalm 14:1; 53:1). By definition, then, a world that does not believe in God is foolish. “Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?” (1 Corinthians 1:20). In fact, the Gospel was specifically designed to be acceptable to babes and as foolishness to the wise. But yet, the worldly wise are not left with any excuse. “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).

Spirit must be relied upon to do the rest of the convicting in any case. For as the Bible says, “From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger” (Psalms 8:2; see also Matthew 21:16). As such, we next present 10 Conundrums. They represent a random sample of “infant logic” (of many we could list) that trumps the worldly wisdom of fools. They collectively are an appeal of simple logic (reasoning) to the person who would be open to acknowledging God and His Son, Jesus Christ and the foolishness of the world. There is nothing to be ashamed about. As Paul, says, “I am not ashamed of the gospel.” Why? “[…] because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16). 1. Intolerant or Not The world accuses Christians of being intolerant and anti-choice. These criticisms are designed to incapacitate credibility and discussion. However, it is not foolish to be intolerant. To endorse tolerance implies that there can be no absolute truths. For example, if you truly believe that 2 plus 2 is 4, then you must be intolerant to maintain that belief. We would certainly hope that the engineers who are designing automobiles and airplanes are intolerant on matters of the physical sciences. The charge of tolerance is targeted at Christianity because it endorses Truth … a single answer … one way. Yet, the charge is wrong. The world (and many liberal, so-called Christian leaders) insists that while there are many ways to God, that all are going to the same place. In this respect, Christians are pro-choice and pro-tolerance. We say that there are two places. We do not intolerantly demand that everyone must go to the same

The world (and many liberal, socalled Christian leaders) insists that while there are many ways to God, that all are going to the same place.

Foolish Crowds Lead Astray Isn’t the majority always right? We note that the annals of history well document the apparent and unexplainable stupidity of societies and human crowds. The classic work on this subject was written by the Scottish journalist Charles Mackay in 1841, Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds.1 Many of the stories in the book, frankly, are beyond belief, though true. Stupidity is on display most when prospects of gain entice people to suspend reason. Another excellent book that chronicles such behavior is Manias, Panics, and Crashes: A History of Financial Crises by Charles P. Kindleberger.2 We learn how every now and then a viewpoint arises, which is so convincing and inherently logical that it captures the crowd, and how it becomes near impossible—psychologically, at least—to counter its premise. At such times, an arrogance born of a seeming zombie-like consensus assumes its position to be beyond reproach … in fact, beyond Truth itself. When that happens, anyone holding a contrary view is thought stupid. In reality, it is the exact opposite. While this phenomenon is highly visible in financial markets, it certainly also applies to fads in conventional wisdom. With respect to such matters as salvation and biblical truth, the crowd—the entire world—regards them as foolishness. However, it is the world that is foolish. “Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles” (Romans 1:22-23). Just how then can Truth be defended, if we are seen to be contrarian simpletons? Actually, there is little cause is to feel shame or inferior. Simple truths and logic are all that is required. The Holy

place. Rather, people are free to choose between the two destinations of Heaven and Hell. God invites choice: He says “[…] choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve […]” (Joshua 24:15). The God of true Christianity want you to choose Him and to choose to recognize His Son. 2. The Fossil Record The fool says that God is not the Creator, and that mankind evolved from slime. According to the accepted theories of the “wise scholars,” complex life occurred spontaneously. This primordial life advanced gradually to give rise to the King of Apes, the human being. Anyone without any prior indoctrination on the matter of the accepted teachings of “evolution” would most certainly be inclined to look at the evidence very differently. A simple child would possess the logic to refute the theory of evolution. Just what does the evidence show? Thousands upon thousands of extinctions, life forms that no longer exist, and catastrophic mass annihilations. What we see is that many complex, developed life forms—from dinosaurs to rodents— come to an end and not to new life. It is not a picture of new life forms evolving, but preexistent life forms moving to extinction. All creatures can be shown to appear suddenly in the fossil record. To this day, there is yet no conclusive evidence of a continuum of links between the different stages of evolving life forms that is theorized. Palaeontologists have been digging for evidence for more than a century, and are still no closer to having proved their godless theories. How much more time will we allow them before calling them fools?

This is an artist's concept of the Universe expansion, where space (including hypothetical non-observable portions of the Universe) is represented at each time by the circular sections.
The Big Bang theory, which proposes how the mass of the universe could have come from nothing, is still a popularlyreceived fantasy.

The obvious conclusion? There are only two choices. By process of elimination, one must give ascendancy to the existence of God, the one that the Hebrews called Yahweh. All life came originally from the Creator. Ever since, all life has come from life. Nevertheless, the fool says it can’t be so, because there is no God. 3. The Anti-You The Big Bang theory, which proposes how the mass of the universe could have come from nothing, is still a popularlyreceived fantasy. To explain how matter could have been created from nothing, anti-matter was invented. Matter plus anti-matter equals zero. How convenient … and absurd. It remains a theory as it cannot be proven, and moreover, falls woefully short of being the ultimate answer to “beginnings.” It does not answer why, how, or what suddenly triggered a big bang in the first place. However, suppose a big bang did happen. Anti-matter must therefore be the exact mirror image of matter, though in a different dimension. Simple logic of babes would argue that an anti-universe must also exist. Further, it follows that there must also be an anti-you. Somewhere there is another you … namely, an anti-you. Should you and your antiyou ever come together again, you would be nothing. Though this may

is not recorded to have said: “Dear disciples, while I am here with you, there is need for a little correction. The Old Testament has become corrupted over the years and is full of fables. I must make some editorial corrections while I am here with you.” This did not occur. At the threat of torture and individual death, none of the 12 disciples admitted that such a conversation ever happened. Yet, that is the very premise behind the impetus of Islam. Mohammed introduced his visions some 600 years after Christ ascended, saying that he was sent to correct the beliefs and Scriptures of the Jews and Christians. Today, given the many manuscripts that have been found (most notably the Dead Sea Scrolls), we know that the Scriptures did not change in the 600 years that intervened between Christ and Mohammed. As such, any revisions that Mohammed would have been sent to make, would all have had the endorsement of Jesus Christ. Therefore, from a Christian perspective, both could not have been a prophet of God. In Christ’s case, he claimed and proved that He was the Son of God. The Bible does claim for itself the fact that it is divinely inspired. The mere fact that it still exists today in a highly reliable and documentable form is a miracle in and of itself. The fact that God’s Word has been put into the grubby hands of mankind for a period of least 2500 plus years, and still survives relatively unchanged is remarkable. At the same time, the fact that there have been minor transcription errors, only helps to prove that it is indeed genuine. Were it to have been completely without transcription flaws for such a long period of time, this could only be due to fraudulence. Yet, there are no other ancient written works in the history of mankind that

seem comical, it is only a logical extension of the folly of the Big Bang Theory. Even babes would agree. 4. Proofs of False Branding under Christianity Experts (so called “higher critics”) argue that the Bible is not a reliable document and that at worst, it is either a fabrication or a product of mankind’s progressive imagination. Says one pastor, “There’s been a virtual consensus among scholars for the past 30 years that the Bible is not some divine emanation […]. The authoritative Word of God For All Time is but a human project filled with contradictions and the conflicting worldviews and political perspectives of its authors.”3 What is so revealing is that such people (as quoted above), who hold no significance for the Bible and deny the deity of Christ, still want to be called Christian. Why does it not interest them to start a new religion based on their new ideas and so-called insights? Rather, they choose to preach “the doctrines of demons” (1 Timothy 4:1) from under the false branding of Christianity. That betrays their true nature and subversive agenda. The fact that this “brand substitution” occurs primarily only with Christianity, proves that it is a faith worth counterfeiting. Why counterfeit something that has no value? Where would be the gain for the enemy? 5. Old Testament Provenance Interestingly, scholars today still decry the fact that we do not have the original autographs of any of the Scriptures. Only 60% of the Old Testament is reliably proven, they charge. However, we have more evidence of Christ’s existence than of any other human in the history of mankind before … say 1500 AD. He lived. And, if so, then ponder on the thought that while He was with us, He never saw the need to revise anything of the Old Testament. He

The fact that God’s Word has been put into the grubby hands of mankind for a period of least 2500 plus years, and still survives relatively unchanged is remarkable.

come with such extensive provenance and proofs as the books of the Bible. Moreover, it is also the most accurate history book of all time. Secular scholars verify these facts, though they may not choose to believe its words. The bottom line: If you cannot disprove that Jesus Christ existed and validated his claims with miracles and a resurrection, then you must at least believe the literal testimony of the Old Testament. 6. The Collective Amnesia of History Whether identifying with an institutional religion or not, everybody is religious in the sense that all must hold a “worldview” … namely, a philosophy of the meaning and purpose of our life. In the end, try as one might, he will not be able to disprove that a certain person, Jesus Christ, existed on earth at one time. Furthermore, you will also not be able to disprove in a court of law today that this man was crucified, died, was buried, and was resurrected. You cannot deny these facts without destabilizing the foundations of the entirety of ancient history. Did Hannibal (247–183 BC), the Carthaginian, cross the Pyrenees with his elephants to fight the Romans? Why, of course he did, you may say. Indeed, on the basis of the account of Polybius (ca. 200–118 BCE), these general events did occur. However, this would be an accepted historical fact based on a single surviving account. There is no other reference in any document of the antiquities that makes an earlier reference to this event. Yet, Hannibal’s accomplishment against the Romans is considered a proven, historical fact. This is one of potentially thousands of examples. Then, why not consider the life and times of Jesus Christ proven and factual? If so, then the Bible’s Gospel must be historical fact, as well. 7. Backward Language There are numerous arguments beyond count that challenge the views of atheists and evolutionists. An interesting one is observed by linguists (scholars that study languages). Contrary to evolutionary theory, which would argue that human language developed slowly from primitive forms, the exact opposite evidence is found. Not only does language appear suddenly in the historical record (according to linguists, possibly some 20,000 years ago), but also in highly sophisticated form. In fact, the earliest languages (extinct for the most part) are the most sophisticated. By comparison, for example, the English that we speak today is simplistic in structure. How is this possible if there is no God … and no Creation? 8. Atheist’s Paradox There is no God? The fool who takes this stance, does so at great peril. To wager that there is no God, alone is madness in terms of probability theory. The Atheist’s Paradox is named for the logical impossibility of proving that a greater being does not exist. One must first become God to disprove the existence of all other gods. If one is not God, one has no way of disproving that there is a God. In any case, if there is no God, mankind is lost. He is back to the primordial slime, with no answers to the “beginning and end.” This is the Catch-22 that terrorizes the thinking of the atheist. He or she has no purpose. 9. Random Minds Explaining Randomness A most hilarious observation is that people who argue that the entire universe and all life is a result of “randomness,” will yet argue their points with words that are obviously not randomly chosen and that occur at a time of their choosing. They do not see the contradiction. According to

Contrary to evolutionary theory, which would argue that human language developed slowly from primitive forms, the exact opposite evidence is found: the earliest languages (extinct for the most part) are the most sophisticated.

they hold the view that the theory of evolution is not supported by evidence (which it is not). It can only be out of a spirit that refuses to acknowledge the existence of a loving, moral and severe God. Nevertheless, evolutionism is one of the most dogged religions there is. Thoughts to Ponder The questions we have posed provide an effective test of anyone’s worldview. We have discussed 10 “randomly” selected points that are intended to encourage people’s “reasoning” to acknowledge true Wisdom; to perhaps challenge the worldly wisdom of the wise. While proper “reasoning” should lead us to open our hearts and minds to the truth of the Bible, ultimately generating obedience to a personal Savior, Jesus Christ, the fact remains that logic is not enough alone to change hearts. Why did God require that we first believe and take the step of faith, before He will open up the heavens and revelation to us? God, in His wisdom, has wanted it to be so that people must first believe in Him. Though people may have been provided with many proofs of Jesus Christ’s existence, we are still called to make a choice to “believe.” “Truly, truly I tell you, the one who believes in me has eternal life” (John 6:47). Once you have taken the a priori position that God exists and that the Bible is His Word, you will discover yourself to have adopted a belief framework that is in harmony with all known truth and facts, the beginning and the end, the purpose of the universe … the ultimate explanation of all action and impulses … none contradicting each other. As Scripture says, only then does one come out of darkness. “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness” (John 12:46).

Yet, our society taunts literal Bible-believers as being “primitive” should they hold the view that the theory of evolution is not supported by evidence (which it is not).

their perspective, creation and the very intelligence of humans is the product of random events. The very occurrence of our logical conversation with them, is therefore apparently also an accident of randomness and total coincidence. Order does not come from randomness. The second law of thermodynamics (entropy) has yet to be overturned. 10. The Answers of Evolutionism Found Wanting Evolutionism is a religious belief system that fails to satisfactorily answer the questions that hauntingly harbor in the souls of all mankind. Why do I exist? What is my purpose? What happens to “me” after I die? Is my existence meaningless? What thinking and intellectuallyhonest person will not admit such thoughts? The fact that these questions even exist, is itself a refutation of the naturalistic theories of the origin of man. Concepts such as are revealed by these questions do not and cannot “evolve” from primordial slime, nor are these organically transmitted from one living organism to another. The greatest atheist thinkers (whether scientists or philosophers) have no answer to these “why” questions. “Why does the universe even go to the bother to exist?” questions the famous physicist, Stephen Hawking. The fact that all mankind has ingrained in them such concepts as “love” and “justice,” alone proves naturalism cannot explain the inner thoughts and destinies of man. These are ideas that evolution has neither the need nor the means to develop. What human being does not feel wronged when some action is deemed to be “unfair”? Yet, our society taunts literal Biblebelievers as being “primitive” should

Human beings are highly functioning creatures that have been given a mind. The faith that is compelled by the facts and proofs of the Bible does require us to think … to reason … to process … to work out our faith. It is the cults and the religions based on falsehoods and unsupportable principles that do not tolerate questions or clear thinking. They seek to circumvent the natural defense of the mind (that being skepticism). “[…] if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved” (Romans 10:9-10). MC ENDNOTES

Why are we here? And where are we going?
Does science have an answer to these two most fundamental questions of human existence? Can mankind determine and direct the future of life on earth purely by scientific means?

What Darwin Failed to Answer...Where Dawkins Fears to Tread...

As Dave has repeatedly said throughout the production of Cosmos, Creator, and Human Destiny, “This is not the book I set out to write.” For one reason, it is not an exhaustive scientific treatise dealing purely with innumerable physical evidences. Neither is it a micro-focused academic volume that requires a degree in astrophysics to understand. Rather, Cosmos is a book that every Christian can and should read; comforting and confidence-boosting for believers, convicting and catastrophic to the skeptic’s worldview. It is a soul-arresting work that strikes to the heart of the human condition and man-centered philosophy. With shatterproof logic, it turns the arguments of atheists upon themselves, while at the same time graciously illuminating the irrefutable evidence of providence and design in every “corner” of the cosmos. The countless quotes of leading scientists and atheists (used in their original context) are alone worth the price of this lovingly written and beautifully presented hardcover.

Part II:

The Greening of Salvation
By Dr. Ron J. Bigalke

During the 50s and 60s, the secular worldview was that things functioned from a naturalistic and materialistic base. The belief that “God is dead” produced a hope in science and technology to bring utopia to the Earth. The 70s, however, introduced a paradigm shift in thinking. The “fruits” of technology had the potential for completely eradicating mankind.

t this period in time, mankind developed the technology to destroy the entire Earth with weapons of mass destruction. The 80s witnessed an acute awareness that a radical solution needed to be implemented; this solution was not to be limited geographically, but would affect the entire “global community.” Crises such as global warming and ozone depletion were impacting the community. The only remedy is proclaimed to be the implementation of global solutions for the entire planet. In the past two decades, the cry has been for a spiritual solution to global issues. Former Vice President Al Gore has been outspoken in his belief that the only solution to ecological problems is “a spiritual response” common to all religions. Evolution is believed to be the foundation for an ecumenical faith that will unite science and religion toward the salvation of the Earth from ecological disaster; the worship of “Mother Earth” as the goddess Gaia is the next step. Once humanity understands our relationship to Gaia, self-reflexive consciousness toward the Earth becomes the

priority. Some of the global warming advocates have even defined the production of carbon dioxide as “sin,” which means all humanity is guilty of a holocaust-like assault upon planet Earth. Of course, it is impossible to repent of this sin because one cannot live without putting more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The next stage in this godless belief system is to extend man’s consciousness in such a manner as to unite man and nature, at the expense of self-consciousness (this idolization of nature is quite common of the occult). For instance, shamans believe that the spirit world is in direct connection with the Earth itself. Shamans affirm belief in humanity’s “deeply spiritual relationship with Nature.” Once humanity returns to nature worship, then the Earth will be saved; it is this pagan ideology that is integral to the global warming theory. Pagan Superstition What is occurring in the world today is not only a return to pagan superstitions, but also a momentum for

a single global vision, toward a central principle for organizing the global community in order to save the environment (i.e. the institution of a global eco-regime). Former Vice President Al Gore received applause from both gurus and shamans for his book, Earth in the Balance, even though he was deeply critical of conservative Christians. Gore demonstrated his fervent support of Buddhism, Hinduism, Native American Spiritism, and the “global environment crisis.” The need for a balance between humanity and the environment is due to “an outer manifestation of an inner crisis that is for lack of a better word, spiritual!” While Christianity is deplorable, Native American religions offer “a rich tapestry of ideas about our relationship to the earth.” When President Franklin Pierce wanted to buy the land of Chief Seattle and his tribe, the Chief wanted to know, “Will you teach your children what we have taught our children. That the earth is our mother? This we know: the earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth.” To prevent an apocalypse, Americans have to be educated so the public understands the threat of global warming. However, as scientists have consistently proven, the supposed global warming threat is itself nothing more than foolish speculation. Reports from the National Climatic Data Center state that there is no substantial proof of global warming. “There are simply too many natural climate variations—which have nothing to do with humans. . . .” Moreover, the problem with attempts to equate climate change to carbon dioxide variations over time, is that to do so would require creating models that demand many variables to be transformed into constants for any modeling to be possible. However, if certain numbers are changed, then models can predict anything. “In this simple model, you can also get cooling by allowing a small variation in the fraction of sunlight that is reflected before it gets into the system. And there are other arbitrary fixed things that can be changed too, to get nearly any outcome at all.”1 The output of the model is determined by factors based upon the person creating the model, by their de-

cision to state what to make important and which arbitrarily fixed things will be made constant. The models cannot be regarded as equal to real climate, and therefore, they do not have any predictive power in the real world. What can be known with certainty? “The models show surface warming from adding carbon dioxide to the atmosphere because of their programming. They could yield surface cooling with different programming, without violating any physical law. All that is required is to allow things to change in the model that do, in fact, change in the atmosphere.”2 Due to lack of knowledge (“nescience”), we cannot believe in global warming. However, advocates of the theory demand our response in the absence of knowledge, which is the definition of blind faith (and as always, doing things blindly is dangerous, if not deadly). Biblical Revelation It is prudent to consider how pagan superstition, which is inherent to “global warming” theories, relates to special revelation (Scripture). God has revealed information with regard to Himself and the reality of a spiritual world beyond our own. We do not know these things based upon observation; rather, we know and believe these things based upon the fact that God has spoken. If God did not reveal the truth regarding His existence and nature, and other spiritual and eternal matters, we would be not any different from the pagans who use their imaginations to determine reality. Demanding a response based upon lack of knowledge is a crucial matter for us to consider as Christians. For example, if someone asked the names and orders of all the angels in heaven, we would have to confess we only know the names “Gabriel” and “Michael,” and that Michael is called the archangel. We could not answer any further than what God has revealed. The global warming advocates who demand action based upon lack of knowledge should not motivate us. At best, they are “chicken littles” and at worst, they are spiritual deceivers (false prophets). These advocates would have us believe certain things regarding the

Essentially, the environmental movement is not primarily about climate concerns; rather, it is a spiritual movement. world that God has created, yet their assertions cannot be known. To demand action based upon lack of knowledge with regard to creation (the general revelation) is unwarranted and should not motivate us. It is impossible to be held accountable for something that cannot be known. “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse” (Rom 1:1820). God holds all humanity accountable because the knowledge of His existence is evident. Conversely, one cannot be held accountable for lack of knowledge, or what cannot be known. The global warming advocates who claim to know what they cannot know, and demand obedience to their so-called knowledge, are deceived and deceiving with regard to the natural revelation. We should not listen to them, any more than we would obey the claims of a cult leader, such as Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism. Essentially, the environmental movement is not primarily about climate concerns; rather, it is a spiritual movement. God warned mankind with regard to those who have “exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the

Creator, who is blessed forever” (Rom 1:25). Contrary to worshiping the creation, the Creator commanded, “Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him” (Ps 33:8). The environmental movement seeks to unite all religions to save the planet, which means the world’s religions must ignore doctrinal differences and unite as one to inaugurate a new spirituality. Christians can be concerned for the environment, but must not let ecology take precedence to fulfilling the Great Commission. The concerns of the environmental movement should be an opportunity to explain the cause and only solution, who is Jesus Christ. Of course, anyone that disagrees with ecologists is thought of as a hindrance to the evolution of mankind. The momentum is for mankind to embrace a goddess religion, which was “eliminated by Christianity,” because such an understanding of Mother Goddess “offers us new insights into the nature of the human experience.” The ethical and moral issues promoted by ecology, constitute an anti-Christian agenda that seeks to eliminate knowledge of God while polluting the souls of the collective. The church needs to guard the revelation of God, which has been given authoritatively, and reject falsely named knowledge (1 Tim 6:20). God and the Environment Creation is subject to the ongoing sovereign and providential governance of God. Psalm 104:4 reads, “He makes the winds His messengers, flaming fire His minister.” The Psalmist stated that the winds do not blow by chance, and lightning does not flash by an accidental impulse. God, in the exercise of his sovereign power, rules and controls all the disturbances of the atmosphere. The creation is not infused with the necessary inherent energy to sustain itself, absent from divine providence; rather, it is God’s sustaining activity that governs the world. It is contrary to Scripture to represent God as a momentary Creator, who completed His work once for

Christians should certainly be concerned with regard to the environment. Creation is the handiwork of God. However, God is separate and distinct from His creation. all, and then left it. Considering this point especially, the church must dissent from the profane, and maintain that the presence of God’s power is evident, not less in the perpetual condition of the world than in its first creation. Even though God commanded humanity in the pre-Fall period to maintain the quality of the creation, it is God who ultimately controls and cares for it, both directly and indirectly. God created the world, and even now He preserves it; the earth and all other things endure just in as far as they are sustained by God’s power. God is not only the Creator of this Earth, but also its Sustainer. Colossians 1:16-17 teaches, “For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” God sustains our Earth; humanity is not powerful otherwise. We are to be good stewards of God’s creation. Global warming, however, lacks conclusive scientific data and is capitalizing upon people’s fears with unsubstantiated and exaggerated information. As biblical Christians, we must have the spiritual and intellectual courage to learn from the Word of God with regard to the great implications for whatever our situation demands. Nature is not better without humanity, contrary to global warming extremists. Man is the steward of nature under God. The only basis for science (as the early scientists knew) is the set of conditions provided in the Word of God (viz. a nature ruled by rational purpose, a mind designed to interpret nature—under the authority of special revelation—as almost all early scientists believed). “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease” (Gen 8:22). As the Bible declares, nature has been designed for a purpose— to bear witness to our Creator, Redeemer, and Judge. It is through nature that His sovereign provi-

dence affects the affairs of mankind, “that unbelieving man might blindly fumble for Him and find Him.” It is not some imagined, vague set of “natural laws” that controls nature; rather, it is God’s “contracts” or covenants, covenants revealed explicitly in Scripture. In faithfulness to the Noahic Covenant, God has said, “I set my rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth” (Gen 9:13). Conclusion Christians should certainly be concerned with regard to the environment. Creation is the handiwork of God. However, God is separate and distinct from His creation. He created all things, but God is not all things. It is because God created all things that Christians are responsible to care for the environment. The worship of nature is, of course, pagan idolatry (Rom 1:18-32). The solution to the problem is not an eco-agenda; rather, the answer is entering into a relationship with Jesus Christ as God and Savior. Man must not fall into the folly of worshiping the creation rather than the Creator. Furthermore, the Christian mandate is not to save the earth, but to be active in proclaiming the Gospel so that souls may be saved, and making disciples of those who have been saved. Christ said that He was “not of this world” (John 8:23). Indeed, this world is “reserved unto fire against the day of judgment” (2 Pet 3:7). The folly of adopting an earth-based salvation is to commit spiritual suicide. Christians need to be active as good stewards of God’s creation, but more so in explaining to a world that is perishing that the solution to man’s dilemma is to (455) be found in Jesus Christ.

“Therefore, brethren, stand fast,
and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle” (2 Thessalonians 2:15).
B y A r n o F r o e s e
We are not instructed to attack, neither to confront, but simply to stand on Calvary’s victory ground! Many dear Christians expend their time, energy, and means in fighting the wrong enemy—flesh and blood. But that will not lead to victory, rather defeat. When we mingle in Satan’s territory, we remove ourselves from Calvary’s territory of victory. James gives us the following instruction: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). Then in verse 8, “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” Often, we make the mistake of “drawing nigh to God” without first resisting the devil. Standing means resolutely saying no to sin. James uses rather strong words toward us: “Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness” (James 4:8-9).

taught. The Apostle Paul gives us detailed information about our standing in Ephesians 6, where he identifies the enemy, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (verse 12). That means the things we may identify in flesh and blood are not our enemies, rather the powers of darkness, the spiritual wickedness in the invisible world—“spiritual wickedness in high places.” What are we to do? “To stand against the wiles of the devil.” In verse 13 we read, “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Verse 14 continues, “Stand therefore.” These are the instructions to victoriously stand against the spiritual darkness originating from the god of this world.

omy and finance, is prophetically 1. demonstrating clouds of coming judgment. This extreme apprehension is expressed by the news media from all across the globe. No one can say for sure what will happen next. The United States is sinking deeper and deeper in debt. The European Union is faced with an unprecedented and quite unexpected problem—the euro. The Arab world is in an uproar. While Tunisia and Egypt have deposed their leaders, no one knows what will happen next. In Israel, large protest marches call for more socialism. It seems that the only positive news comes from communist China. Their economy continues to grow year-afteryear, accumulating immense riches; thus, they are able to play the benevolent nation—helping those who are in debt.

Midnight Call Missionaries
Based on the information I have at hand, our last “Missions Update” appeared in Midnight Call magazine, December 2008. Many of our dear friends have asked, “What happened? Have the missionaries ceased to work? Are the stations closed? Have we stopped our missionary outreach?” Happily, we can answer all these questions with a decided no! Our missionaries continue to operate in various capacities and in many countries and continents. The reason for the missing “Missions Update” is primarily due to time, space and translation. We are aware that most of our readers and supporters have their own obligations regarding missionaries through their respective churches. But there are still many who are not actively participating in missionary outreach. If these few words have any purpose, then it is to encourage you, dear reader, to support missionaries. Time means simply getting things together for publication, which involves more than most of us know. Then there is space in our magazine, in which we have given priority to articles related to prophetic issues globally—that is the calling of Midnight Call Ministries. Most important, however, is translation. Virtually all of our missionaries do not correspond in English; thus, translation is required and that, needless to say, is costly. These are just a few of the reasons why you have not read “Missions Update” in Midnight Call magazine.

The Church
In the midst of all this, there is the Church of Jesus Christ, consisting of born again believers, sealed by the Spirit of God. They are in this world, but not of it. Our aim is vertical, not horizontal. We are not looking for success, the betterment of our country, or a change in the economic or financial situation; we are “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13). He hasn’t come yet, but we continue to stand fast on His Word, His promises. One day we will be in the place He has prepared for all who love Him. That’s the call of all Christians standing on His Word. It especially encourages our missionaries who serve in the various foreign countries, who also stand on the solid Word of God. What a joy it is when we hear and read reports from missionaries that many who were once in darkness have come to the light, breaking through to a living faith in Jesus Christ our coming Lord.

International Editions
A special international edition of Midnight Call in English began in 1989. The magazine, containing prophetic oriented messages as well as prophecy related news and “Letters to the Editor,” was published for Asia and Africa.
OCTOBER 2011 25

In India, our coworker John Ishmael is responsible for the publication and distribution to various Asian countries. For Africa, the magazine was printed and distributed by Evangel Publishing House in Nairobi, Kenya. Presently, we had to discontinue the publication in Africa due to communication problems and other difficulties in that country. Midnight Call Ministries pays for the production and distribution, including postage, to the various distributors. The local missionaries receiving the magazines are responsible for individual distribution and subscription collection to the benefit of their own local ministry.

outreaches is targeted toward school children. The headquarters in Riberalta operates a relatively large public school with the granted privilege by the government to allow religious (Bible) instruction for the children. Many come to a living knowledge of Jesus Christ our Lord. Also in the city of Riberalta, Midnight Call operates a Christian bookstore offering no less than 1500 resources.

With a special equipped literature bus, our missionaries visit the most remote places in this gigantic country with blessed results. Here again, we experience that our Lord continues to build His Church, using the missionaries and the local believers as His tools in His hand. In Argentina, Midnight Call missionaries also operate a small printing plant, producing tracts and booklets in Spanish.

Chamada da Meia-Noite In 1968, Midnight Call International (Switzerland) established the headquarters for Brazil in Porto Alegre. A missionary printing plant was built some time later. All of Midnight Call’s literature in Portuguese, as well as some Spanish language resources are produced at the Midnight Call printing plant in Porto Alegre. Our Brazilian missionaries report of continuous growth, particularly through effective utilization of the internet. Brazil’s Annual Prophecy Congress continues to grow in attendance year-byyear. Just recently, we were informed that the Prophetic Congress Tour, scheduled for May 2012 from Brazil to Israel, is sold out.

Right in the center of Guatemala City, our missionaries operate a Christian bookstore with rather amazing results. Tens of thousands of Bibles, Christian books, and millions of tracts are being distributed. Our missionaries are responsible for the Spanish edition of Midnight Call.

Others are still serving with their children and grandchildren, proclaiming, testifying, and demonstrating that only Jesus saves and that He is coming again. One of the very effective missionary outreaches is Radio El Libertador. This radio station, owned and operated by Midnight Call Ministries, proclaims the wonderful Gospel 24 hours a day.

Beth Shalom Midnight Call’s missionaries Hotel throughout Central and South America, as well as on the European continent, are 100 percent supported by Midnight Call International (Switzerland). Our missionaries in Asia and Africa receive subsidies. What is important to emphasize is that those receiving support from the U.S.A. are in dire need because of the continuous devaluation of the dollar in relationship to other currencies. We pass this information on with the hope that we will be able to give additional details directly from the missionaries, as we have done in the past. We should always remember that our task here on earth, as the Church of Jesus Christ, is not complete yet. “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58). MC

Lastly, we want to mention the important work in Israel. There, we operate the Beth Shalom Hotel on Mount Carmel. This is a Christian hotel, but is open to the public and serves all who come. Prayer, Bible reading and study are part of this work. Beth Shalom is our physical contact in Israel, and the Executive Directors are responsible for distribution of funds received primarily from Europe, which assist various Israeli projects, particularly hospitals. Since 1992, Beth Shalom has been administering our Action for Israel fund. They are able to witness firsthand the needs of missionary organizations and local churches. We deliberately do not publish names or addresses, since doing so could endanger the recipients of our help. Incidentally, that’s the system we followed during the days of the Soviet Union, when our special “behind the Iron Curtain” staff supplied churches and individuals with Bibles, literature, tape recordings, and LP records. This work was kept totally hidden, and even coworkers were not informed of the various avenues used to successfully supply resources to our brethren behind the Iron Curtain. Thus, because of the sensitivity, we choose not to give further details and kindly ask not to inquire about it.

How Dare Mr. Pflaum!
Norbert Lieth/Rene Malgo The articles by Johannes Pflaum on conspiracy theories are offensive! What does he know of the people (Dr. Rebecca Brown, Father Alberto Rivera, Des Griffin) and associations which he slanders with evil lies? The “suggestions” of Mr. Pflaum do not belong in the Midnight Call!
t is unfortunately a fact that Des Griffin is an anti-Semite who is very close to the right-wing radical camp. He has a website called “Midnight Messenger,” on which a very malignant, slanderous article against Israel can be found. In other articles, he continually uses the Bible, but the direction of his articles is very nationalistic. Unfortunately, it is also true that Rebecca Brown, Alberto Rivera and John Todd have lied to us Christians. Rebecca Brown’s true name is Ruth Irene Bailey. She was a medical doctor until her license was revoked in 1984. Rebecca Brown had a particularly close relationship with a woman called Elaine, whom she wrote about in her book He Came to Set the Captives Free, and who was allegedly married to Satan. The Christian organization Personal Freedom Outreach, which concerns itself with false doctrines and cults, investigated her claims. They published the result of their investigations in the detailed report, “Drugs, demons and delusions: the ‘amazing’ saga of Rebecca Brown.” The authors introduced their article with the following words: “A marriage to the devil, hospitals and city governments run by Satan worshippers, a camp in the woods for witches

and a one-woman war against the forces of darkness,” these and other things are told by two women, one of which is a former witch, the other a physician who claims to have delivered her from demonic bondage. Rebecca Brown and Elaine (her surname is never used) told their story to Jack Chick, who published them in the form of two audio cassettes (“Closet Witches” 1 and 2) and in two books (He Came to Set the Captives Free and Prepare for War.) The results of their investigation are clear and show that Elaine and Rebecca were under the influence of drugs: “It is impossible to say exactly whether and how far Elaine and Rebecca really were in contact with Satan when they were under the influence of drugs. On the other hand, we can be sure that their condition, which was influenced by drugs, did not give them any revelations that came directly from God. It is possible that both of them nourished and widened their interpretations through their own imaginations. Their perception of the facts and their personal experiences seem very similar to the pictures you see in certain mirrors: the picture is there, but it is a complete distortion of reality.”

How Dare Mr. Pflaum!

We as Christians are only obliged to speak the truth, and should avoid giving room to speculation, lies and alleged conspiracies which do not correspond with the truth at all costs, however interesting they may seem. The story of Rebecca and Elaine, with their unbiblical claims and their sinful origins, seems to be very inconsistent when we compare it with the standard of God’s Word. On top of this, we cannot ignore the huge number of documents and testimonies of witnesses including the police, doctors, lawyers, family members and acquaintances. Neither can we believe the claim that they are all a part of Satan’s plan to discredit Rebecca and Elaine. It is no better where Alberto Rivera is concerned. Back in 1981, Christianity Today and Cornerstone Magazine concerned themselves with Rivera’s claims. They wanted to know whether Alberto Rivera really was a former Jesuit father and a reliable source of the “secret information” which he spread. Both magazines came to the conclusion that Rivera was a swindler. He lied about his background (e.g. his marriage, his sister, the time of his leaving the Catholic Church) and withheld information concerning his own past (e.g. credit card theft and fraud.) His claims were used by Jack Chick, the evangelist, to warn of Catholicism in Christian “Action” Comics. It is certainly justified to criticize the Catholic Church, but we do not need to attribute world conspiracies which never existed to her. The claims of Chick and Rivera went beyond the mark. In the comic “The Godfathers,” a few historical atrocities of the Catholic Church are mentioned and shown. But the whole is mixed with a great deal of fiction and sold as enlightenment. The Jesuits, for instance, are said to have founded Communism and supported the Russian revolution. They are also said to have caused the First World War, put an end to the Weimar Republic and initiated the Second World War. Hitler, Mussolini and also General Franco of Spain were, according to “The Godfathers,” the leaders of the fronts of the Jesuits, their “defenders of the faith.” This is only part of the theses that are set out in “The Godfathers.” Ultimately, according to Chick and Rivera’s opinions, the Jesuits are behind everything evil in the world. John Todd also is in reality a swindler. In May 1987, Todd was arrested and charged with rape. A charge of sexually molesting two children followed. In January 1988, he was found guilty of rape and sentenced to 30 years in prison. In 2004 he was released, but committed to the Behavioral Disorder Treatment Unit of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health, where he died. Several Christian ministries investigated Todd’s claims and exposed them as lies. Among these were the Cornerstone Magazine of the Christian Research Institute, Christianity Today and even the book The Todd Phenomenon by Darryl E. Hicks. In the “Todd investigation” of Cornerstone Magazine, it is clear that John Todd made false statements concerning his past and his life. Already in his time as a supposed Christian, he is said to have continued to sell occult books and to teach sorcery. Moreover, he was convicted of sexual offences concerning minors in the 1970s. According to army medical reports, he was emotionally unstable and there was mention of possible brain damage. Back in 1979, Christianity Today saw to it through a detailed report that Todd was no longer invited by most evangelicals. Jack Chick was the only evangelical who continued to defend him. Through him, Todd was unfortunately able to have so much influence in evangelical circles. This is the truth, and Mr. Pflaum was right in writing this article. We as Christians are only obliged to speak the truth, and should avoid giving room to speculation, lies and alleged conspiracies which do not correspond with the truth at all costs, however interesting they may seem. “[Love]…rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth” (1 Corinthians 13:6). “Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another” (MR0511/445) (Ephesians 4:25).

Energy Company Attempts to Buy USA SunPower
French energy company Total SA offered to pay up to $1.37 billion for a majority stake in U.S. solar company SunPower Corp, one of the biggest moves ever by an oil and gas giant into the market for renewable energy.
Solar power has been one of the fastest growing energy industries in recent years, but still remains tiny compared with oil, gas and coal because of its higher cost. With Total’s financial heft behind it, SunPower said solar energy would become competitive with fossil fuels more quickly. “It’s a vote of confidence from a much larger company and a vote of confidence for the solar industry as a whole,” Wedbush analyst Christine Hersey said. According to SunPower Chief Executive Officer Tom Werner, Total preferred to keep its stake at 60 percent rather than buy the company outright because it wanted to maintain the Silicon Valley company’s “entrepreneurial pace.” It was Total that first approached SunPower regarding a deal, Werner said on a conference call with analysts. The oil giant looked at 200 solar companies over 2 years, Werner said. At the same time, SunPower spent the last year weighing options for how it could finance its aggressive expansion plans. The rapid emergence of Chinese solar panel makers in the recent years has driven the price of solar power down sharply and stepped up competition in the market. Chinese players have also benefited from billions of dollars in credit guarantees from government banks at a time when traditional financing sources became more difficult to access for their U.S. and European counterparts. Werner said the Total deal would make SunPower more competitive against that industry backdrop because it will provide San Jose, California-based SunPower with up to $1 billion of

EU Inventors Happy to Ditch ‘Wasteful’ Patent System

Croatian will become the 24th EU language. (EUobserver)

Croatian will become the 24th official European language once Croatia becomes a member of the EU, despite questions about its similarity to the Western Balkan languages. Officials made the decision during talks on Croatia’s accession when the negotiating chapter on institutions was closed. In most cases, the EU simply accepts the official language of an acceding country as one of its official languages. But in the case of Croatia there had been concerns that some member states would demand that only a single language, a hybrid of Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian and Montenegrin that is understood throughout the region, be admitted. Such a language would not be changed when other Western Balkan states eventually acceded to the EU in order to reduce translating and interpreting costs. The idea was never proposed officially but diplomats and members of parliament suggested it would be logical if so many people speak the same language under different names. As a model they pointed to the UN’s International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague where proceedings are translated into a Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian vernacular called BHS. The EU rule foresees that a language enshrined as official in a joining country’s constitution will become an official EU language as well. This status was awarded to Czech and Slovakian, two languages as similar to one another as Croatian is to Serbian. Statements by Czech officials and Czech films broadcast on Slovak TV are not translated. Beside the additional burden of Serbian, Bosnian or Montenegrin, the case of Macedonia is likely to pose additional linguistic problems. Many Bulgarians do not recognize the existence of a distinct Macedonian language while Greece objects against the neighboring country’s use of the names Macedonia and Macedonian., 24 November 2010

Marching Toward EU Membership
Ukraine’s authorities will never sheer away from the course toward European integration, Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov said.
“Now we are laying solid grounds for Ukraine’s European future. If our country is rich, self-sufficient, European entry will be smooth and easy for us,” he said appearing at the Zhatva-2011 (Harvesting) ethno festival outside Kiev. “Ukraine’s future depends on the Ukrainian people, not on hysterics or advisers.” “We shall go through all trials we are facing, through hard demagogy, hypocrisy, sanctimony, deception, populism, treachery, and betrayal tests, through all of this to come out only stronger,” he stressed. Earlier, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Konstantin Grishchenko said that the association agreement is highly likely to be signed before the year-end. “We are working to sign the association agreement with the European Union, including on a free trade zone, before the end of 2011,” he said. In the meantime, the news of former Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko’s arrest was met with concern in the European Union. Catherine Ashton, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission, and Stefan Fule, the European Union Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy, made a statement. “The EU and other international partners of Ukraine have repeatedly underlined the need for fair, transparent and independent legal processes to avoid any perception of a policy of selective justice,” they said in the statement. “[These] events are therefore a cause for concern about the state of the rule of law in Ukraine.” ”We urge Ukraine to uphold the principles and common values that form the core of the Eastern Partnership,” they stressed., 6 August 2011

Geographically, Ukraine belongs to Europe; subsequently, Ukraine will have to be added as a member in the European Union. However, to be a member, the applicant nation must comply with multiple laws and bylaws issued by the EU. At this point in time, there are several issues that must be settled first, such as government transparency and the level of human rights. In March of 2000, Ukraine abolished the death penalty, a requirement by the Consul of Europe. Also, the arrest of former Prime Minister Tymoshenko has caused concern, clearly voiced by the President of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek. Quite naturally, these issues will be resolved in the not too distant future, as they must be overcome to prepare for membership in the European Union. Money is the greatest issue. Ukraine’s GDP is listed at $6,650 per capita, while their Russian neighbors stand at $15,836, and European Union members $32,000. The process of unification of Europe is irreversible; even with the great burden of accepting a dozen former Soviet Union countries in 2004 and 2007, the EU has become the world’s largest economy, with the highest imports and exports globally. This means fulfillment of the union’s motto, “United in Diversity.” This success establishes a precedent, not only for Europe but also for the rest of the world. As Bible students, we must keep the goal in mind, which is political, economic and religious unity.

Church Says Don’t Baptize Muslim Converts
Several Swedish publications are reporting that the Church of Sweden will advise its pastors not to baptize converts from Muslim countries who are seeking asylum in Sweden.
A draft letter from the bishops notes that being baptized can mean a risk of death if the convert is returned to his home country. The draft also states that a person who is baptized “has a responsibility to remain active in a Church of Sweden congregation,” and thus a person who may be deported from Sweden is not eligible. The draft is expected to be approved at the next bishops’ meeting. The draft was written by Helene Egnell, a staff member of the Stockholm diocese who works at the Center for Religious Dialog. She was most recently noted for her outspoken defense of the hiring of Imam Othman Al-Tawalbeh for youth work by Sofia Congregation in Stockholm. (After much criticism, the Imam’s position was transferred to Fryshuset, the Stockholm YMCA, but his salary is still funded by Sofia Congregation). Critics of the draft letter note that the Great Commission does not exclude asylum seekers, and that the “requirement” to remain active in a Church of Sweden congregation is apparently not explained to Swedish parents (a majority of children are still baptized, but average worship attendance is less than two percent). An editorial in Smalands Post describes the draft decision as “a belittling of the significance of faith and Baptism for the individual.” The editorial also questions whether the intention of the draft letter is to improve relations with other religions.

Sweden can be considered one of the super rich countries; well organized, disciplined, a neutral nation governed by socialism. The country is considered one of the best to live in globally. Their population stands at about 9 million, of which 87 percent belong to the Lutheran church. Yet, only about 2 percent attend church regularly. Sweden’s prosperity certainly contributes toward their virtual non-interest in religion, which has become relatively meaningless. So, this new proposal not to baptize converts from Muslim lands comes as no surprise. But, such action denies the very foundation of the Church’s commission: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 28:19).

port, Songdo International Business District already has 22,000 residents and only one third of it is built. By 2015, 1,000 new buildings will be standing and one of the greenest cities on earth will be completed. About 40% is green space—there is a Central Park with desalinated sea water lakes—and the opera house, library, museum, many of the restaurants and American-style malls are no more than a 12.5-minute walk apart. Stan Gale, the developer who was tasked with building the sustainable metropolis to meet the needs of a growing world population, claims that the buildings will use 20% less water and 14% less electricity than traditional ones. It is thought that China alone will need 500 Songdo-type cities by 2030 to house and employ an urban population of one billion, and Gale is in talks to build in several cities, like Chongquin, Wuxi and Dalian. In the next five years, China’s central government plans to invest $230 billion and build 45 new airports, raising its current number from 175 airports to 220. And perhaps, each of them will have their own Songdo., 22 March 2011

Travel-Friendly Utopian City Plan
In Songdo, South Korea, on land reclaimed from the Yellow Sea, bikes and electric cars have the right of way; houses and offices have a single switch to turn off appliances and air conditioning; and all the water is recycled.
The “aerotropolis”—which some have called the future of urban planning—was designed as a centrally-located home for companies (and their employees) who do business with China and the rest of Asia. The city is linked by a bridge to Incheon International Airport. By air, Shanghai is an hour away and Tokyo an hour and a half. The size of central Manchester or downtown Boston, and halfway between Seoul and the air-

Lately, many gigantic building projects and technology achievements are heralding from the East. This is part of the process— Asia awakening. The world’s largest continent, with the greatest population, is increasingly garnering headlines in the media. Biblical geography is determined by the geographic location of Israel. It is, therefore, significant that at the birth of Christ, three wise men came from the East: “Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him” (Matthew 2:1-2). East of Jerusalem lies Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and

then China. While these three unnamed men came from the East, they also testify that they saw the star in the East. This prophetically points to the world of the Gentiles. It is a reminder of God’s unfathomable grace. In Psalm 103:12 we read, “As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.” It seems also significant that the tribe of Judah, the royal tribe from whence Jesus came, took up position in the east side of the camp, as recorded in Numbers 2:3: “And on the east side toward the rising of the sun shall they of the standard of the camp of Judah pitch throughout their armies.” Prophetically, judgment will also come from the East: “And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared” (Revelation 16:12). These kings are demonic entities of the East. They will converge upon the center of the world: Israel. There, the nations of the world— the East and the West—will face judgment, and that because of Israel: “And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction” (Zechariah 4042 1:15).

Chinese Secretly Copy Austrian UNESCO Town
An idyllic Austrian village has apparently impressed Chinese architects so much that they have decided to copy it in their own country. But the townspeople living in the UNESCO World Heritage site are unhappy about the plans.
Residents of the Austrian mountain town of Hallstatt, population 800, are scandalized. A Chinese firm has plans to replicate the village—including its famous lake—in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong, Austrian media reported. Architects secretly set their sights on the picturesque town in recent months, said Mayor Alexander Scheutz. “The people are not very amused that this has happened behind their backs,” he told German news agency DPA. The leader of the lakeside town in the picturesque Salzkammergut region heard about the plans coincidentally through an Austrian economic delegation in Hong Kong where the Chinese real estate company responsible inquired about arranging a partnership between the two cities. “Spying” by Chinese architects would not have been conspicuous in Hallstatt, where there are up to 800,000 visitors each year who “photograph everything and everyone, Scheutz told Austrian news agency APA. Representatives from the Alpine village’s historic church are also concerned. Copying a house of God for use as a tourist attraction is problematic, Catholic priest Richard Czurylo told daily Die Presse, adding that at the very least, the new church must be declared a place of prayer. This isn’t the first time a Chinese firm has used a European place as inspiration. The Chinese city of Anting, some 30 kilometers

from Shanghai, created a district designed to accommodate 20,000 residents called “German Town Anting.” Modeled after a typical mid-size German city by architecture firm Albert Speer & Partner, it includes Bauhaus style architecture and a fountain with statues of Goethe and Schiller. In 2005 Chengdu British Town was modeled on the English town of Dorchester. One year later Thames Town was finished near Shanghai, complete with a 66-meter tall church that bears a striking resemblance to a cathedral in Bristol. Also near Shanghai are mini versions of Barcelona, Venice and the Scandinavian-inspired Nordic Town. The architectural plagiarisms are popular destinations among middle-class Chinese, even serving as backdrops for wedding photos., 16 June 2011

Is China attempting to replace Europe as the world’s most favorite attraction? That is the question many Europeans ask and occasionally protest about. Others see the influx of Chinese tourists wanting to see the original as a benefit. This reminds us of our heavenly residence, the one Jesus left almost 2,000 years ago when He said, “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also” (John 14:2-3). That mansion or “dwelling place” is infinitely more than anyone on earth can imagine. The citizens of that place are those who have washed their garments in the blood of the Lamb. They have eternal security and have cast off their natural citizenship in exchange for a heavenly one, “Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God” (Ephesians 2:19).

Stricter Gun Control Implemented Two Suns in the Sky in 2012?
That might not sound like much, but it would be the only time such an event has occurred since the year 1054, when the Crab Nebula exploded. As for the 2012 connection, “the Mayan Will we on earth be seeing two thing—that’s just whacked,” said Simpson, suns in the sky? who says the Internet and instant media are at least partly Cosmic phenomenon: The responsible for connecting the Earth could soon very real possibility of Betelsee two suns— just like Luke geuse exploding with the scienSkywalker saw on tifically questionable date for the Tatooine in the Star Wars film end of the world.
-Kansas City Star, 30 January 2011

The news that the star Betelgeuse (pronounced beetle-juice) is about to explode so spectacularly that it will appear as a second sun in our sky has been floating around the Internet for several months. But it gained credibility when a physics lecturer at the University of South Queensland in Australia was quoted as saying that such an event could happen next year, which happens to be when the Mayan calendar runs out. Many have said that 2012 will be the end of the world. The possibility of a supernova adds weight to those who believe the Mayan apocalypse prophecy. Betelgeuse is a bright red supergiant star positioned in the right shoulder of the constellation Orion, the hunter...rising in the east right after sunset. “We’ve known for a very long time that Betelgeuse is massive enough to end its life as a supernova,” said Carolyn Simpson, a physics professor at Florida International University in Miami. “It could go supernova in the next five minutes, or in a million years,” Simpson said. “We have no way of telling.” And it won’t be as bright as our sun, though it could be brighter than a full moon— at night. It would be visible in the daytime, looking like a bright star or a pinprick in the daytime sky, then fading over days or weeks, Simpson said.

Dates come and go. Each prediction failed in the past and will do so in the future. We agree with the physics professor Carolyn Simpson, who said, “The Mayan thing—that’s just whacked.” What is important to notice is the Bible’s reference to the stars in the sky. We know, for example, that the sun will be darkened and the moon will lose her shine. Isaiah 13:10 reads, “For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.” The prophet Amos gives this advice, “Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name” (Amos 5:8). In other words, seek not the creation but the Creator. 4152

The Public Security Ministry is amending weapons licensing regulations in an effort to reduce the number of gun permits issued to Israeli civilians. The changes include eliminating gold and diamond dealers from the list of people whose occupation qualifies them for gun ownership, and giving preference to permits held by institutions rather than individuals. According to the latest figures available to the ministry’s firearms department, 173,818 permits to possess and carry guns have been issued to individuals in Israel. The vast majority of these are for handguns, although a few thousand permits are for hunting rifles, air rifles or small-bore rifles. An additional 130,000 institutional permits have been issued. These are issued to organizations, including private companies, with employees whose work requires them to carry a gun, and that meet ministry requirements. Most of these deal with training and protective equipment for the users. The number of gun permits issued has declined significantly over the years. The peak was in 1995, during the height of the state’s “fun for every citizen” policy, when 330,000 Israelis were licensed to carry firearms. In the last decade alone, that number has declined by about 100,000. The main reason for the decline was the tightening of requirements for obtaining a permit, including licensing fees and proficiency requirements, which discouraged individuals without a genuine need for a gun to continue renewing their licenses. In addition, thousands of permits issued in the 1990s were not renewed because their owners no longer complied with health requirements, or no longer met occupational or other requirements. Another contributory factor was the tightening of supervision, as well as reducing the validity period for gun permits from five years to three. Public Security Ministry officials even admitted that some blind people had gun permits., 9 August 2011

Terrorism Danger... Spaceships... Allah or Jehovah?
Terrorism Danger Advice from an Israeli agent. Juval Aviv. He was Golda Meir’s bodyguard, and she appointed him to track down the Palestinian terrorists who took the Israeli athletes hostage and killed them during the Munich Olympic Games. He predicted the London subway bombing, and within a week the terrorist attack had occurred. Juval Aviv gave intelligence to the Bush Administration about 9/11, a month before it occurred. Now for his future predictions. He predicts the next terrorist attack on the U.S. will occur this summer. Aviv says the next terrorist attack here in America is imminent and will involve suicide bombers and non-suicide bombers in places where large groups of people congregate (like Disneyland, Las Vegas casinos, big cities),

and that it will also include shopping malls, subways in rush hour, train stations, etc. as well as rural America this time. The hinterlands. The attack will be characterized by simultaneous detonations around the country (terrorists like big impact, involving at least 5-8 cities, including rural areas). Aviv says terrorists won’t need to use suicide bombers in many of the larger cities, because at places like the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, they can simply valet park a car loaded with explosives and walk away. He also says the next level of terrorists, over which America should be most concerned, will not be coming from abroad. Instead, they will be “homegrown,” having attended and been educated in our own schools and universities right here in the U.S. He says to look for students who fre-

Recently, a new religion called “Chrislam” has come to my attention. It is my understanding that Chrislam, sometimes called “the emerging church,” is a blend of Christianity and Islam. Furthermore, it is also my understanding that in Chrislam, they preach from both the Bible and the Qur’an. I pray that you do not get swept up in this movement or new religion.
quently travel back and forth to the Middle East. These young terrorists will be most dangerous because they will know our language and will fully understand the habits of Americans, but that we Americans won’t know/understand a thing about them. Aviv recently created/executed a security test for our Congress, by placing an empty briefcase in five well-traveled spots in five major cities. The results? Not one person called 911 or sought a policeman to check it out. In fact, in Chicago, someone tried to seal the briefcase! Unfortunately, America hasn’t yet been hurt enough by terrorism for their government to fully understand the need to educate its citizens, or for the government to understand that it’s their citizens who are, inevitably, the best first-line of defense against terrorism.
-T. Payne, NY

Answer: Information obtained online reveals there are many unanswered questions about Juval Aviv. There is no proof he ever worked for the Mossad, neither that he gave legitimate intelli-

gence about the 9/11 attack. He is a good orator and writes prolific books, and has been quite popular since 9/11. But there are enough sources that simply dismiss these claims and multiple repetitive warnings. How real international terrorism is can be analyzed when taking the terrorists by their word. Without ceasing, they have threatened Europe and the United States with destruction. But what have they done? Nothing! Why not? Because they have no power. Their “best terrorists ever” were killed in the 9/11 attack. Simply by enumerating hundreds of possibilities about terrorism, and if by chance one unrelated, but similar event does take place, then those prognosticators usually say, “I told you so.” Unfortunately, we cannot deny that the greatest terror threat is homegrown. Statistics reveal that every year, 25-30,000 American “terrorists” kill American citizens with firearms. If you multiply the average by 10, it equals 275,000 American citizens killed by firearms since 9/11. Now the important issue: the Bible tells us that there will NOT be peace until the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ our Lord, returns. He is the only security for believers. When He comes, He

will abolish weapons of war, according to Micah 4:3: “And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.”

Spaceships Dear Mr. Froese, A major NASA engineer, J. F . Blumrich, wrote a book called The Spaceships of Ezekiel. He describes a spacecraft with rocket noise and fire beneath. This is in the first chapter of Ezekiel. The spacecraft lands and takes off and even transports Ezekiel from place to place. You can make your own conclusion. I would like to get your insight on this book. I enjoy reading Midnight Call.
-R. Travis, IA

Answer: We read in the first verse of Ezekiel, “…the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.” That eliminates the interpretation of so-called “spaceships.” Ezekiel sees things indescribable, but tries to convey them with earthly terms.
OCTOBER 2011 37

Jesus is our Lord; He is God, and God is omnipresent. Any type of imagined transportation is voided by the Scripture, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9). That means all earthly interpretations and imaginations are invalidated. But we do know that it will be indescribably glorious for those who have placed their trust in the accomplished work of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Allah or Jehovah? Dear Arno Froese, Recently, a new religion called “Chrislam” has come to my attention. It is my understanding that Chrislam, sometimes called “the emerging church,” is a blend of Christianity and Islam. Furthermore, it is also my understanding that in Chrislam, they preach from both the Bible and the Qur’an. I pray that you do not get swept up in this movement or new religion. Many years ago, perhaps as early as the 2005-06 era, you and I exchanged numerous letters or emails wherein you were attempting to convince me that both Allah and Jehovah were one and the same; just as our Jesus and the Hebrew Messiah or Yeshua are one and the same.
-D. Martinez, FL

and Jehovah were one and the same” is dangerously misleading. We are speaking of languages, not of the identity of the God of Israel or the god of Islam. Most of the European languages utilize Latin letters; thus, we come up with the Arabic word “Allah.” “Jehovah” is Hebrew. When a Muslim prays to Allah, he is not praying to the same God. Just recently, I talked to one of our coworkers in Switzerland, a former Palestinian Muslim who converted to a living faith in Jesus Christ. I asked the simple question, “When you pray, for example, ‘Thank you God,’ how would you say it in your language?” The answer: “Shukran Allah.” “Jehovah” has been translated in hundreds of languages; in English, it reads “God” but quite differently in other languages. For example: Isten – Hungarian; Gott – German; Bog – Serbian; Dios – Spanish; Jumala – Finnish; Gud – Swedish/Norwegian/Danish; Allah – Arabic; Eloh – Hebrew; Deus – Latin; Duw – Welsh. As you see, the translations are limited to Latin letters; it gets more complicated in other forms of writing. To help you understand, here is my question: when Mormons pray to the god imprinted on US currency, do they pray to the same God as you?

Answer: “Chrislam” is an attempt to unite the two religions. That, of course, does not represent true Bible-believing Christianity. Your statement, “You were attempting to convince me that both Allah

Bible Names Again Dear Arno Froese, In your “Letters to the Editor” in the July 2011 magazine, under the heading “Bible Names,” you answered: “Not surprisingly, at Pentecost, the audience composed of about 16 different nationalities heard the message in their respective language. That was a prophetic demonstration

that the gospel of salvation is available to the entire world.” Do you really think these nationalities were “Gentiles”? They were all Jews that heard Peter preach. That’s the reason they knew they were Galileans. These were some of the million or so that stayed up in Babylon, not the 49 or 50 thousand that returned to Israel (this does not include the 10 tribes of Israel that went up into Assyria around 700 BC, that some of them may have been there) after the temple was built in those days. What makes you think a Gentile would have come down to Israel for the Pentecost feast? These are some of the million or so Jews of the tribe of Judah that went into all the other countries around like Spain, Turkey, Germany, or all parts of Europe after Babylon fell somewhere around 400 BC. So, you’re talking about 21 generations. Believe me, by that link of time, these Jews would have come to know only their nationality language of the countries they were living in at this particular time. As far as delivering the gospel back to the entire world, that would have been impossible because the Jews and the Gentiles hated each other with a passion at Christ’s first coming.
-J. Leonard, NC

Answer: I fail to see where I indicated that the people who heard the Gospel preached in 16 different languages at Pentecost were Gentiles. They all were Jews, of course. This is confirmed when Peter addresses them in Jerusalem with the words, “Ye men of Israel” (Acts 2:22); “Let all the house of Israel” (Acts

2:36); or, in chapter 3 verse 12, “Ye men of Israel.” The remnant of the 10 rebellious tribes of Israel was added to the Jewish nation (see 2 Chronicles 11:16; 15:9). I want to mention one item you wrote: “The Jews and the Gentiles hated each other with a passion.” Actually, the Jews and the Gentiles (Romans) had a rather good relationship, based on John 11:48, Luke 7:5, and Acts 10:22. However, the Jews were instructed by God not to associate with the Gentiles; thus, Jesus said, “Do not go to the Gentiles, but only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

clarity. Can you enlighten me on these passages?

Lord’s Supper Dear Arno, I just completed reading through the Bible in six months with Alexander Scourby this morning. What a wonderful experience it was and now will start all over tomorrow. Even my wonderful 84 year old mother is doing the same. That thrills me! I have a question that I never thought of before, nor read or heard preached about. In Matthew 26:26-32, we have the Lord’s Supper. Verse 29 says, “…I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” So, that would be following the seven year tribulation period. In Revelation 19:7-9, we have the marriage supper of the Lamb. We know that takes place in heaven for believers during the seven year tribulation period. What really is the difference? Will there be no drinking at the marriage supper of the Lamb? I need better

Answer: When the Rapture takes place, we read, “And so shall we ever be with the Lord.” When the Lord is in heaven, we’ll be there; when He is on earth ruling the nations with a rod of iron, we’ll be there. As to our diet, little is revealed in Scripture, so we must leave it to the wonderful mystery described in 1 Corinthians 2:9: “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” Yet, the next verse indicates we can grasp it spiritually, but while on earth, it will remain indescribable. Indeed, the best is yet to come for those who have placed their lives in the care of the High Priest, Jesus Christ our Lord.

has written several books and appeared as a speaker in some Christian conferences. Online, he is listed as one who “tries to bridge the gap between Christians and Jews.” However, there is no evidence that such is being accomplished because of the simple fact that there is no need to try to bridge the gap between Christians and Jews. Actually we, the true Church, are part of Israel. Romans 11:17 makes this clear, “And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree.” Thus, verse 18 warns Gentiles, “Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.” That is one side of the story; the other is Galatians 3:28, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” Bridging the gap can only be accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. Any organization, movement or denomination attempting to bring about religious unity between the denominations, or as in this case between Jews and Christians, is doomed to fail. That also goes for the Ecumenical Movement. We are perfectly one in Him without any organizational infrastructure.

Mansions in Heaven Since Jesus Christ is the “Head” of the Body of Christ, all those spiritually born of His Spirit make up the Body, Ephesians 2:20. the foundation is the twelve apostles. Why, according to the KJV translation, are we looking forward to “mansions” in heaven, as though you will have yours and I will have my own, and we may/may not live next door to one another? There is much confusion about John 14:1-4; please amplify and help with understanding.
-S. Nemier, WA

Answer: 2 Corinthians 5:1 reads, “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” This fact immediately demolishes all of our imaginations of heaven including “mansions.” A clearer translation would be “dwelling place.” Do not attempt any comparison between heaven, and our present existence. Marriage, family and possessions will not continue. The Bible says, “Behold, I make all things new.” When Jesus says He goes to prepare a place for us, we should read 1 Corinthians 2:9, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”

ence to share with readers like me. Does not Psalm 2 talk about a world conspiracy…against the Lord and His Anointed? Would that fit a world conspiracy? In May 2011, “World Conspiracy – Part 2,” the author ends with a last question…why not take control of the world a long time ago? Could it be because it was not in God’s timing yet? Finally, the Editor’s Note, May 2011, page 4, right-hand column says, “A revolt against the governing authority in power is not approved by God.” Would that not make the American Revolution a sin and wrong in God’s eyes? What about an attempt to revolt against other oppressive regimes like the USSR, Nazis, communist Romania, etc.? Should Christians always submit to whatever type of tyranny is the governing power? Thanks for your response.
-R. Kobiljak, TX

Global Conspiracies Dear Editor: First, let me say I enjoy your magazine and its articles. I have been a subscriber for a couple of years now. In regard to “World Conspiracy – Part 1” in the April 2011 edition, page 35, right-hand column, the author states he found that John Todd, Rebecca Brown…were untrustworthy and liars….” May I ask for his refer40

Answer: Your question about John Todd, Rebecca Brown, etc. is answered by the article that appears on pages 28-29. The various theories brought forth about world dominion by identifiable persons or organizations have always proved wrong. The Antichrist, under the direction of the god of this world, will only appear after the Rapture. Psalm 2 is not a conspiracy but a prophetic statement that all the world, all governments, all people at all times continue to oppose the Lord Jesus Christ’s claim that He is the only way, the truth and life.

If the various organizations such as the Illuminati, Freemasons, Bilderbergers, etc. had intended to control the world, then indeed they would have done so long ago. Caution is recommended when sensationalism is proclaimed. Now to the Editor’s Note: either we believe in God’s Word such as Romans 13 and 1 Peter 2:13-17, or we don’t. Whether the French, the Americans, the Communists, or now, the Arab Revolution, it’s all part of the overall strategy of the god of this world to ultimately unite every nation of the world. Look at Europe as an example. The most diverse continent on earth. They have fought innumerable wars with one another for millenniums. What was the purpose? Unity. Now, war among the European nations is all but impossible. Our task as Christians is to let our light so shine, the light of the Gospel, that it will liberate people who are in darkness. It is not my task to decide what government tyranny is. When you read British history about the colonies who rebelled, they were considered tyrants. The Founding Fathers considered the British tyrants. Canada or Australia did not consider the crown to be tyrannical and did not rebel, yet have greater freedom than the USA. I hope this shows how important it is for us to fulfill our calling—not mingling in the territory of Lucifer. There are no two ways about it; if I am redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, I have a task that lasts all my life, and I will not find time to get involved in the affairs of this world. The Bible says, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the

love of the Father is not in him” (1 John 2:15).

Faith of Jesus Christ Dear Arno Froese, I enjoy the magazines you publish. I get both the Midnight Call and News From Israel. I especially like the “Letters to the Editor.” I am 74 and have been a paraplegic for almost 50 years. I have studied the Bible for many years. But I have a question which I cannot answer. What does the Bible mean by the “faith of Jesus Christ” and/or the “faith of God”? In reading the epistles of Paul, it is mentioned several times. Romans 3:3, “For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?” Romans 3:22-23, “Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Galatians 2:16, “Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.” Galatians 3:22, “But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.”

By his mother, Mary, Jesus was the Son of Man. By His father, God/Holy Spirit, Jesus was the Son of God. At 12, he was able to speak to the elders of Israel for three days with all wisdom. At the same time, He knew God was His Father. Did Jesus as the Son of God always have this wisdom? Did Jesus have to learn this wisdom from godly men, or was it all there from birth? Did the Son of Man have to by faith believe He was the Son of God?
-D. Visser, MI

tempt to explain it except to quote 1 John 5:7: “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”

Answer: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). That faith originates from God. This type of faith was first found in Abraham, “…the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all” (Romans 4:16). Although a number of translations say “faith in Jesus,” I find “faith of Jesus Christ” a better translation. Our faith leads us to “the faith of Jesus.” The reason why Jesus as “the Son of man” had wisdom, even at the age of 12, is grounded in the fact that He was perfectly obedient to the Heavenly Father. We read in Hebrews 4:15, “…but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” As “the Son of God,” He is God, but as “the Son of man,” He was limited to a normal functioning human. This is evident from Mark 13:32: “But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.” Can we explain this rationally? Sanctified Dear Brother in the Lord, I was rereading the April 2010 Midnight Call “Letter to the Editor,” discussing if children are “safe.” What does 1 Corinthians 7:14 mean where it says the believing should not put away the unbelieving spouse, for the unbelieving husband/wife is sanctified by the believing spouse, “else were your children unclean; but now are they holy”? I am 82 years old, was born in 1929, and received Christ as Savior and Lord in 1941 at age 11. I read the Bible through each year by reading 3 chapters per day. But I haven’t the past 2 years since I have been bedridden and need a caregiver to bring my Bible to me when I want it. My 52-year-old son does everything for me 24 hours each day.
-V. Black, MO

Answer: The word “sanctified” is in reference to their position. Such a person (unbeliever) is in the realm of a saint, but not saved. This term can also be applied to children who are born into Christian homes, but they still have to make their own decision regarding eternal salvation. The Lord bless your son for his sacrificial service in taking care of you. MC
