GAMES:

INTRAMURAL RACQUETBALL RULES

1. Racquetball is often played as the best of a three game series. The first two games are played to 15. The third game, if necessary, will be played to 11 points. 2. Only the server can score points. 3. If the receiver wins the rally, he/she becomes the server.

SERVE:
1. The server must stand in the serving lane, the area between the service line and the short line. The ball must be bounced before it is hit; the ball must then hit the front wall before it touches any other surface. After hitting the front wall the ball may hit one sidewall, then pass the short line before hitting the floor. The ball may not hit the back wall or ceiling in the air on the serve. The server is allowed one fault for every serve. However a second violation will result in a loss of serve. 2. There are two types of serves which will result in the loss of the serve: FAULT SERVE - on the second violation the server will lose the serve if: a. short serve- the ball bounces before crossing behind the short line. b. long serve - the ball hits the back wall before bouncing. c. three wall serve- the ball hits three walls before hitting the floor. d. the ball hits the front wall and ceiling. e. foot fault- entire foot is over the service line OUT SERVE- You will lose your serve on the first attempt if the : a. ball fails to hit the front wall first. b. ball hits the server before it bounces after hitting the front wall. c. servers swings and misses. d. ball hits the crotch on the front wall. 3. A screen ball is called when the servers body blocks the view of the opposing player. It is regarded as a fault serve

RECEIVE:
1. The receiver must stand in back court behind the dashed serve receive line. 2. The receiver may hit the ball on the bounce or fly; the ball must be hit before it bounces twice, and must be returned to the front wall before it touches the floor a second time. The ball may touch any combination of walls and ceiling on its way back to the front wall as long as the front wall is included in every volley, and it does so without bouncing on the floor a second time.

VOLLEY:
1. Once the ball bounces on the floor twice, it is out of play. 2. If the ball touches your opponent on the way to the front wall a hinder is called and the point is replayed. 3. If you are hit by a shot coming off the front wall on a bounce or a fly, you lose the volley. 4. If your opponent makes an attempt but cannot move out of the way to allow you a clear shot at the ball a hinder is called and the point is replayed. 5. If your opponent deliberately does not move to give you a clear path for the ball to travel to the front wall, an avoidable hinder is called and he or she loses the serve or point.
