Our aim through our workshop and this manual is slightly different. We wish to touch upon the very essential that brings out all these latent talents in a student. We firmly believe the contents of this manual will trigger the spark in the student and make the student shine well. Yes, our approach to build students future is psychological, in that we wish to set right the attitude of students in the positive direction, thereby the student automatically will be enthused to acquire skills on the way to become better at studies & life . So carefully preserve this manual; keep using the manual regularly as an ongoing learning process. The contents and the course are aimed at helping you lifelong. In a sense this is a life manual. This manual is essentially a companion to the student attending the special workshop for HONING ATTITUDE FOR SUCCESS IN STUDIES & CAREER The manual is designed in an easy to read and understandable format. The manual can easily shape the attitude of an aspiring student and put the student in a right frame of mind to approach studies and life, leading to success in studies and career thereafter. The manual if utilized properly will give the student the confidence to face life, accept the reality of life, and look for opportunities for growth. This manual will be relevant to all the students, good or not good at studies as of now. The manual essentially deals with attitude and so shaping attitude will pave way for success in studies and career thereafter.

HOW TO USE THE MANUAL?

The manual has QUESTIONNAIRE When answering the questions the student is asked to sincerely give the truth. This questionnaire is basically for self evaluation and so no correction or evaluation will be done by external facilitator. EVALUATION Evaluation parameter is given and the student can do self evaluation. Based on self evaluation the student can know where he/she stands in terms of attitude. DETAIL OF THE SUBJECT- The subject for training is on two aspects of attitude that prevent a student from success in studies. The two aspects are identified after intense survey and observation of students belonging to various cross-section of society. INFERIORITY COMPLEX FAILURE MENTALITY By paying attention to inputs given in the workshop the student can get clues and ways to overcome these two maladies. STORY The story relates to the attitude development LEARNING FROM THE STORY: - The participants will be asked to sit in group and will have to share their learning from the story to gain better understanding of attitude development. INFERIORITY COMPLEX

An inferiority complex is a feeling that one is inferior to others in some way. Such feelings can arise from an imagined or actual inferiority in the afflicted person. It is often subconscious, and the person suffering from this complex has a persistent feeling of worthlessness. An inferiority complex is an advanced state of discouragement, often embedding itself into one's lifestyle, and sometimes resulting in a retreat from difficulties.

Causes of Inferiority Complex

Parental attitudes and upbringing disapproving, negative remarks and evaluations of behavior emphasizing mistakes and shortcomings determine the attitude of the child before the age of six. Physical defects such as disproportional facial and body features, weight, height, strength, speech defects and defective vision cause inferiority complexes. Mental limitations cause feelings of inferiority when unfavorable comparisons are made with the superior achievements of others, Social disadvantages and discriminations family, race, economic status

SOLUTION Whatever be the cause of inferiority complex, the good news is that one can definitely come out of this imprisoning attitude by certain specific methods and practices. Accept yourself as you are Believe you are unique & nobody can be exactly like you Stop unnecessary comparison with others Believe nobody is perfect Find out your good qualities & strength Focus on the strengths Expect best from you Believe you are inferior to nobody & also superior to nobody

STORY A big lion was taking rest. Its eyes were closed during rest. So a rat in its playful mood started running over the giant lion. It was a great merry for the small rat. Irritated by the teasing play of the rat the lion got angry. It caught the rat and was about to crush it. The rat fearing death pleaded with lion to pardon it. Please king, forgive me; spare me. I shall certainly help you when you need, the rat requested. You are such a puny creature. What help can you do me? Go- so saying the lion let go the rat. Rat was not intimidated by the comment of sarcasm of lion. Rat boldly said, In Gods creation each & every creature has purpose and unique strength. I am definitely good at certain skills and I am expert in that area. Certainly I shall be of help to you someday. So saying rat left the place.

Unfortunately in a few days the rat heard the crying roar of the lion. The rat sensed that the lion must be in trouble. It rushed towards the sound and found that the lion was caught inside a net of a hunter. The lion was helpless and it could not tear the net. The rat immediately rushed and started biting the net with its sharp teeth and released the lion from the catch. The lion profusely thanked the rat and rat also felt happy. DETAIL OF THE TOPIC FAILURE MENTALITY is negative thinking. In this state of mind a person will only focus on what is not possible. With this attitude a person will only be talking of problems and difficulties. A person with failure mentality will be sure of failure than the possibilities of success. Such a person will not take initiative to do anything new; will not feel enthusiastic to participate in any new learning; will not express willingness to enroll for any new course or coaching; will stay away from competitions. Such people have more of fear of failure than surety of success. Failure mentality is also a mental affliction.

CAUSES for FAILURE MENTALITY INFERIORITY COMPLEX - a person feeling inferior in ability and performance will only doubt the positive result of action. PAST EXPERIENCE in an experience in the past the individual would have failed. This is taken as permanent and so keep on doubting the success in the future OVEREXPECTATION: - Perfection syndrome is one reason for failure mentality. I must never fail in anything I do. I must only succeed. I must do only perfectly. No mistake should come. FEAR OF FAILURE: - anticipating failure beforehand and fearing the consequence of failure

SOLUTION Success or failure is only an outcome of an effort. They are not the determinants of ability of a person. While aiming one must aim for success, at the same time if one is not able to meet with expected result one should not feel dejected and conclude one is useless. Focused and consistent efforts definitely lead to success in any assignment. While taking action never be unduly worried over result. Believe in your ability and take effort Also believe you have the right to fail though you dont want. Enthusiasm & effort give positive result. Confidence cures all mental afflictions

STORY Thomas Alva Edison, the inventor of bulb failed almost 10000 times before inventing electric bulb. Not only bulb he attempted to invent 100s of new things and failed in many projects. He lost most of his property only in his attempt to invent new things. Once his factory caught fire and all his lab equipments were burnt in fire. Edison said, Thank God! All my past mistakes are burnt and gone. Now I can start fresh. Thomas Alva Edison was attempting to invent gramophone record. The wax on the plate was not filling properly. It was becoming very late at night. His assistant became tired. He said to Edison, Sir, the wax is not filling properly. I think we are not doing it correctly. Can we do it tomorrow morning? Edison got angry and replied, We may be fools, not able to do correctly. But God who has given this desire in me is not a fool. He will show the right way. Keep filling again & again. Everything will be alright. Actually after a few attempts the wax set properly and they could make the groove correctly. Edison is a very good example for failure and also for success finally. Patience and persistence is the hallmark of Edison.
