In our presentation we talk about dictionary, what type of dictionary are there, what can we found in there, etc. So our goal was to bring audience something new about dictionary and open discussion about them. Dictionaries aren't just for looking up spellings and meanings of a broad selection of term; you'll find biographical, geographical, medical, specialized, etc. There are 5 types of specialized dictionaries. First one is reverse one. Reverse dictionary enables user to type in word or phrase and with use of advance algorithm user get closest description of word or a phrase. Second one is visual that provide user illustration of word or phrase. Best known visual dictionary is Merriam-Webster's. Other specialized dictionaries are: Beginners'/Learners', translation and unusual- words dictionaries. By the number of languages we can divide them on monolingual, bilingual and multilingual. In the scope of the speech community we can talk about general, dialect, sociolect, individual, and technical dictionary. By the direction of access to the linguistic sign we have two kinds of dictionaries : onomasiological and semasiological dictionary. We can also divide dictionaries by group of users who use them : general dictionary and language learner's dictionary. Specialized dictionaries are dictionaries that cover a relatively restricted set of phenomena, they are overwhelming in their variety and their diversity and also each area of lexical study, can have a dictionary of its own. Monolingual dictionary is a dictionary that defines words and phrases instead of translating them and all of its definitions, as well as supplementary material, is in one language. A bilingual dictionary or translation dictionary is a specialized dictionary used to translate words or phrases from one language to another. Multilingual dictionary is a dictionary that is spoken or written in several or many languages.
