with selected demographical variables.

OPERATIONAL DEFINITIONS –

Assess –

Means to explore the knowledge of staff nurses regarding instrumental delivery

with the help of structured closed ended questionnaire (multiple choice questions).

Knowledge –

It refers to the correct responses of the staff nurses regarding instrumental delivery
on structured closed ended questionnaire as evident from knowledge score.

Instrumental delivery –

An instrumental delivery is a method to assist mother to her deliver baby vaginally when
normal induction of labor is not possible, to prevent maternal and fetal complication with
appropriate nursing management. This is undertaken using either forceps or a ventouse

instrumental delivery which includes question related to maintaining aseptic techniques,
indication, contraindication, method, complications, psychological support and
management during instrumental delivery.

Scoring:-

Grade Actual score Percentage

Very poor upto – 6 0 – 20 %

VALIDITY:-

The content validity and criterion validity of the instrument will be obtained from five
experts;
two nursing experts, two gynecologist , one pediatrician..

Their opinion & suggestion will be taken to modify the tool .

RELIABILITY:-

The reliability of the tool will be established by using Test – Retest method on 5 staff
nurses in a Hospital, at Jabalpur. Karl Pearson’s correlation will be used to find out
reliability of the tool.
ETHICAL CONSIDERATION:-

1. Permission will be taken from Dean of Elgine hospital.

2. Informed consent from the will be taken from the staff nurses participating
in study.

3. Anonymity and confidentiality of the information will be maintained while

the study.
The reliability of the tool will be checked with Test – Retest method. After a self
introduction, the investigator will explain the purpose of the study to the staff nurses
individually and will collect the demographic data in a Hospital,at Jabalpur
simultaneously by Structured Closed Ended Questionnaires. The reliability of the tool
will be checked with Test – Retest method.
