Difficulty level Intermediate Size Finished bust 32 (36, 40)" [81 (91, 102) cm] Materials Elann.com Devon (100% wool; 204 yds [187 m] per 50 g) 1 (2, 2) balls each of Cafe au Lait (A), Dusty Plum (B), Green Oasis (C), and Deep Olive (D). US 4 [3.5 mm] circular needles, 24" and 16" [60 and 40 cm] long US 4 [3.5 mm] double pointed needles for edgings tapestry needle stitch markers stitch holders or waste yarn Gauge 28 sts and 40 rows = 4" [10 cm] in stockinette Techniques M1R:Insert left needle from back to front under the horizontal loop between the last st worked and the next st on needle. With right needle, knit into the front of this loop. M1L: Insert left needle from front to back under the horizontal loop between the last st worked and the next st on the needle. With right needle, knit into the back of this loop. Stripe pattern 5 rows A 5 rows B 5 rows C 5 rows D Pattern Body CO 224 (252, 280) sts. Place marker and join for working in the round. Work in stockinette, in stripe pattern, placing a second marker after the 112th (126th, 140th) stitch to mark side. Dec 1 st on each side of markers on every 10th rnd 7 times as foll: *Work to 4 sts before marker, k2tog, k2, sl marker, k2, ssk; rep from * once. 196 (224, 252) sts rem. Work 10 rnds even. Inc 1 st on each side of markers on next and every foll 8th rnd 6 times as foll: *Work to 2 sts

times as foll: *Work to 2 sts before marker, M1R, k2, sl marker, k2, M1L; rep from * once. 224 (252, 280) sts. Work should measure about 13.5" [34 cm] from cast on. Divide front and back as follows: Knit to 11 (12, 14) sts before marker, BO 22 (24, 28) sts, k until there are 24 (27, 30) sts on right hand needle (after bind off), BO 42 (48, 52) sts for front neck, k to 11 (12, 14) sts before marker, BO 22 (24, 28) sts. Break yarn. Place rem 90 (102, 112) sts on holder for back. Upper Front With RS facing, rejoin yarn to left front. Dec 1 st at each end of every RS row 7 times. 10 (13, 16) sts. Work even until armhole measures 8.5" [21 cm]. Place sts on holder. Repeat for right front. Upper Back With RS facing, rejoin yarn. Dec 1 st at each end of every RS row 7 times. 76 (88, 98) sts. Work even until armhole measures 6.5" [16.5 cm]. Next row: Work 10 (13, 16) sts, BO center 56 (62, 66) sts, work to end. Leave sts on needle. Finishing Join shoulders using 3-needle bind off. Pick up sts (about 3 sts per 4 rows) around neck and armholes and work edging of your choice. Vest shown features 5 rnds of k1, p1 rib. Bind off loosely. Weave in ends. Block if desired.

Designer Alexandra was cold (as always) and decided to knit a vest, rather than buy one. Winter turned to spring and much to her relief, the vest works as a tank, too! Alexandra doesn't have a blog, but might be tempted into building a website. Contact her here.
