Samudra Manthana (Churning of ocean)

-Arun Kumar Upadhyay, 9437034172, arunupadhyay30@yahoo.in

1. Introduction-Firstly, meaning and types of ocean at different levels are explained-cosmic,
physical and internal. What is its churning and why it is needed? Its good & bad effects are
discussed. Then the great samudra-mathana in time of Asura king Bali is discussed with its
time, place, purpose & results.
2. Meaning of samudra-Uniform matter is water, its spread in space is samudra (ocean).
Original source of universe is called Rasa as it is homogenous, isotropic and same all the time.
These three qualities of primordial space or matter is called Perfect Cosmological Principle
(PCP) which is basis of all cosmology theories in modern physics.
/ ()/
Creation by Brahma (God) has been called su-kta (= good work). In, Bible, Old Testament
Genesis-1, it had been translated that after each stage of creation, God was telling that it was
very good, giving certificate to Himself.
Meaning of su-kta is explained that created, source matter and creator-all are the one Brahma (
//)
This unity of creation is called good work like in Aitareya Upaniad which has been copied in
Bible- - -
( //)
When our mind is united solely with action-called Yoga (unity, addition), that is called good work
or efficiency in action- - (/)
Uniform matter is water, its spread is ocean and initial form is ditya (di = beginning). Compact
form is earth (Bh) and intermediate or mixed for is Varha which has 2 meanings-(1) boar
which is animal of land & water, (2) cloud-mixture of air & water.
These are at 3 levels called 3 Dhmas-(1) Highest or biggest is Uttama (best) which is collection
of 100 billion galaxies in visible universe. Its source matter is salila = rasa with waves, that was
first ditya called Aryam. The varying density regions were Yaja-varha and each dense
region developed into a galaxy which is biggest earth.
(2) Middle (madhyama) level is our galaxy which has about 100 billion stars. Originals spread
matter is second ditya called Varua and its matter is Ap. Waves in that made it Ambhas.
Denser parts were like large drops (Drapsa) of cloud which developed into stars. Gravitational
field of each star (like our sun) is second Bhmi or earth.

(3) Lower level (Avama) is our solar system whose ditya was Mitra, its water is Mara.
Formative stage was veta-varha (= white, radiation, called Pradyumna stage in Pchartra). Its compact parts are planets, whose densest part is our earth-smallest Bh.
(4) Parama dhma is spread of uniform Rasa all over which still exists at finest level.

( )//
These dhma have a compact base called earth or mother and sky around them called father.
Thus, there are 3 mothers and 3 fathers, or 3 earths (bhmi) and 3 skies (dyu).

( )//

( //)
The 3 earths have been defined as the zone lighted by rays of sun and moon(1) Earth planet is lighted by both sun and moon. It has oceans, rivers, mountains all.
(2) Earth of solar system is exclusive zone lighted by sun. Its planetary system has been called
wheel shaped earth of 100 crore yojanas (1 yojana = 1000 parts of earths equatorial diameter)up to orbit of Neptune. Its half part up to Uranus is Loka (bright) and outer part is Aloka (darker)
part (Bhgavata pura, skandha 5). The regions formed by apparent rotation of planets of

Loka part has been called Dvpa (continents) and intervening zones as oceans with same
names as on earth planet.
(3) The last limit of suns rays where it is seen as a point is the third and biggest earth called

Parameh maala (largest sphere). As an egg of the Brahma, it is Brahma. As last reach
of sun rays (Srya siddhnta 12/82), it is called Parama-pada (extreme step) of Viu (Sun).
The central rotating disc is called a river (ka-gang).
Next verse of Viu pura tells that starting from each earth, its sky has same diameter or
circumference, which is of earth planet (starting from man). Thus, man, earth planet, planet of
solar system (in gravitational field of sun) and galaxy-all are successively 107 times bigger.

Radiation within exclusive zone of a star is Rudana (crying) and so, the solar system is called

Rodas. Radiation of inter-stellar space is Krandana (silent weeping). Zone of galaxy is, thus,
Krandas . Sanyat (stable) is space of universe.

(c) Water of solar system is called Mara (dying or decaying) as creation within it is relatively
short lived. Its source is called Marchi (Sun).

2. Manthana in space-New creation is by churning of available material. The motion is called air.
Water with motion is creator like mother, so this air is called Mtariv = air ( /)
( ///)

( //)

( , )
Process of churning is called Rsa (mixing of uniform Rasa) in space. It starts with creation of
galaxy in its field called Krma as it does work. This is now seen as neutrino corona of galaxy,
about 10 times bigger that galaxy. Being region of rays (Go), it is called Goloka in
Brahmavaivartta pura. This is Garbha (womb) in great expanse of salila in which the great
child called galaxy is born.

Its size is measured in akvar chhanda (14x4 = 56 letters), i.e. 1053 times earth size. Now, it is
seen as neutrino corona of our galaxy which is about 10 times bigger than the galaxy.

In that Krma, the great earth, called galaxy is rotating
( , )
Here, Pthv = earth planet, Vipula Pthv = Solar system, Vipula-tara Pthv = galaxy.
Yaja (creation) on earth is by mutual rotation of earths axis (axis of equator circle = viuvavtta) and its orbit (Ecliptic, Krnti-vtta). Axis rotates around north end of axis of ecliptic, called
Nka in a conical motion called Precession motion (Ayana-gati). This is in 26,000 years, called
manvantara in Brahma pura of 71 yugas, each of about 360 years.
)//)-
)//)-

Annual motion on the 2 inclined circles, caused season cycle in year, in which all our creation
activities are done, so Samvatsara (tropical year) is called Yaja at several places.

There are 2 intersection points of ecliptic and equator. At one point, 2 branches emerge like a
scissors, so it is called Kttik (Scissors). At other end, where 2 branches join again is called
Vikh (= 2 branches). The 2 motions in 1 year and in 26,000 years are yajas which start
from Kttik and end with Vikh like circle of moon from Dara (new moon, just visible) to
Prim (full moon) and back. Thus, all yaja cycles are called Dara-pramsa.
....
,
,
,
,
( //)
= Devas fulfil desires, rise from Indrgn (Kttik) to Vikh. Then they become full and it is
called paurms. Then the movement reverses. This movement is around nka (top point of
ecliptic sphere) Nutation is change in angle of inclination in earth axis from 22.5 to 24.50 in cycle
of 41,000 years.
Cycles of year and month also are Rsa, caused by revolution of earth and moon. Daily yajas
are in cycle of earth rotation.
4. Oceans on earth-Normally, Puras tell about 7 Dvpa (continent) surrounded by 7 oceans.
Oceans & continents on earth surface are of irregular shape. But the area covered by planets
around earth are circular and make continents in shape of circle or circular rings. The
intermediate spaces are called oceans.

Note-1.* Ceres is the main body in the asteroid belt between mars and Jupiter. Its orbit is
calculated for figures of 2000 AD.
2. Jamb-Dvpa of 50,000 yojana radius is extent of gravitational field of earth in which an object
will be in orbit. Its axis in direction of earth rotation in Meru of 1,00,000 yojanas.
3. Dadhi-samdra is solid planet zone. Its mean circle is orbit of earth-largest solid planet.
4 Oceans-Corresponding to 4 Dhmas & their 4 oceans, there are 4 oceans on earth also.
These are not oceans of water only which separate continents. These are different zones of
production. Earth as producer of required goods is called Gau (cow) and its 4 zones of
production are like 4 udders of cow which give milk ( /)
) //(
) ///(
) ///(
() () (
///)
The oceans of earth as Cow are-(1) Vyu-maala (atmosphere)-this gives rains, oxygen etc.
for plants, life, (2) Jva-maala (Biosphere)-animals of land, air, sea-animal products like milk,
their labors. (3) Sthala-maala (outer crust of earth)-This contains minerals. (4) Jala-maala(Hydrosphere)-water of oceans.
Manthana (churning) of these are indicated in various places- In time of great king Pthu, son of
Vena, earth was milked for food, minerals etc. Hills were made plain by bow = bow shaped plain
stairs were made on hills for farming. With Svyambhuva Manu as calf i.e. in his tradition,
mining was restarted// -

For share of mineral wealth, widespread wars started among Devas and Asuras like the present
era wars by Britain, US to loot minerals and other wealth of Bhrata and petrol of west Asia.
This was temporarily resolved by Krma incarnation of Viu, on whose suggestion, Asuras
agreed to cooperate in mining. Land from Bilaspur in Chattisgarh to Ghatshila Jharkhand in
Krma shape was one such region. Asuras were expert in deep mining, so they went to hot
depths called mouth of Vsuki who supervised the project. A long narrow mountain chain goes
north from this region in shape of churning rod and Vsuki-ntha is at north tip of that. Asuras
came from north-east part of Ezypt and from same part Ionians went to Greece as per
Herodotus. This was in retaliation of killing of king Bhu by Dyonisus in 6777 BC (date as per
Indika of Megasthenese). So, the titles of tribals in the mining region is same as names of
minerals in present Greek1. Aurum-Oram (Metallurgy of gold), 2. Soren (Svara)-Gold ornaments,
3. Gold mining is like collection of sugar particles from sand by ants. So, miners are called
Kandulana-called gold-digging ants of India by Herodotus & Megasthenes,
4. Chalcopyrite (copper ore)-Khalko,
5. Topaz (Aluminium compound)-Toppo (Trapu),
6. Murrum- Munda (Mura was king of Morocco killed by Ka, he had iron fencing).
7. Kiosk (shape of blast furnace)-Kisku (unit of heat, mass-Arthastra of Kauilya),
8. Stanic (Tin)-Sinku, 9. Hygragrium (mercury)-Hembram,
10. Kerketta-Karkaaka is compass-he marks mineral location on map,
11. Minz (Mna = fish)-Finding direction by bisecting shadow with fish shaped common part of 2
circles, Shadow end of tower moves in shape of Kutupa = thistle tube (Kuppi used for pouring
oil). 2 end points bisected by Mna give north direction. So, it is called Kutub-minar. Magnetic
compass used for same purpose is Kutub-numa.
12. Hansada-separation of ore from soil by washing.
13. Ekka or Kacchhapa (Tortoise)-Mine diggers, building hard roof to support cave.
Minerals are trapped in concave shaped hard rocks called Krma-pha (back of tortoise).
Other hard surface is called gaja- pha (Elephant back). 8 Dig-gaja are 8 continental rocks.
Drilling equipment is churner, path of entry & extraction are Vsuki-nga.

Vamana & Krma incarnation, and defeat of Asuras by Krttikeya-all were in time of king Bali,
who is famous as one of the 4 longest living persons. In time of Krttikeya, direction of north
pole shifted from Abhijit Nakatra, which has been called fall of Abhijit in Mahbhrata, Vana
parva (230/8-10). This started around 16,400 BC. Then Krttikeya started year with entry of sun
in Dhanih, which was from Abhijit till then. That was start of Var (rains), so year was called
Vara. This was in 15,800 BC. That is the period of Samudra-manthana. Just before that, Deva
(ditya) year of Aditi started it sun in Punarvasu ruled by Aditi (uttaryaa with Aditi in 16,800
BC). Old year ended when sun entered Punarvasu and then new year started ) //(. If 12 lunar months were not complete till that, then
extra month was added. That continues as ratha-ytr which is held (main or return) when sun
is in Punarvasu
5. Internal manthana-Krma is central nerve along backbone which keeps the body steady ) /(
Some tell that it is just below throat, that is kaha-kpa in previous stra. In any case, body is
made steady and around the center of Krma, breath and consciousness flows as part of Kriyyoga.
