Dear Susan,
I am very happy to be your new pen-friend. As you know I’m fourteen
years old like you. I’ve got blue eyes and short, brown hair. My father is
a lawyer and my mother is a nurse.
I attend a private secondary school, called John Ford High School.
It’s a day school for boys and girls. My favourite subject is History. I
think it’s fascinating to know about our ancestors.
I live here in Miami, with my parents, my sister Susan and my brother
Steve. Susan is sixteen and Steve is eighteen. Susan and I are at the same
school, but Steve is at Harvard University in Massachusetts, which is
over 2,000 km to the north of Miami, and so he just comes home for
vacations and for the weekend once or twice a month. He wants to be a
lawyer like my father.
I like living here in Miami because we usually have sunny weather
and we are near the beach. Miami is in the south, in the state of Florida.
We have lots of tourists coming to visit Disney World, which is in
Orlando. I love going to the beach, playing basketball and surfing.
My routine is the usual. I always get up early. I always have lunch at
school and I come back home at 5 p.m. In the evening I always go to the

Oh, I also love music and I have a pet dog, named Biggy, because he’s

Dear Melanie,
I’m writing to tell you about my last Carnival holidays. I usu-
ally stay at home at Carnival, because this time of the year holi-
days are very short, but this year my holidays were really different
and super!
We travelled with some friends to Andorra, in the Pyrenees and
we had a good time together. The weather was sunny, but the
mountains were covered with snow. It was fantastic. We stayed in a
bungalow. It was quite big and comfortable. There were three bed-
rooms, a large sitting-room and a fireplace.
During the day we tried skiing, we walked in the snow, we pre-
pared and cooked delicious meals. The nights were the best.
Sometimes we danced at the disco or we stayed at home by the fire-
place playing cards or just talking. We stayed there for a week.
