Principal’s Message

, 2013

Congratulations, Scientists! The Ventana Vista Science Fair was a huge success! We had 41 students perform 32 individual projects, and 7 classes submitted projects as well. Fourth and fifth grade , 2013 scientists were invited to present their projects, orally, to a panel of judges, giving them an excellent opportunity to practice their public speaking skills. See the list of awards given later in this newsletter. Ten projects will advance to the Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Fair (SARSEF)! A tremendous THANK YOU to , Science Fair Chair, Ingrid Klestadt and to the FFO for their support of this event. Looking Ahead to Next Year Registration: It’s hard to believe, but it is already the time of year when we begin planning for NEXT school year! Ventana Vista Resident families should have received pre-printed , 2012 registration materials in the mail. They are due back to the school by next Friday, February 14. Having an accurate enrollment projection is important for our staffing and offering of teacher contracts. Please ensure that you return your paperwork on time! Open Enrollment families have until the end of February to reapply (on the district website: Notification of acceptance is expected by the beginning of April. Once these are received in the mail, registration forms must be returned to the school office in order to complete enrollment.

FYI: We know that families have a lot of options in when it comes to educating children. CFSD provides an exceptional PreK-12 educational experience. All 4th grade families were recently invited to attend an informational evening about our fabulous 5th grade program and about our middle school, Esperero Canyon (ECMS). Our 5th grade ‘XZXC0000 teachers, joined me, as well as ECMS principal, Mary Setliff, and CFSD World Languages Coordinator, Sheryl Castro, for a preview of what lay ahead for our students. 09 For those who couldn’t make it, our message was that we are a comprehensive system, dedicated to educating the whole child. We highlighted the following areas at Ventana Vista, ECMS, and Catalina Foothills High School: our rigorous, articulated APRIL 24, 2009 curriculum; art, music, and physical education; world languages; community; technology; the people; and our beautiful facilities. Immersion families learned of the plans that are in the works for our Spanish Immersion students when they enter 6th grade at ECMS. Students will enjoy a series of specially , 2008 designed courses that will allow them to use Spanish as a tool to learn more content , and/or to enhance problem-solving skills, related to local, state, and/or international issues. They will also continue to develop their Spanish literacy skills through the use of Spanish language literature and informational text. We believe that CFSD is THE PLACE TO BE! If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s experience here, please feel free to contact me. Kim Boling, Principal 520-209-8000
