Lenten Project Opportunity for El Salvador Mission Groups!

This opportunity is for any Diocesan parish already participating in supporting the Mission Team in El Salvador.

PURPOSE: To help support Fr. Mike Stallas brand new K 12 school academy which will be completed by this March, 2014 - ENROLLMENT IS COMPLETE!

New Academy on church grounds: San Pedro the Apostle Church

WHAT: Learning Tree Parish Project Parishes are asked to find a small tree with only branches and then plant the sparse tree in a planter (see below). It can be spray painted gold or left alone, and then place the tree somewhere noticeable in the church.

How to participate: Parishioners can buy 3 different size leaves (small, medium and large) for the following denominations: $50, $100, or $250. Parishes with schools can also participate by making the donations much smaller. I have attached an example of a template for the leaves below. You can blow up the image to make larger sized leaves. They can be pre-cut out of construction paper using any color that you want (the more colorful, the more beautiful!). When a leaf is purchased, the donor will receive two of the same size leaves. They will add their family name or name of loved one on both leaves. One, they will place in an envelope along the donation check. The other will be hung on their parish tree. To hang the leaf on the parish tree, punch a small hole at the base of the leaf. Have pre-cut pieces of yarn at approximately 8 10 in length to put thru the hole of the leaf and then hung it on the parish tree. At the end of Lent, all of the leaves that were collected in envelopes will be sent to Fr. Mike Stalla in El Salvador to have them painted on the academy tree in Teotepeque, El Salvador.

Your Connection to El Salvador: In addition to the leaf that is hung on your parish tree a huge tree will be painted on the academy wall in El Salvador. A leaf of proportionate size will be painted on the academy tree with the same message as on the construction paper leaf that is hung on your parish tree. A representative from your parishs mission team will collect the donation money and the family leaves. At the end of Lent, all of the leaves that were collected will sent to Fr. Mike Stalla in El Salvador to have them painted on the academy tree and the checks will be deposited and sent to: The Propagation of the Faith Attn: Academy Project Diocese of Cleveland - 1404 East 9th Street, Cleveland, OH 44114 Example of a colorful tree with painted leaves on academy wall: For more information on the Lenten El Salvador Mission project, please contact Joyce Colovas at: 440-552-9008 or colovasj@gmail.com
