WITH AN IMPACT
Yoga and I did not always have an easy journey together! I’ve always been active; when I was a kid, my winters were dominated by skiing, and my summers were volleyball frenzies, but I really hit my stride with tennis. In college my coach introduced me to Bikram yoga and I was like a cat touching water. Doing the same poses every time was boring for someone like me, and I wasn’t growing or seeing the benefits of the exercise at all in my personal fitness...

Seoul, and when I came back to the US, I started to incorporate more gym work into my fitness regimen; I found that with yoga as my center, my body was capable of so much more than I thought possible. It also allowed me to understand what limitations I did have. Yoga is really about caring for your body, and seeking balance between pushing and nurturing. It was only after I had found my niche in yoga, resistance, and interval training that I was able to reach what could be called my current “pinnacle of fitness.” Yoga brought me so much skill, growth, and joy; and I knew that I could share that with other athletes. I was looking for the perfect place to make this a reality, and when I found CrossFit Impact, I knew that I had found my match. I’m so excited to start showing you what yoga can do for your body. I focus a lot on yoga as my center, and CrossFit takes my practice to new heights. Yoga can do the same for your CrossFit workout - you don’t have to be as in love with yoga as I am! It’s all about the results you want to see. Now, I’m not perfect, and I know that there’s always more room for me to grow! You and I are on the same track when it comes to that. With fitness, and yoga in particular, you’re always improving and I don’t think I’ll really feel like I’ve hit true mastery until much later (give it a decade or two). I know it’s tempting to think that our teachers have everything down, but it’s a learning experience for all of us, and I can’t wait to share with my students the new things I’m taught as our bodies surpass our goals in the gym. I’m on a mission to make the world a happier and healthier place, one session at a time!

And then I went to Seoul, South Korea. I was there to teach English as a second language, and ended up becoming a student myself! I injured my knee pretty severely and needed something that would help me to rehabilitate as well as maintain the rest of my body. I found a teacher in Seoul who introduced me to the much wider world of yoga that my limited experience with Bikram had hidden. It was amazing and I fell head over heels in love. I tried every form I could, and found my sweet spot in Hatha Vinyasa yoga. Hatha Vinyasa woke me up to the reality that there are almost unlimited ways that our bodies can move. I would never get bored, and it seemed like there were infinite combinations of poses, sequences, and variations. So I set about getting my certification in South Korea and decided to keep teaching the body as well as the mind. I must admit, it felt like I had reached a plateau by the end of my two years in

My name is Katie, and I have always been into sports and athletics. From volleyball, gymnastics, dance, and cross-country to teaching as a certified Group Ex instructor, I have done it all. I was getting bored with everything I was doing and was looking for a workout that would challenge me and be different. I have some friends who are crazy about CrossFit and kept telling me to try it. That’s when I came to CFI in October of 2013. I was intimidated at first, but within 20 minutes of my first workout I felt comfortable because everyone was so welcoming and Carlos made me feel at home. I was hooked right away, and I love how it’s always changing—I never get bored. What sold me right away about Crossfit is that within six weeks I had already dropped a pants size—it was so motivating to see that! I am a huge advocate for CFI and I love it here!

hooked ever since! Although I don’t see my old trainer anymore, she has been replaced by the best coach ever—Carlos! My favorite WOD is Fran. No, I’m not crazy! It was my first WOD ever and it will forever hold a place in my heart. Since starting Crossfit I have come so far physically. I’m petite, which used to frustrate me when I began Crossfit because I couldn’t lift as much weight as a lot of the other women athletes. I’ve come to accept the fact that I won’t be able to lift the same weight as others, but I look at it a little differently now. I have recently gotten to the point in some of the Olympic lifts where I can lift more than my body weight, and I’m extremely proud of all the hard work and progress I’ve made to get to that point in my workouts.

Live Community Chorus is filling the night with Broadway faves on April 12th.
